These days, it seems like Kanye West is wrapped up in a new scandal every day. But one thing that hasn't changed for the iconic rapper is his height.
Kanye West sent shockwaves across social media in the summer of 2020 when he declared he was running to become the President of the United States, facing off against candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump. This prompted some to ask the question: would he be tall enough to look over the well-being of Lady Liberty had he been elected?
The tallest US President in American history - Abraham Lincoln - stood at a towering 6'4", while the shortest - James Madison - sat at 5'4". Where would Kanye West have ranked if he took a seat in office? And for that matter, how do other rappers and their own heights rank by comparison? Some of them might surprise you.
Updated on March 3, 2022: Kanye West has had a very eventful 2022 . It seems like he's wrapped up in a new scandal every day. These days, the drama is all about his relationship with his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, as well as his ex-girlfriend Julia Fox and Kim Kardashian's new boyfriend Pete Davidson. He recently posted several inflammatory Instagram posts, only to delete them shortly afterward .
He also made a very strange gesture towards Kim on Valentine's Day and freaked out Pete Davidson with some uncomfortable threats on his newest song. For what it's worth, Davidson is significantly taller than West. While Pete stands 6'2" tall, Kanye is 5'8". In addition, Julia Fox is 5'7", while Kim Kardashian is just 5'2".
Though he lost in 2020, there's always next time for Kanye. In the event that Kanye West does somehow manage to take up a seat in the Oval Office one day, we know that he is at least tall enough to look over his desk. While 5'8" is not incredibly tall, and he's still technically shorter than the average American man ( FYI, average height for an adult male in America is 5'9 ), he is still taller than the shortest US President.
Suddenly, for all of the rap songs he's made showcasing his hubris and cockiness, it makes sense now why Kanye's never rapped about being tall.
Although Jay-Z and Kanye West have not gotten along for a really long time due to some personal issues and differing political views, Jay-Z was always someone who the younger Kanye looked up to. Literally, because Jay is much taller than Ye.
The founder of GOOD Music looked up to the founder of Roc-A-Fella not only as a mentor and friend, but also as a bigger 6'2" man standing over a 5'8" man. Fun fact: Jay's wife Beyoncé is shorter than her husband at 5'7", but only once inch shorter than Kanye.
On the song "Mercy," which also featured Kanye West, 2 Chainz bragged about having "money tall like [Michael] Jordan." Funny enough, it turns out that 2 Chainz himself is, in fact, as tall as Michael Jordan. Well, almost as tall.
Michael Jordan has a hair over 2 Chainz - which, for a bald man, is ironic - at 6'6", but 6'5" is still an impressive height. But the question remains: who has the taller money? Judging by his over billion-dollar net worth, Jordan wins that race by a mile.
Future might be the most controversial rapper on this list. If fans are not dissecting the lyrical content of his songs where he divulges what kind of ... let's call them "recreational activities" he likes to do in his spare time, he's apparently having affairs with Scottie Pippen's wife .
One has to wonder if much of the arrogance expressed in his songs has anything to do with the arrogance of looking over everyone he meets at 6'2". Some might argue that tall people are naturally cocky, as are rappers. A cocky, tall rapper is just asking for trouble.
When he came into the rap world as a heavyset man, Rick Ross openly rapped about his weight and took pride into being a (literally) bigger rapper. Now that he's lost a significant amount of weight (shout-out to all the pears, as Mr.Ross would put it), maybe he can start rapping about his height.
5'11" is not a bad height to brag about. Ross can shed his weight all he wants, but he'll never lose the inches off his height and that is something to be proud of.
Drake has been rapping ever since 2001 and is he now, arguably, the most successful rapper of his - or any - generation. As of 2021, he had just as many hits on the Billboard 200 as Madonna, more than any other rapper in history. As one of the most streamed artists in the world, Drake has accumulated a nice net worth of $150 million.
As he stands high and mighty over the rest of his peers in the rap game, he stands over most of them in person as well since he's 6'0".
When Drake had first started scribbling raps into his rhyme book, 50 Cent was dominating the early 2000s and reigning supreme over the rap world. Whether he told menacing tales of the streets like "Many Men (Wish Death)," love ballads like "21 Questions," or club records like "In Da Club," 50 Cent was topping the charts in ways no other rapper had before him.
Like Drake, 50 is also 6'0". There must be something about that height that turns rappers immediately into future GOATs.
Speaking of GOATs in rap, Eminem shares Kanye West's height of 5'8". Both have, at one point in time, been considered some of the greatest rappers of all time.
Especially tall for the average rapper, it is surprising to think that Machine Gun Kelly never had any rap bars attacking Eminem for his height during their beef . With MGK being 6'4 and Eminem 5'8, Kelly has plenty of material to work with.
Kelly roasted Eminem about everything from his deteriorating rap skills to the fact that his "beard is weird," but nothing about himself being taller than rap's resident GOAT. We'd have to call that a missed opportunity.
Going back one more time to the idea of GOATs in rap, we cannot possibly have that conversation without talking about Lil Wayne, who still gets praise as one of the best rappers of all time, despite being perhaps the shortest rapper to reach the top of the mountain.
At 5'5", Lil Wayne is shorter than the average man and the average rapper. He can hardly even look Kanye West eye to eye in a face-off at 5'5". Hopefully, he doesn't decide to run for president any time soon. The jokes write themselves at 5'5".
