Upgrades to items allow players to upgrade their weapons and gear with new affixes that boost its stats base or adding additional perks. To upgrade items, players must have the item in their inventory, and also access the kiln.
Typically objects with weak bases (like rings) can be upgraded to a more powerful base while items with strong bases such as Eth titans don't change in their stats following being upgraded.
Upgrade components
Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armors trinkets, weapons and gathering tools. They can be used as an attribute bonus or an additional benefit, while the equipment is being used. They can be bought from vendors, or found in loot, thrown away by enemies or received as a reward from missions or chests. Some upgrades can have additional cosmetic effects. Most upgrades require the equipment to be above a certain level before they can be upgraded.
In order to upgrade a weapon or piece of armor, the player has to select it and then click the Upgrade button located in the toolbar. The preview will appear on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected upgrade statistics will be as well as the required component or material needed to complete the upgrade.
There are three types that are universal upgrades (which include gems) Prefix upgrades and suffix upgrade components. Universal upgrades, like gems, can be used on any kind of equipment. They offer a lower bonus than upgrade components that are subject to a type restriction. Infusions, which can only be placed in ascended gear and legendary equipment, are the same as jewels but have higher bonuses and cannot be used in any other kind of equipment. Suffix upgrades can be added to gathering tools. They add the suffix at the end of item names. For example, adding a Glyph would make a Staff wrapping of Minor Vigor into a Canthan staff wrapping of Minor Vigor.
If the player upgrades their gathering tool, and replaces the glyphs with a different one the previous one will be returned to their inventory. However, replacing any other upgrade component can destroy it, with the exception of the inscriptions that can be swapped.
Leveling
Path of Exile's upgrade system is different from previous versions in several important ways. Gear is now categorised in tracks, and each item is able to be upgraded as many times before it's "leveled out." The upgrade cost is increased with each level, but the required materials aren't as high. This lets players focus their efforts on a couple of important items to maximize their impact instead of spreading upgrade costs across several items.
When an item is leveled out, it will be able to receive an upgrade set of components, and a boost in the chance that the upgrade will succeed. This bonus is called the Artisan’s Energy and it resets at 0 if the upgrade fails or increases when the upgrade succeeds.
Once a piece is upgraded to its maximum level it can be eligible to receive affixes that will increase its features. The number of affixes available will depend on the item's type. For instance an uncommon or exclusive weapon with a base that is standard will only have two affixes. A legend armor will have eight affixes.
Each upgrade step will require the use of a certain amount of Flightstones and crests, depending on the item's current level and the item slot it's in. Weapons will typically require more Flightstones than other equipment.
If an item fails to reach its max level, the NPC will give players the option to transfer it to a different person and then re-infuse the item with another set of upgrades. This process takes up to two hours and costs the same amount of materials, though it will have lower chances of success.
Engineers employ a level to measure the height of the building with an established location, such as a benchmark. This method is known as a "level loop." This involves taking readings using the level, backsighting rod and then turning the level to take the foresighting rod reading. This method guarantees that the buildings are constructed with the highest level of accuracy and security.
Rerolling
Rerolling is the process of changing the upgrade components of an item. It is a vital aspect of the game and can dramatically increase the strength of an item, damage, or other characteristics. This can be done via the item menu or pressing the Reroll button of an upgraded item. Rerolling can be costly and should only be done in the rarest of circumstances.
Reroll tokens are obtained by recycling upgraded items. These tokens can be used to upgrade the original item, or to upgrade another item of the same type. Recyclable items have an indicator of level that indicates how much of the upgrade gauge is filled. The cost and rarity of upgrading an item determines the level of filling.
In the past, certain upgrade items had priority affixes that made them easier to roll for than other. This meant that you could get the stats that mattered most to your build more often than other. This included stats such as the armor's total armour, thorns and the control impaired duration stats or the weapons' bonus attack speed and crit strike chance.
This changed with the recent patch. Priority affixes were removed, and all upgrades have the same chance of rolling for each statistic. This can be good or bad, depending on what you're looking to get from your equipment.
Each upgraded item may be equipped with a special bonus that boosts the item's power by a set percentage or flat value. These bonuses are added to standard affixes. The more you upgrade your product, the better your chance of obtaining a unique bonus.
The game also has a number sets that grant an extra bonus when three or four upgraded items from the set are placed on an item. item upgrades is a great method to give an individual character more power without spending a lot of money.
Many players have the habit of rerolling their weapons and gear particularly in the beginning stages. Rerolling can provide a much faster route to becoming a strong character and allows them to climb higher levels and advance in the game much more quickly.
Sets
