How To Edit Minecraft Server Files

How To Edit Minecraft Server Files

The web based FTP client enables you to manage your Minecraft server files with relative ease from your panel. To access your Minecraft server files using the web-based client, go to FTP File Access and log in using your panel password. After authentication, you will be taken directly to your home directory.

Navigating Server Files

Navigating through your server's files is a lot like the way you navigate on your desktop. The directory structure is in the middle. We can navigate to, select, and modify our files here. Click the respective folder to access and view its contents. To edit the file, click Edit. To download the file simply click the name.

There are options to manage the files you've selected. Once you have the selected items checked , you can assign specific actions to them, such as:

Move Files - Move selected files to another directory on your server. Select Delete - Permanently remove selected files.

Copy - Create copies of the selected files.

Rename - Rename specific files

Download - Download selected files in an archive format.

Zip - Archive selected files and save onto the server.

Unzip and extract the contents of an archive into the directory that you are currently in.

Edit Text Editor - Use an editor for text to edit the file.

Creating New Folder and Files

You can create new files and folders directly from the panel by using the New Dir, New File or Upload option located on the left side menu.

New Dir - Create a new directory (or folder)

New File Create new plain text files.

Upload - Upload a set of files or an archive.

You can only upload single files via the Upload option. You are not able to upload entire folders. If you wish to upload a whole folder then you will need to upload it as an archive file, and then utilize the unzip option to extract its contents onto the server.

Limitations

While the web-based FTP client is easy and quick for light uploads and edits to servers, it does have its limitations. The panel's web page functions as an intermediary for file exchange by allowing you to upload new files and make changes to existing server files. What this means is that you are restricted in the amount of you can upload in one session. This limit is set at 50mb. Any upload or file commit that is greater than this will need to be done with an alternative FTP client such as Filezilla. MINECRAFTSERVERS -party clients like Filezilla do not have a limit on file size, as they directly connect to your server's files, not the web-based FTP client.
