How To Explain Item Upgrader To A 5-Year-Old

World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrade of an item can be used to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all its upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be modified to upgrade an item.

The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and can be found on all item tooltips. It can also be used to determine a gating condition when waiting to queue for dungeons and raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). The average level of an item can be found in the character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell gear, players can compare the level of an item. It's an indicator of the damage and quality. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the item's level.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are various theories about how the item level calculation is made. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is typically very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

This is not the only factor that influences the value of an item. The level of the area where the item dropped can also change its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste or crit score. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods on weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by the player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats of the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times, at higher costs.

Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all sizes and shapes. Affixes can be used to give the item additional damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an exclusive name to the item.

All affixes can be being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it's a unique item or the result of a God roll from a raid boss.

This is another thing that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade item s. It merely gives the player a possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves and is therefore more valuable in early game runs than in later ones, because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over the raw damage gain.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck, or to increase an item's existing Luck up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it does not work.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..

The success of an item upgrades is also influenced by the luck of the item. All items have a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5%.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects could be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
