How Teflon Can Serve As an Eco-Friendly Foodstuff?

One of the most important kitchen appliances is the non-stick pan. This is because it can keep foods from burning easily and you do not have to worry about it getting burnt even if the food is prepared at a really high temperature. Some people tend to disregard this product because they think that using it in their kitchen will take up a lot of space and it is not very practical. However, having the best nonstick pan is not really a matter of practicality but of preference. Actually, there are a lot of advantages of having a good quality non-stick pan.

Better quality non stick pans are usually made of Porcelain or Ceramic and do not require Teflon coatings, they are therefore resistant to scratching, they last much longer than other non stick pans and they maintain their non-stick properties even heat distribution. There are even some branded pans that are scratch resistant up to a point. However, even high quality pans with Teflon coated should be placed on a cooling rack if using them in the oven. Other than this, there are also some non stick pans made from ceramic but they are not as reliable or durable as the pans without Teflon coatings.

So what makes a non-stick pan more safe and reliable? First of all, it should have a superior non-stick coating over other materials. The material used should be able to withstand constant heat and pressure even under high temperatures. It must also have excellent chemical resistance and excellent thermal conductivity. A perfect and safe material is made from titanium and copper.

The next aspect that makes Teflon non-stick cookware safer than ordinary pans is its superior heat distribution. Ceramic cooking pans have poor heat distribution and hence they don't adhere properly to the food. On the other hand, aluminum alloy pans have excellent heat distribution and hence they bake faster and don't burn. This is one of the reasons why people prefer aluminum cookware over clay and cast iron pans.

Another important feature that makes Teflon better than ordinary frying pans is that the material doesn't promote bacterial growth. The material doesn't emit toxic chemicals which can be harmful for the health of humans and animals. These harmful chemicals are released during frying. However, Teflon does not emit any such harmful gases. The material thus ensures safety both for humans and animals.

However, Teflon doesn't hold a candle to cadmium. Cadmium, once ingested, develops into very dangerous health problems like cancer in a short period of time. The harmful chemicals developed during the frying process remain stuck to the surface of the pan. The only way to remove these toxic particles is to clean the pan with a special chemical cleanser. So even though Teflon and cadmium perform similar functions, Teflon has several advantages.

When heated, Teflon pans conduct less heat energy and so don't warm up as quickly as other pans do. However, even when heated up to 350 degree, neither the Teflon nor the cadmium pan lets out any toxic materials. This is mainly because of the absence of p foa and ptfe compounds.

A Teflon or an aluminum cookware with a p foa and Ptfe makes your food less safe to eat. It is therefore advisable to buy only the best nonstick pan with an aluminum or Teflon shell. These are both safe for consumption and do not leave any residues on your dishes. The only way to ensure that you won't consume toxic materials is to avoid heating up your ceramic pan.
