iRobot Roomba 694
The Roomba 694 by iRobot is an entry-level robot vacuum that is able to work on bare floors and low-pile carpet. Its combo brush reaches into edges and corners, and it automatically increases suction when it spots carpet. It also excels at cleaning dirt embedded in mid-pile carpet. The IQ has a tiny footprint and a self-emptying function. However, if you want to change the floor levels on the map, or set no-go zones you'll have to manually reset it in order to do so, which is quite trouble.
The IQ app provides advanced mapping and automated features, however it does not have no-go zones. These are only available on iRobot robots. The smart-pathing technology permits for better maneuverability and the high-pile mode of its carpet cleaning mode is efficient however it can be stuck on rug tassels.
During our tests, we discovered that the IQ handled pet hair well. It was able to eliminate the majority of hair on floors that were unfinished, and a fair amount on medium-pile rug. It was less efficient with shag carpets, as it had a hard time reaching dirt and dust that was embedded in the fibers. It did a good job of navigating the legs of chairs and tight spaces as well as the bottom of an wooden IKEA step stool. It was a bit slower on flooring that was not fully covered but it was able to recover speed and performed better than other robots that we evaluated.
The IQ is a better choice for the majority of users than the iRobot Roomba. It has a bigger dust bin, lasts longer on a charge and is more capable of maneuvering itself over obstacles. It has mopping tools that are able to clean up sticky mess. The iRobot, however, feels better constructed, has fewer components that need maintenance or replacement, incurs less ongoing costs, and can even create virtual no go zones with its companion application. It is able to even resume cleaning from where it left off if it is unable to recharge its battery prior to having completed the task. The iRobot can also be controlled with voice commands, which is an enormous benefit for many users.
Eufy 11S
The RoboVac 11S from Eufy isn't the most feature-rich robot vacuum available but it does provide great cleaning power for a low price. It's designed for those who don't need a complicated mapping system or app to control the device. The robot is capable of running for more than an hour and comes with the remote, a cleaning tool, AC power adapter, charging base and extra filters.
The 11S is slim and sleek with a tempered glass upper deck that covers plastic and is made to appear like brushed aluminum. It's a nice change from the utilitarian and industrial designs of Roomba, Samsung and Neato.
The eufy11S performed well in our tests to remove larger particles and fine dust from hard flooring. However, it was unable to give high and medium pile carpets an effective deep clean. It is also prone to smack into furniture and people in its path however, it's able detect obstacles with sensors. When it encounters them, it ceases to move and emits a loud beep so you can manually guide it around the obstacle and then get back to work.
