The ultimate guide for the well-endowed man
So you hear a lot about big dicks, but what size makes a dick big ? And for that matter, what would an average-sized penis measure? And what's small?
Penis size is something that science has studied extensively, and study after study has come back with an average number for erect penis length somewhere between 5 and 6 inches length. When you pool the data from dozens these studies together, as the folks behind CalcSD did you get a global erect average of 5.5 inches / 14.0cm long.
Surprised? Well, that's the science, and they're not interested in lying to you . If that conflicts with your expectations, you need to remember that men have a tendency to exaggerate their size and that exaggeration rubs off on women too . Science cares about the truth, not feelings.
With our average number set, we can look at the standard deviation (a measure of how much variation there is in the dataset) and extrapolate out just how rare a big penis actually is . Half a standard deviation above and below the median gets us a central "average" range, which covers the middle 40% of dicks: 13.2-15.0 cm / 5.2-5.9 inches.
From there, we can extrapolate out, stepping out by standard deviations to go up and down the range of penis lengths.
But.. let us not forget about girth. If anything, girth is the more impactful of dimensions, versus length. CalcSD's dataset points to the average penis measuring 11.5 cm / 4.5 inches in circumference at its thickest point, which gives us an average range of 10.8-12.1 cm / 4.3-4.8 inches covering the middle 40% of dicks.
Extrapolating out again from that point, we can define the range of girths.
Accurate girth data is especially important for proper condom sizing , as those are sized based on the dick's thickness, not length.
So now you know how your hard-on fits into the grand scheme of penises, but what about when soft? While flaccid measurements vary all over the place all day long , we still know what our "typical" softie is like. But is it normal ? And are you a grower or a shower?
Science has an answer there too: the average flaccid penis measures 9.0 cm / 3.5 inches long. The bell curve on penis size is even narrower on soft measurements, with a central standard deviation covering 60% of flaccid penises for an average range of 3.3-3.8 inches / 8.3-9.7 cm.
Like soft length, science also has an answer for soft girth. It can be a little squishy to measure, but the same principles apply. With thousands of penis measurements to run numbers off of, we can confidently say that the average soft penis has a girth of 9.0 cm / 3.5 inches. There's typically not a lot of variation in flaccid circumference, so the average range of 8.5-9.4 cm / 3.3-3.7 inches covers the middle 60% of men.
Measuring your dick is straightforward , and yet full of complications. In the simplest form, to measure length you should you place a ruler on top of your erect penis, press into the pubic fat until it stops at the bone, and then note the measurement at the end. To measure girth, wrap a soft measuring tape or a strip of paper around the thickest part of your penis.
Measuring your dick seems like it should be a simple thing. But somehow, it’s not. Here’s what you need to know to get the right numbers.
The list is extensive. Hydration, stress, alcohol, temperature, smoking, hormones, blood pressure, posture, underwear, exercise, genetics… but why?
There’s a dissonance between the statistics say and what everybody else says — did scientists make up these numbers to make guys feel better about their dicks?
We’ve all heard tales of some encounter with a truly mammoth dick, but they can’t all be true.

Adolescence is a time for growth spurts and other changes spurred by the onset of puberty . It can be a time of great uncertainty, as some teens will inevitably fall behind others in their development. 1

Among the key sexual maturation changes, the testicles get larger and the scrotum begins to thin and redden. In tandem with these changes is the growth of the penis which can develop at different rates for different people. 2

As sexual awareness increases, concerns about penis size may deepen, particularly if all other signs of puberty (including height, body hair, and changes in voice ) are robust. Knowing what to expect—and what an "average" penis size really means—can help alleviate a lot of the stress. 1

The good news is that penis size is rarely a sign of a medical problem. 3 With that being said, there are few answers about "normal" penis size that will satisfy an emotionally impatient teen.

Between the ages of 10 and 14, when most of the growth spurts occur, teens will often feel the need to "size up" with their peers, believing themselves to fall short if they are anything less than average. Even in kids as young as 11, the visible changes seen in others can quickly turn from a source of curiosity to one of anxiety. 1

To help dispel these fears, parents need to understand and share the facts about normal penis development with their children if and when it becomes an issue.

Generally speaking, genitals develop in somewhat predictable stages. According to experts at Stanford Children's Health, the stages of sexual maturation in people with penises break down roughly as follows: 2

What is important to note is that, unlike wet dreams and acne, there is no specific age by which the genitals will start to grow. It can be difficult to know exactly when puberty will start and how it will develop. 4

For some, it may appear as an almost single event. In others, it may develop in fits and starts right through early high school. While siblings often follow similar growth patterns, there can even be variations among them that defy expectations. 1

Even if a penis appears small by the age of 14, there is still an opportunity for growth. With that being said, many parents will want to schedule an appointment with the family doctor if their child's penis hasn't started to grow after the appearance of body and facial hair. 3 Generally speaking, by the age of 18 to 19, little additional growth can be expected. 4

The average penis length by age, outlined in Adolescent and Young Adult Health Care: A Practical Guide by Lawrence Neinstein, MD, should only serve as a guideline for genital development. 5

It should not be used to check if a teen is developing "on schedule" (an action that may only underscore insecurity). Rather, it should be used as a reference if your child fears they are falling behind in relation to all other markers for puberty.

The approximate ranges of a non-erect penis by age are as follows: 5

Because there may be errors in how the penis is measured, it is usually best to have the measurement done by a pediatrician or, better yet, an adolescent health specialist. 6

The diagnosis of an abnormally small penis would seem to be a pretty straightforward process, but it is actually not. While a physical exam may establish that a penis is below what might be expected for a child's age, it cannot accurately predict how much growth may still occur.

However, regardless of age at diagnosis, micropenis is defined as a penis 2.5 deviations smaller than the mean average for the age. 7

Early diagnosis, in infancy or early childhood, is important for effective treatment. If hormone deficiency is the underlying cause, for example, hormone supplementation can be effective at encouraging catch-up growth. 8

Keep in mind that there may be factors other than growth that explain a penis' abnormally short appearance. For example, excessive pelvic fat can obscure an otherwise normal-sized penis. The same may occur if a child has a very large frame, creating the impression that the penis is smaller than it is. 8

Less commonly, there are congenital conditions that limit how much of the penis is externally seen. Examples include penoscrotal webbing (in which the scrotum extends up the underside of the penis, creating an indistinct junction between the two) and phimosis (in which the foreskin is unable to retract). 9

Small penis size can sometimes occur as a result of a genetic disorder (such as Klinefelter's syndrome) which impedes the production of testosterone during fetal development. 8

Generally speaking, after the age of 8 there is little a doctor can do to promote penis growth in boys. For boys 8 and under, testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) may be used; research suggests that it is most effective in infancy and early childhood. 8 Delivered in three intramuscular injections over 12 weeks, TRT may increase the child's penis size to the reference range for their age. 6

For older boys, surgery may be explored to treat concealed penis abnormalities. The approach can vary by case, but may include circumcision or more extensive reconstructive procedures in which the skin of the penis is "degloved" and repositioned with sutures and skin grafts. 8

Penis enlargement surgery (phalloplasty) is not considered a reasonable option until later in life. The risk of complications may outweigh the perceived benefits, and the results tend to be variable at best. 8

While concerns about penis size may be understandable in teens going through puberty, it is unhelpful for those emotions to be echoed or reinforced by parents or family members. Ultimately, penis size should never be considered a measurement of one's masculinity or virility. These cultural attitudes only serve to undermine teens' confidence at a time when they are only just starting to explore who they are.

If your child is concerned about their penis size, take the time to discuss their feelings without diminishing them. In some cases, penis size may only be a symptom of a larger problem. In some cases, there may have been teasing at school or an underlying lack of confidence for which penis size is emblematic.

Whether the issue is physical or psychological, it often helps to work with a medical professional trained in adolescent health. By allowing an objective third party into the conversation, you can avoid any suggestion that there is a "problem" that needs resolving. Acknowledge your child's feelings and reassure them of their self-worth, but avoid false assurances and platitudes that may only add to their anxiety.

Most people understand the penis’s role during sex , but for all the praise and attention men often seek when it comes to declaring their penis is bigger and better than any other on the planet, they often know shockingly few facts about their own anatomy.
Some of the most frequently asked questions about the penis include these:
What is considered a big or small penis?
How many men have 7 inches (And how many have 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 inches?) and it that a good size?
You’d think that understanding all there is to know about their favorite organ would be top of most guys' to-do lists, but unfortunately, that’s not the case for many.
And while ignorance can be bliss, knowledge, especially about that oh-so-favored of body parts, is most definitely power.
Men and women alike may debate whether or not penis size matters, but while it’s no secret that the penis is there for both baby-making and having a damn good time, there are a lot of things many of us don’t know about phalluses, so prepare yourself to become better informed.
The correct way to measure a penis for accurate length is via measurements referred to by urologists as bone-pressed (BP) and non-bone pressed (NBP).
To measure penis length using the BP method: Place a ruler or measuring tape on the top side of the penis, pressing the base of the ruler firmly toward the pubic bone and extending it from there down to the tip of the head.
To measure penis girth: Simply wrap a measuring tape around the widest point of the shaft. Alternatively, you can wrap a string, shoelace, or similar item around the same section, mark where the ends meet, and measure the section of string with a ruler.
There is a clever (if technically less accurate) way to compare a man's penis using a United States dollar bill if you don't want to whip out the measuring tape.
The average sized penis will be smaller than the width of a dollar bill, which measures 6.14 inches .
If your/his penis comes to the end of the word "One" on the front, it's approximately 5 inches long. If it lands on the first "A" in America, it's about 4 inches.
I don't know about you, but I may never look at dollar bills the same way again.
You know you shouldn't care, but since you're probably curious, a 2013 study of 1661 men in the U.S. published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that the average penis size is smaller than most would probably think.
As self-measured and self-reported, the average penis is 5.6 inches long and 4.8 inches in circumference when erect.
A 2014 study of 15,521 men in the UK published in the British Journal of Urology International gets even more specifc.
Their calculations revealed that the average length of a flaccid penis is 3.60 inches, the average length of a flaccid penis when stretched is 5.21 inches, and the average length of an erect penis is 5.165 inches. As for girth, their findings revealed an average circumference of 3.7 inches when flaccid and 4.6 inches when erect, so all-in-all, not so far off.
So if you're wondered what is a considered a big penis, while answers are subjective, logic holds any penis measuring above average — so 6, 7, 8 or 9 inches — could reasonably be called big.
Researchers note that the way a man achieves an erection before measuring his penis can affect his results. Most participants in the US study mentioned above "measured their penis while alone, using hand stimulation to become erect."
However, it's also worth mentioning that those who "became aroused through oral sex reported larger penis size on average than those who attained erections through fantasizing."
Only 15% of men have penises measuring more than 7 inches long, only 3% measure over 8 inches, and only 7 in 1000 guys (0.7%) have a 9-inch penis . But while 85% of men have a penis that measures less than 7 inches in length, that doesn't mean that huge penises don't exist; they absolutely do.
The smallest recorded human penis measured 0.30 inches (one centimeter), while the largest measured 13.5 inches in length and 6.25 inches in girth. In comparison, the blue whale's penis is the largest in the animal kingdom, averaging 7 feet 10 inches long and about one foot in diameter.
And after his big photo scandal, we now know where Justin Bieber's penis falls on this scale...
Considering how important a penis can be to a man’s confidence and his self-esteem , it's unfortunate that so many men believe their capacity for how well they can perform in bed depends almost solely on their penis size.
While this may not seem entirely fair, it turns out that penis size can be a predictor of some matters related to sex, including a woman's ability to have orgasms during penetration. So the idea of being a "size queen" might have some logic to it.
In a 2015 study , researchers at UCLA used 3D models and haptic stimuli to assess women's preferences in relation to penis size.
Their findings state that for the purposes of a one-night stand, women prefer a slightly larger than average penis, indicating a preference for a penis measuring 6.4 inches in length and 5.0 inches in circumference.
However, in the content of a long-term relationship, women preferred a penis closer to the average size, at 6.3 inches in length and 4.8 inches in circumference.
Penis size is only a concern if
