For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you're trying to sleep.

It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty those areas are.
For larger homes it's worth looking for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home by using the app or voice controls. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that can't be used as an emptying bin.
