Come join us for a wonderful ride down memory lane! Here we explore vintage photos that tell the story of a beautiful time to be alive. As we learn throughout life, time is our most precious commodity...this collection of photos beautifully tell a story of a time that represent love, innocence, fame, and wonder. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, but it's the story behind these pictures that truly connect the dots and touch our hearts. Enjoy!
Debbi Fields was one of the first girls hired (at the age of 13) in Oakland as a "ball girl" a term they used for the girls that teams hired to throw shag balls in the foul area. Later, as an entrepreneur, she, with the help of her husband, Randy Fields, operated the business of Mrs. Fields Cookies. After they divorced in 1996, she then married Michael Rose in 1998.  Shows she has appeared on include "Vicki!," "The New Hollywood Squares," and "Frazier."
A husband and wife singing sensation, Sonny and Cher recorded "I Got You Babe" in 1965. They also made their first television appearance on American Bandstand in 1965. American Bandstand, hosted by Dick Clark, was a platform for many artists to perform while teenagers (that got chosen to be on the show) would dance. What started out as beautiful, singing love songs to each other on stage with "I Got You Babe" turned nasty by the 1970s.  When Sonny and Cher first met, she was only 16 years old and he was 27. Despite their popularity and success, they ended up in a very nasty (and public) divorce in 1975.
Pamela Hardy became Jim Liberman's sidekick on the drag racing "Funny Car" circuit when she was 18 years old. It was a "spur of the moment" decision on the day she met him and his Corvette. She was just walking down the street and he drove by in his Corvette, turned around and came back. She hopped in the car and went home with him, was intrigued by all the cars and atmosphere of drag racing and he hired her -- that was it! Unfortunately, after just a few years, ironically, he was killed -- not on the drag strip -- but in a road accident hitting head-on with a bus.
In this picture, Frank Zappa is enjoying some family time with his parents in this deep purple living room. Somebody definitely loved the color purple. As a musician, Frank Zappa played a variety of classical, jazz, pop, and rock music. Unlike most rock stars, he was against using drugs after a few times of using marijuana. He was a big advocate of freedom of speech and he expressed some of his views in his music. Some of his recordings with his group "Mothers of Invention" include: Who are the Brain Police?; Valley Girl; Stairway to Heaven; I Don't Wanna Get Drafted.
Sharon Tate played the part of Linda in the Valley of the Dolls, along with Patty Duke and Barbara Parkins. The movie is based on the novel by Jacqueline Susann and centers around three girls in show business who become addicted to pills. Sadly, Sharon Tate was murdered just two years later as one of the five victims of the Manson murders. At the time of her death, she was eight and a half months pregnant. She had just gotten married a year before to her director, Roman Polanski.
Actress, Judy Landers, was featured on the Johnny Carson Show in 1974. On the show, she told him she had a "crush" on him. He asked her "when did the crush leave you?" Judy Landers usually played in movies that portrayed her as being a ditzy blonde but at the same, always fun-loving and entertaining. Her first movie was "Goldie and the Boxer." Another fun movie she played in was "Armed and Dangerous" with John Candy, a very funny comedian. Some of the sitcoms that she appeared in include "BJ and the Bear," "Happy Days," "Night Court," and "Charlie's Angels."
Although he looks a little wild and woolly in this picture, Steve Martin has been and still is, an all-time favorite actor for many people.  Making people laugh for years in his numerous movies and stand-up comedy, he has become a household name. Besides acting, he also writes, which few people may realize. He has written content for many shows like "The Smothers Brothers," "The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour" and "The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour." Besides all the popular movies he has played in such as "The Jerk," "The Man with Two Brains," and "Father of the Bride", he has been on numerous shows like "Saturday Night Live" and "The Tonight Show."
Sophia Loren, shown here back in her younger years, is now 84 years old. Her career began really early in life with acting and pageants. At the age of 16, she won "Miss Elegance 1950" in the Miss Italia pageant. She also got married at the age of 16 to 37-year-old Carlo Ponti. By 1960, she was one of the most popular film stars in the world. Throughout her career, she has been known for her beauty and sex appeal more so than her brains.
Do blondes really have more fun? That all depends upon where life takes you. If you have the looks like Farrah Fawcett did, you can go places -- at least for a while. She became quite popular, starring in the popular show "Charlie's Angels" and being married to Lee Majors was also a plus, who starred in "The Six Million Dollar Man." Just six years later, though, she and Lee divorced and tired of being considered a "sex symbol," she left "Charlie's Angels" and starred in "The Burning Bed," which was a more serious role. Sadly, at the age of 62, she died of cancer but standing by her side was Ryan O'Neal, who she had been with for the better part of 29 years.
Talk about getting into character! Robert De Niro actually became a real cab driver in New York City in order to better play his role as a cab driver in the movie "Taxi Driver." The movie was about a Vietnam vet who had a problem with insomnia so he became a cab driver at night. This was not the only time he has "gotten into character" for an upcoming movie. For the movie "Raging Bull," he trained with Joe Pesci beforehand and for the movie "Cape Fear," he went through a complete transformation, building up at the gym, getting tattoos, and even having his teeth ground down.
Photographing a "night with the Millers," a photographer from Life magazine did a photo shoot of Marilyn Monroe and her 3rd husband, Arthur Miller (who was a playwright) while entertaining a theater producer named Kermit Bloomgarden (what a name!). Bloomgarden and Miller worked on several projects together and this night was about toasting him. The photographer took several other pictures that evening, depicting them in casual entertaining mode. Their blissful marriage, though, only lasted five years before they ended in divorce due to being "incompatible."
The Battle of the Network Stars, a network series that started in 1976, which hosts competitions among the stars from the different networks. Lynda Carter was one of those stars as she competed in a swimming competition against other famous actors and actresses, finishing in third place. Getting up as early as 5 am, in order to make time to work out as well as her day at the studio for the Wonder Woman series, she stayed highly active and in perfect shape. She was well-prepared to do battle for this competition.
Pictured here with his second wife, Jill Ireland, Charles Bronson was a well-known actor who played mostly in action movies including "Death Wish (IV)", "The Dirty Dozen" and "The Great Escape." Besides action though, he also played in a lot of westerns like "The Magnificent Seven" and "Guns of Diablo." Outside of his normal roles, he tried his hand at movies like "Kid Galahad" (a musical) alongside Elvis Presley and "The Sea Wolf" (an adventure movie).  Jill Ireland was previously married to David McCallum, who was also playing in the movie "The Great Escape."  At the ripe old age of 81, Charles Bronson passed away in 2003.
Although she was born a brunette, Brigitte Bardot decided to dye her hair blonde in 1956 for an Italian movie role she played in. Once getting a taste of being blonde, she decided to keep the hair color; and, for the most part, has always been seen as a blonde since that time.  She has played in various movies such as "The Truth," "And God Created Woman," and a musical called "Naughty Girl." After starring in 40 movies, she retired in 1973 and became an animal activist (and, naturally, a vegetarian).
Start your engines! Linda Vaughn became the Race Queen when she entered and won a contest of 200 girls for Hurst to become "Miss Hurst Golden Shifter." She became a highlight around the racing circuit, along with Nikki Phillips and June Cochran as the Hursettes, to form the trio of big-breasted glamour girls. They would show up at big races like the Daytona 500, Indy 500, and the Nationals. Linda loved the sport of racing. She even raced some herself, having gone through the Jim Russell school and receiving her SCCA license.
Ballet dancer and actress, Yvonne Craig was "Batgirl" on the "Batman" television series in the 1960s. On the show, she was the alter ego of the police chief's daughter, a librarian. After bringing Batgirl onto the show, it only lasted about a year and then the show was canceled. She played in some other movies and shows before and after "Batman" such as "Gidget" (as Nan) in 1959; "It Happened at the World's Fair" (as Dorothy Johnson) in 1963; and "Kissin Cousins" (as Azalea Tatum) in 1964. Later in life, she became a real estate broker.
One of the best movies that Elvis Presley starred in was with Ann-Margret in "Viva Las Vegas." They worked so well together in the movie that she practically stole the show from him. Even, off the camera, they apparently worked well together as she stated he was her "soul-mate." In the movie, he is a race-car driver who, after getting pushed into the pool and losing his engine, has to work as a waiter at the hotel, where his co-star (Ann-Margret) is working -- which is where the romance starts (in the movie).
From actress to activist, Alyssa Milano has also been a singer and a producer as well. Shows she has been in include not only "Who's the Boss?" but also "Melrose Place," "Charmed," "My Name is Earl" and "Mistresses." She got her first exposure to acting when her babysitter took her (without permission) to an audition for the play "Annie" and she was chosen as one of four girls out of 1,500. In her role as an activist, she has played a major role in protecting those affected by AIDS as well as supporting other victims of circumstances and/or diseases.
Before she began her series with "Bewitched," Elizabeth Montgomery starred in other television series and movies, one of which was "Johnny Cool." In this movie, she was a socialite who fell in love with a gangster named Johnny Cool (Henry Silva), who was a cold-blooded murderer, but she didn't care -- she still wanted to be with him even though he could have killed her as well. There were other well-known actors that played in this movie with them like Jim Backus and Sammy Davis Jr.
The TV series, M*A*S*H, was a comedy-drama centered around the Korean War which aired from 1972 to 1983. The setting was an Army hospital base with a team of doctors attending to the wounded. This series was, for the most part, lighthearted and funny but there were a lot of times when they took on a more serious role, addressing serious issues while still implementing a certain amount of comedy as well. There were laughter and tears that entertained many American families during that time, part of which was being aired during the Vietnam War.
A popular movie in 1977, "Smokey and the Bandit," was filled with action, romance and excitement. It was the first in a series of three but, by far, much better than the sequels that came later. With the magnetism between Sally Field and Burt Reynolds, along with high speeds throughout the movie, you can't beat it. The two actually dated for five years after the movie. And don't forget about Jackie Gleason and Jerry Reed to keep the laughs going. Fast, fun, and furious to beat the clock ahead of their competition!
A British actress who became popular through the 1968 series "The Champions," Alexandra Bastedo also became quite a "sex symbol" as well in the 1960s and '70s. Her role in the series was a spy named Sharron Macready. Other productions she was seen in include "13 Frightened Girls," "The Aphrodite Inheritance" and "Batman Begins" among others. Besides acting, she was also known to be an animal activist (and no surprise -- a vegetarian).  She died just less than a year after her husband died in January of 2014, both dying of cancer. They were married for 33 years.
In this episode of the "Wonder Woman" series, called the "Pied Piper," Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman/Diana Prince) is trapped in a spinning chair. In this particular episode, she has to use her superpowers to save Joe Atkinson's daughter from an evil rock star.  The Wonder Woman series was based on the DC comic book series. Also known as "The New Adventures of Wonder Woman" when they changed the name after the first season. This was a very exciting and fun show to watch with her spinning into action to rush to the rescue of someone in distress. Some of the scenes required some risk-taking stunts.
Beach movies usually pretty much had the same themes and storylines but were always fun and entertaining. The movie "Beach Party" was no exception, filled with music and dancing, partying on the beach, bikinis everywhere, and surfing. Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon, the two main characters in this movie, as well as many others, were always seen as being head over heels in love with each other and dedicated to each other. It's also interesting to note that Annette Funicello, unlike the other girls in the movies, always dressed in the most modest bathing suits.
Known as one of the hottest actors there is, Brad Pitt was actually dumped by Christina Applegate one night when they went on an "official date" to the MTV movie awards in 1989. They had been friends for a while but never went on a date before until that night. Then, for whatever reason, Christina apparently sees someone else who attracts her eye and she ends up leaving with him rather than Brad. Ever since that night, Hollywood has been trying to get the "scoop" on the other guy. In a 2016 article, Sebastian Bach claims he was the other guy. Only the two of them know for sure as Christina is not talking.
Considered to be one of the "most beautiful women in the world," Brigitte Bardot was just a teenager when she rose to fame. Making her appearance in 1952, she got Hollywood's attention, being a dark-haired French girl at the time. Later, in 1956, she decided to become a blonde -- bleaching her hair to become a blonde bombshell! Do blondes really have more fun? This blonde bombshell, for her 40th birthday, was portrayed in a nude photo shoot for Playboy magazine. Ironically, later in life, she developed breast cancer although she did survive it.
After the love of his life (his first wife, Elizabeth Weber) divorced him and left, Billy Joel took up drinking to try to alleviate his depression. But then he met Christie Brinkley (who was 28), a supermodel in a place called St. Bart's at the piano bar. At the same time, he had hooked up with a 19-year-old, Elle MacPherson. The first time he took Christie back to his place, guess who was already there waiting for him? That's right -- Elle. What a tangled web! Of course, Christie left but some time later (in 1985), they did end up marrying and having a daughter together.
"Herostratus" is a British film in which Helen Mirren plays in her first movie in a seductive scene where she is basically talking to the viewers with her enticing words. The movie is centered around a young unemployed and unnoticed poet who plans to commit suicide by jumping off a tall building but he wants to do it by making a grandiose statement against society for not "understanding him." Helen Mirren went on to perform in many more movies and television shows, some of which include: Troilus and Cressida; Hamlet; Where Angels Fear to Tread; The Prince of Egypt (voice); The Tempest.
This British model, Beverley Pilkington, was known for her "sexy" ad campaigns for Big D nuts through T-shirts, calendars, packages, etc. These were nuts that came from Dallas (thus the "D") and she helped the business to skyrocket in sales. B ack in 1975, she wore this particular T-shirt as part of a campaign to show support for Europe's continued membership in the EEC. A large majority of the voters back then were supportive of the decision for inclusion in the EEC despite many cabinet members asking for its withdrawal. Prime Minister Harold Wilson described it as a "historic decision."
Barbie doll? Actually, Barbi Benton has been multi-talented as she has been a model, actress and singer. A regular on Hee Haw for four seasons, she has also been featured in Playboy magazine starting at the age of 18 and getting into a relationship with Hugh Hefner that lasted for seven years. In 1970, at age 20, she started appearing in movies like "The Naughty Cheerleader." Later, she began making appearances on various television shows like "The Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Hollywood Squares" and "The Girls Next Door."
Bruce Lee, a martial arts expert, plays his part well as he delivers to his audience incredible moves in this 1973 movie "Enter the Dragon." His moves are so quick that your eyes cannot even follow all the action. It is quite interesting to note that the way they produced the sound effects of the blows was by snapping used chicken bones up close to a microphone. Jackie Chan was also featured in this movie, as Lee's opponent, who dies a most memorable movie death in the cave scene.
This phone booth was like Bruce's getaway. When he was about 17 or 18, he would go there a lot to sit and talk to his girl for hours on the phone (especially during the winter time) because he wanted to avoid going home. He and his dad used to get into many fights over different things but, in particular, over his long hair. His dad hated his long hair. In fact, he hated it so much that one night while Bruce was laid up in bed from a motorcycle accident, he had a barber come in and cut it. Bruce was so angry that he told him he hated him.
Popular as the lead vocalists for the group Rufus in the '70s, Chaka Kahn, was known as the Queen of Funk. While with the group Rufus, she received four gold singles, four gold albums, and two platinum albums. Before joining the group, Rufus, in 1970, she had joined the group Baby Huey and the Babysitters to replace Baby Huey after he had passed away. The group only lasted a year after that before they split up. One of her popular hits while with Rufus was "I'm Every Woman."
During the 1960s and 1970s, Claudia Cardinale was an Italian bombshell that became a popular sex symbol through her acting in famous European films and also some American films. With her role, in 1963, in "The Pink Panther," she became famous in both the United States and Britain. She also played in "The Blindfold," "The Professionals" and "Once Upon a Time in the West" among others. In
