If you've ever found yourself gazing at the opposite sex wondering if the grass is greener on the other side, this list is for you. Ladies can appreciate a beautiful woman, that's for sure. But at what point does admiration turn into something a little more ? Given gender and sexual fluidity , how can you really know where you exist on the spectrum without exposure to alternatives? And what better form of exposure is there than mass media? If you sometimes find yourself watching sapphic cinema and lusting for another woman, at least a few of these movies that make you question your sexuality will be familiar to you.
In light of all this, an obvious question arises: when does a film offer such a lucid picture of lesbian love it can make a woman question her own sexuality? The answer probably changes from person to person. Perhaps erotic lesbian movies get you hot and bothered, but it's great bisexual movies like Blue Is the Warmest Color , which explore the full spectrum of sexuality, gender, and the confusion that comes with it, that impact you emotionally. You should probably also ask yourself whether you're turned on watching Wild Things or heart broken from the social injustice and restrictive codes on display in Carol . The best movie on this list is not necessarily the hottest.
Female sexuality in film is ubiquitous, but when women turn their attention towards each other, well, that's a different movie altogether, especially when that film deviates from the male gaze and takes a distinctly female or nonbinary view of sexuality. The eroticism of movies with lesbian affairs is second to none and can certainly make any girl wonder. And if you like these movies, be sure to check out the best lesbian movies on Netflix .
You know how some people are just so damn interesting you could watch them read the newspaper and be enthralled? Cate Blanchett is that kind of person. Throw her in a great movie and you have a can't-lose proposition. Such is the case with Carol , a 1950s-set drama about a forbidden lesbian love affair, as directed by Todd Haynes, adapted from a story by Patricia Highsmith, and starring an equally terrific Rooney Mara.
Carol offers a lot to think about - a beautiful love story, some tender and very passionate sex, an unflinching examination of the hardships of being a gay woman in a straight man's world, an insightful look at the sexual confusion of youth, and the complexities of navigating the straights of desire and social obligation.
At 179 minutes, Blue Is the Warmest Color is a serious commitment, but the film's depiction of female sexuality is unparalleled. The French drama, which won the Palme d 'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, is raw and real and probably shouldn't be the first film you view on this list, because the turbulent portrait it paints of discovering sexual fluidity in an antagonistic world might give you pause.
Just because Blue Is the Warmest Color is French, doesn't mean it's hard to watch. The relationship between the leads is riveting and erotic to say the least, and their performances are phenomenal. The film's structure is fantastic - it's divided into two halves, which mirror one another - and has a lot to say about class , race, and the politics of relationships, if you care to scratch the surface. Carve out some time and give it a try.
If you were a nerdy girl in high school who admired the hot girl not because you wanted to be her but because you wanted to be her girlfriend, this movie manifests all your fantasies in one scene.
The kiss between Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox is why Jennifer's Body will make you question your sexuality, or bring you back to a time when you did. What if you didn't just have to admire or look jealously at someone who embodies female sexuality? What if you could have that person?
Of course, the movie offers a lot more than that, if you care to look. It's a subversive fable about a young woman who, inhabited by a demon, turns her back on patriarchal society, murdering men and taking herself away from them as a sexual object by reserving her sexuality for other women. There's some stellar writing and genius plot twists in writer Diablo Cody's follow up to Juno .
Considered one of director David Lynch's best films, Mulholland Drive offers a little bit of everything. There's profanity, gore, sleuthing, surrealism, melodrama, outlandish humor, old Hollywood glitz and glamor, unabashed sapphic eroticism, and plenty of highly sexualized female nudity. Just because this is an award-winning film doesn't mean it's pretentious and boring.
Though some find Mulholland Drive a bit confusing , a close reading of the film reveals a layered, cutting critique of the way Hollywood, and society more generally, exploits women for their youth, beauty, and sexuality, while duping them into believing there's value in playing along. Lesbianism plays into these themes by showing a world beyond the grasp of patriarchal values, in which women can be themselves, and truly love and be loved. A world that is corrupted by jealously, confusion, paranoia, and desperation when it's forced to coexist with mainstream society.
Regardless of where you land on the sexual spectrum, Mulholland Drive may have you wanting to withdraw to an Arcadian world in which men have no influence and women are free to be themselves in all respects.

There are lots and lots of lesbian scenes. I should know. I wrote my master’s thesis about the representation of queer women in media. Lesbians could be seen in early films but weren’t often presented as such.
In the 1930s a few lesbian scenes could be seen on screen, but with the Hays Code implemented in 1934, explicit gayness in film was forbidden until 1968.
Obviously, queer women didn’t disappear. It became all about the subtext. This is why we’re all so good at recognizing lesbians in any film or TV show.
Nowadays, representation definitely still isn’t perfect, but it is quite nice to see how we are slowly moving towards better lesbian representation.
I did pick most lesbian scenes from recent lesbian movies and lesbian shows, since it would most likely be more accessible if you want to watch the entire film or show. But that isn’t to say there aren’t any lesbian scenes in older media.
Anyway, without further ado, enjoy these lesbian love scenes, steamy lesbian scenes, lesbian kissing scenes, and lesbian movie scenes!
Let’s start with the best lesbian love scenes!
Do you want to watch the full lesbian movies and lesbian shows? You can watch these on Amazon Prime Video and lesbian Netflix .
This lesbian show tells the story of the life of Anne Lister, who was a landowner and diarist in Halifax, West Yorkshire in the 19th century.
I thought this show was definitely an eyeopener; the way Anne deals with her gender expression and orientation in a time when there were no words for this yet is pretty great to see.
Anne and Ann are also incredibly cute together, and I love how they both handled their relationship when this was far from accepted.
The Gentleman Jack lesbian love scene I picked is a reunion, as Anne has just gotten back from Copenhagen. Ann hints that if Anne were to propose to her, again, she would say yes this time.
Which is what happens. We love happy lesbians!
When this movie came out, there weren’t that many mainstream looking romantic comedies about two women falling in love with a happy ending.
And even though it’s been quite a few years, there still aren’t enough lesbian movies like this.
The ending of Imagine Me & You is definitely one of the cuter and better lesbian movie scenes in the books.
After Luce has taken off to leave the country (because she can’t stand being close to Rachel, since she is very much in love with her) Rachel realizes that Luce is the one that she wants, not her husband.
She chases Luce to tell her that she does love her. The entire lesbian scene is just too cute.
It definitely makes me want to fall in love and chase a girl for whatever reason.
If you still haven’t seen this episode of Black Mirror , what are you waiting for?
If I could, I had posted the entire episode here because every scene between Yorkie and Kelly is amazing, it’s one of my favorite lesbian stories . I figured this scene is a good lesbian love scene to put here.
It’s the first time the two are intimate with each other and Yorkie confesses that it’s her first time being intimate with anyone ever. I love how real this entire scene feels.
The two actresses have such a good connection together, which makes it seem even more natural than it already is.
Mackenzie Davis plays Yorkie in the episode, and we all know her from the lesbian Christmas movie Happiest Season !
I’m still mad that Carol was taken off Netflix. Unacceptable.
Carol focuses on the relationship between a young photographer and an older woman going through a divorce, which already sounds gay enough in itself.
It was named the best LGBT film of all time in 2016 and clearly, this is a good one. It’s a period drama, set in 1952.
Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett take the plot to an even higher level with their great chemistry and amazing acting.
In this scene, the two have gone on a road trip together. And it’s not a road trip with two women who are helplessly in love with each other without some lesbian love scenes and intimate scenes, right?
It’s even better all of this is happening on New Year’s Eve. Happy lesbian new year!

So I know this one hurts (a lot) so I won’t dwell on it too much. But for a moment, let’s just pretend that what happened after this scene doesn’t actually exist.
I was a hardcore Clexa lesbian shipper back in 2015/2016, and I’m pretty sure I still haven’t healed. I don’t know if I ever will.
However, looking at this scene individually, isn’t this the most beautiful and one of the best lesbian love scenes ever? Is Clarke finally giving in to her feelings?
Lexa being the useless lesbian she is and crying when Clarke finally kisses her? Perfection.
It’s not an article about lesbian scenes without the lesbian Netflix show Orange Is the New Black on it.
There were so many lesbian scenes in Orange Is the New Black that it’s probably hard to count them. Has anyone done that before?
Anyway, personally, I still think that Poussey and Soso were the cutest lesbian couple to ever exist on the show. Their love was so pure, it made my heart melt every time the two of them were onscreen together.
The lesbian scene I picked is also a great example of that.
Soso tries to be intimate in the library because she has the feeling their relationship is one-sided since she’s never pleasured Poussey before. Poussey stops her to tell her she doesn’t have to do it if she’s not ready for it.
The rest of their conversation is incredibly cute and really shows a good way on how to talk about topics like these.
I’m sure most of us have tuned in to the new The L Word Generation Q at the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020 to see some old familiar faces and to get attached to new ones.
A lot of drama has gone down again, and I enjoyed every little piece of it.
I know that there are a lot of discussions about whether Dani and Sophie’s relationship was problematic or not (yes), but that doesn’t take away from the fact that this lesbian love scene is very cute.
Dani proposes to Sophie, and it is all very cute and clumsy, which makes it all the way more real.
Let’s just not take into account that things went downhill pretty fast after this. We won’t spoil it, but you’ll see if they’ll become a married lesbian couple in season 2! And I can’t wait for a season 3!
It’s possible to watch The L Word Generation Q on Amazon Prime Video and on lesbian Hulu .
Wow, I really miss this show. Orphan Black was a one-of-a-kind, high-quality show in which everything just felt right.
One of the right things they did was make one of the clones a lesbian.
Cosima and Delphine were the lesbian science nerds we didn’t know we needed in our lives but welcomed with open arms. Their chemistry was incredible!
In this scene, Delphine goes to visit Cosima, so they can geek out together and also talk about their first kiss as an excuse to kiss her back this time and also end up in her bed.
Harlem is one of the new lesbian series that’s worth a watch for sure! It’s a fun comedy series that premiered on Amazon Pride Video in December 2021.
The series follows four best girlfriends in Harlem in New York City . And while only one seems to be part of the LGBTQ+ community (the masculine lesbian Tye), more to the end of the season it seems Quinn isn’t straight either.
In the scene I picked, Quinn asks Isabela on a date, while they almost shared a kiss earlier. Quin’s response afterward, yelling YESSSS to her best friend and saying, ‘I’m an LGBTQ babe’, is gold. Yes to LGBTQ happiness like this.
I do hope she breaks up with her boyfriend before going on a date, as I never want to encourage cheating. And hopefully, we will see a lot more of Quinn and Isabela during season 2, can’t wait for it!
This is one of the older and classic lesbian movies and scenes on this list.
When a woman named Rita survives a car accident on Mulholland Drive, she has amnesia. After the accident, Rita hides out in a residence. It’s the residence of Betty’s aunt, and Betty decides to help Rita.
Their connection grows and a lot more happens!
In the lesbian scene I picked, Rita thanks Betty for everything, and then they sleep together.
Imagine being stuck on a deserted island after a plane crash with many other teenage girls. In 2020, we got the lesbian show The Wilds and in 2021 we got Yellowjackets .
It’s 1996 and the Yellowjackets, a New Jersey high-school girls’ soccer team, are on their way to nationals. But they never make it there!
With that many girls, some of them need to be queer, right? Nobody knows about Taissa’s and Van’s lesbian relationship (yet), so they need to be cozy together in the wilderness in secret.
And that’s one of the sweet lesbian scenes I picked.
Let’s continue with some very steamy lesbian scenes.
Since 2017, the lesbian community has been divided over whether the spitting was hot or not. But even if you weren’t a fan of it, you can’t deny that the rest of this scene is still incredibly hot and beautifully shot.
What I love is that this lesbian scene doesn’t take on a male gaze.
Also, by mostly focusing on the women’s faces, it leaves a lot to the viewers’ imagination.
Fun fact: for the spit they used lychee lube!
I guess technically this scene doesn’t count as a full lesbian steamy scene, but a half steamy scene, because you know…
Booksmart is definitely one of my favorite lesbian movies from 2019 and this scene was definitely one of the highlights of the film.
Amy, known as a relatable useless lesbian with lots of gay stress, finds herself ending up in the bathroom at a party after a fight with her best friend Molly.
In there, she finds Hope, the hot and popular girl.
Obviously, you can guess what happens next.
So, in my opinion, it’s safe to say that this new The L Word Generation Q is a big success. I absolutely love it.
There have been a lot of great hot lesbian steamy scenes on the show, old and new, but I think most of you will agree when I say the threesome between Alice, Nat, and Gigi was one of the best ones of the new seasons.
That shit was super hot! Maybe one of the hottest ever?! To more hot lesbian scenes like this one!
I think this shows deserves its own article because the show was so gay and had many great lesbian steamy scenes.
Even though Piper and Alex weren’t my favorite couple, I do think this lesbian scene was a great one, since it’s their one and only hate ടex.
The tension in this scene is palpable, and the fact that they’re doing this being behind bars only makes it even hotter in my opinion.
Yes, you are allowed to admit that this was one of those hot scenes that were part of your gay awakening.
When this movie came out I was 16/17 years old, and I’d been out and proud for about four years already. But I’d be lying if I said this scene wasn’t another slap in the face for me to verify my lesbianism.
Whether this Black Swan steamy scene between the two really happened or it was all in Nina’s head, the way Nina finally lets go and explores her orientation is something that many of us can relate to.
This South Korean lesbian movie is inspired by the lesbian novel Fingersmith , written by Sarah Waters.
This might sound familiar to some of you because BBC has also made the novel into a miniseries back in 2005.
I absolutely love this lesbian film! Every aspect of it is so beautifully done.
The clip shows some of the most steamy scenes in the film, including a scene where the two ‘practice’ for one of the girls her future husband.
The rest of these lesbian scenes will also definitely make you blush!
Lorraine is an MI6 spy who comes across French rookie agent Lassalle on one of her missions. Even though she is wary of her, the two develop a romantic relationship.
In this scene, the two meet at a club. At first, they circle around each other for a bit until they both realize their tension is too much.
I remember seeing this movie in theaters, not knowing that this steamy lesbian scene was in it. Well, my mouth fell wide open.
It’s still quite rare to see a scene like this in a mainstream film that doesn’t feel like it’s meant for the male gaze.
This isn’t exactly a happy lesbian movie. The story is about a girl named Cameron who is sent to conversion therapy.
This all happens because of the lesbian intimate scene I have chosen here.
Cameron and her best friend Coley are at prom but have decided to take a break from the school party and go to the car to smoke and well, do some more stuff.
However, they get rudely interrupted by Cameron’s date. The rest of the film deals with the aftermath.
The film is a beautiful coming-of-age story in which Cameron gets to know herself and for the first time connects with peers within the LGBTQ+ community.
And don’t worry, just because she’s at a conversion therapy camp doesn’t mean there’s any less lesbian action.
Talking about steamy and hot lesbian scenes, hello, Blue Is the Warmest Color ! It’s one of the most famous and also controversial lesbian movies ever made. And it’s 3 hours long!! Three hours of French lesbian scenes.
But there’s sadly a lot wrong with the movie , especially with how it’s made and by whom, but let’s talk about the lesbian scenes for now!
The whole movie is super steamy and there are many very intimate lesbian scenes. But one sticks out, as it’s a 7-minute bed scene between Emma and Adèlè.
For the whole lesbian scene, you simply have to watch the movie, but I have a sneak peek for you.
It’s time for the best lesbian kissing scenes.
If you haven’t seen this movie with a beautiful lesbian love story yet, it’s a must-see!
I’d say that this is one of the best scenes of lesbians kissing at the moment.
Lesbian director Céline Sciamma has done an absolutely beautiful job capturing not just this scene, but the entire film.
I was lucky enough to attend one of the Portrait Q&As in Los Angeles . Which is when she said that she wanted to make sure the audience knew this was a consensual kiss, which is shown by both of them taking away the scarf in front of their mouth.
I don’t thi
