How Long Does Manta Bridge Approval Take?
Manta Bridge approval usually confirms within a few minutes when an ERC-20 deposit needs a new allowance; the deposit then requires a second transaction. Native ETH needs no token approval, and a sufficient existing allowance skips that step. Approval grants spending permission to a contract. It does not move the deposit.
Why Can a Token Deposit Need Two Transactions?
An ERC-20 deposit needs approval because the bridge contract must be allowed to pull tokens from your wallet. The ERC-20 specification maintained through Ethereum Improvement Proposals defines the sequence: your wallet calls approve(spender, amount) on the token contract, then the approved spender can call transferFrom during the deposit. Those calls change different contracts’ state, so a standard wallet presents two transactions.
The spender is the contract address authorized to take the token, and allowance(owner, spender) is the remaining permission recorded by that token contract. For a deposit of 100 USDC, an allowance of 80 USDC is insufficient even if your wallet holds 100 USDC; an allowance of 100 or more can cover it. Check the spender shown in the approval prompt against the contract selected by your bridge to Manta Pacific. An approval for another route or another network does not count.
Wait for the approval transaction to succeed before submitting the deposit. A wallet may let you queue both, but the deposit can revert if it executes before the allowance is available, while still consuming gas. After the deposit succeeds, check your balance on Manta Pacific; an approval receipt alone proves only that permission was granted.
Which Tokens Can I Transfer, and When Can I Skip Approval?
You can transfer native ETH and the ERC-20 assets currently offered for the Ethereum Mainnet–Manta Pacific route. Manta Bridge does not accept every token that happens to share a familiar symbol: support depends on the source token contract and its mapped destination asset. Confirm the contract address and destination representation in the route before sending, especially if the receiving app requires a particular version of a stablecoin.
Native ETH goes with the deposit transaction as its value, so there is no ERC-20 allowance to set. WETH, USDC and other supported ERC-20s use the token path and may need approval. If allowance(owner, spender) already covers your amount, the deposit can proceed directly; a prior approval for a smaller amount only covers the unused remainder.
I would approve the amount I intend to deposit for a one-off transfer. An unlimited allowance can save a later approval and its gas fee, but it leaves permission in place for future tokens held at that address. Some tokens require an existing nonzero allowance to be set to zero before a new nonzero approval; that adds another transaction. A permit signature can remove the separate approval transaction only when both the token and the chosen route support it.
How Much Does a Deposit Cost and How Long Does It Take?
A token deposit costs Ethereum gas for each transaction you send: approval if needed, then deposit. As an illustrative estimate, approval might use roughly 40,000–70,000 gas and an ERC-20 deposit roughly 100,000–250,000 gas, depending on the token and contract path. At, say, 10 gwei, those two transactions together would cost about 0.0014–0.0032 ETH in gas. Read your wallet’s live estimates; gas prices and actual gas used decide the bill.
Approval commonly confirms within minutes once included on Ethereum, and the deposit may appear on Manta Pacific several minutes after its Ethereum transaction confirms. A native ETH deposit generally saves the approval fee and prompt. Fast liquidity routes may replace part of the wait with a quoted provider fee or spread, so compare the amount received and the destination token as well as the clock.
For example, moving 100 USDC with no allowance means budgeting for two Ethereum transactions; moving native ETH means budgeting for one. Once you have checked the asset, allowance and quoted amount received, use Manta Bridge to submit the bridge from Ethereum to Manta for the amount your app needs. Keep enough ETH on Ethereum to pay gas for both transactions if approval is required.
How Do I Withdraw Assets From Manta Pacific to Ethereum?
To withdraw, select the asset on Manta Pacific, initiate the withdrawal there, then complete the Ethereum-side actions shown in withdrawal history. A successful initiation records an exit request; it does not mean the asset has reached Ethereum. Manta Network’s bridge interface separates Deposit and Withdraw because the return path must establish that the exit is valid before releasing the asset on Mainnet.
For a standard rollup exit, expect an Ethereum proof transaction when the withdrawal is ready to prove, followed by a finalization transaction after the applicable waiting period. Manta Network has described a three-day challenge period for its native withdrawal path, while faster finality can change the time available to a qualifying exit. Check the status and estimated completion for your actual withdrawal before relying on a delivery time. You need Manta Pacific ETH for initiation and Ethereum ETH for the later transactions.
An ERC-20 withdrawal does not automatically repeat the deposit’s approval sequence. The need for approval depends on whether the selected route pulls tokens from your wallet or burns a bridged representation through its own contract flow. If the interface asks for approval, verify its token, spender and amount on Manta Pacific; if it asks you to prove or finalize, that is a withdrawal stage, not a new deposit.
I would use the standard exit when I can wait for its displayed completion time and need the mapped asset back on Ethereum. If time matters more, I would compare a quoted faster route by total received amount, liquidity and token contract. For the task in front of you, choose the supported asset and route, check the live allowance and gas prompts, then sign only the transactions that sequence requires.
