With the final full moon of 2020 setting behind the southern tip of the San Mateo Mountains, a hot eastbound Z9 races into the sunrise near Suwanee, NM. Early morning temperatures here were in the teens, but the numb fingers and watering eyes were worth nabbing this perfectly timed shooter with the "correct" leader for my last shot of the year.

Hard to believe this was taken on 31/10/2015. Temperatures still hitting mid teens which is hot for Northern Ireland. Had to take this handheld as these inquisitive heifers just keep coming towards you. Closed down to F20 and got this shot of the sun bursting past the animals ear. I love the long shadows coming from their legs as the sun drops low in the sky before sunset. This was just one shot edited from RAW. It definitely is better for dynamic range with RAW.
Taken several years back. I carried away two major memories of our explorations there, one was the almost indescribable beauty and scope of the rock formations and two...just how bloody awful hot it was! The daytime temp was between 110 to 100 and high teens, with a couple going over 120degs. We could not go out during the day, (don't care what the tourist bureau said) so we would go out in the early mornings and last till about 11:00, then hole up in the hotel and go back out around 7:00. Night-time temps were usually at least 80 deg.
Still, as tough as that was, the show the desert and Mother Nature were presenting was mind blowing. Next time not going in June!

Art Show Gala to Celebrate the International Criminal Court in New Justice Center in Second Life with USC
Hosted by USC Network Culture Project at the Annenberg School for Communication
A dozen prominent artists presenting new works on themes of justice
Unique interactive collaboration in virtual world connects real world issues
(March 17, 2008) The USC Network Culture Project at the Annenberg School for
Communication harnesses creative potential in digital media with a groundbreaking new art exhibition opening March 19th at 5PM PST in Second Life. The Visions of Global Justice gala will share new works on themes of justice with international leaders to preview the new Justice Center in celebration of the International Criminal Court.
On Wednesday March 19th the new Justice Commons and International Island sims in Second Life will feature a dozen talented artists from the virtual world presenting their visions of justice. USC Network Culture hosts this gala opening with support from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation in partnership with Global Kids. Teens from Global Kids will also present original art at the Justice Commons throughout the month of March.
This arts exhibition is a transmedia celebration of the International Criminal Court. Additionally, the International Criminal Court will be the topic of simulcasts on March 20th with Global Kids in the virtual worlds of Second Life, There, and Whyville. On the same day, the International Justice Center will host a live video screening in which former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi A. Annan will receive the MacArthur Award for International Justice from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, an independent grantmaking institution committed to building a more just, sustainable, and peaceful world. Mr. Annan will also deliver a major address on international justice. The March 20th simulcast will be the first time an international event will streamed across all three of these virtual worlds.
The International Justice Center builds on Global Kids’ groundbreaking work by establishing an online hub supporting the ICC and the global justice concerns it addresses; this innovative online learning center will provide resources for people to learn about the ICC, connect with ICC officials and advocates, and take action in support of human rights and international justice.

In 2006, Global Kids became the first non-profit to develop a dedicated space for programming in the virtual world of Teen Second Life (TSL). Global Kids brings students from its New York based programs into the organization’s headquarters to conduct youth leadership programming and stream audio and video of major international events. This innovative program is conducted in collaboration with the MacArthur Foundation, UNICEF, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Youth Venture, and the International Criminal Court, among others. This is a place build for students by the harbor. What you can't hear, is all the talking on a hot spring night, from the balconies.
I have to walk 5 miles a day, though I'm in a lot of pain when I get home and sometimes its bad when I'm walking. But I can't just sit at home and get weaker.
Its strange how humans just adapt to most changes in our lives.
Like student here in my country, they get money each month from the government, so that everyone has a chance to study. Now they cut 1/3 of what they get and how they can afford to live here, I don't know.
But youth has been spoiled for years, a whole generation of teens growing up with work and being able to do what they wanted. If they didn't like one job, they just moved on to the next. And no one wanted to share an apartment, they wanted their own and as close to down town as possible.
Now there's no jobs and they are going back to living together.
Well thank god for my camera, though I can only take a few shots when I go out, it makes the pain worthwhile.

After getting a heads up about this HOT train, I left my Christmas Party and headed for the Chicago Line praying they wouldn't yard this train in Elkhart as many people have said before. Well 3 hours later the train finally showed up with my flashes ready to light up the area.
With temps in the lower teens and wind chill below negative zero, it was just about to leave after the 3 hour mark then they called the signal just outside of Archbolt, which made sticking around for another 5 minutes.

American actor River Phoenix (1970-1993) was noted for the depth, sensitivity, and intelligence that he brought to his roles during his teens. He began his acting career at age 10 in television commercials and had his first notable role in the coming-of-age film Stand by Me (1986). Phoenix made a transition into more adult-oriented roles with Running on Empty (1988), which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and My Own Private Idaho (1991), for which he won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. He was on the cusp of becoming a major star when he overdosed on drugs and died on Halloween night, 1993. At the time of his death, he was filming Dark Blood, which was released incomplete 19 years later, in 2012.
River Phoenix was born River Jude Bottom in 1970, in a log cabin on a mint farm in Madras, Oregan. He was the first child of Arlyn Dunetz and John Bottom. His parents named him after the "river of life" that flowed through Hermann Hesse's novel 'Siddhartha' and for the Beatles' song 'Hey Jude'. From the time Phoenix was born, his parents lived the hippie life, moving to several communes until they joined the controversial Children of God cult. They became missionaries for their new church and spent a couple of years wandering Latin America before landing in Venezuela. Phoenix never attended formal school. Along the way, three more children were born: Rain, Joaquin Rafael (who grew up to be actor Joaquin Phoenix), and Libertad Mariposa. Though John Bottom had been designated the "Archbishop of Venezuela and the Caribbean," he and his family received no missionary funds from their church and lived in poverty. Phoenix and his siblings often sang and performed on street corners for food. His family hit their lowest point when Phoenix was seven and the penniless brood was forced to move into a beach hut until a local priest showed mercy and arranged for them to be stowed away on a Florida-bound freighter. The crew discovered the family during the voyage but treated them kindly. Shortly after their arrival in Florida in 1978, the family legally changed its name to Phoenix, after the mythical bird that rises from its own ashes, symbolising a new beginning. While the family was in Florida, another child, Summer Joy Phoenix, was born. River Phoenix had originally wanted to be a musician and did not become interested in acting until 1979 when he and Rain were spotted in a talent show and invited to audition at Hollywood's Paramount Studios. Believing that the opportunity was worth more than the possible risks involved, the Phoenix family headed West in a battered station wagon. Their arrival in Burbank was disappointing, as the Paramount people reneged on what the family had believed to be an offer to audition the children. Once again the family was destitute and the children returned to busking for change. Matters improved when agent Iris Burton spotted the four children singing for spare change in Westwood, Los Angeles, and was so charmed by the family that she soon represented the four siblings. She started finding work for Phoenix in television commercials and in series such as Real Kids (1980), for which he and Rain worked as a warm-up act. Phoenix's first real break came when he won a leading role in the TV series Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1982) with Richard Dean Anderson. From there, he made guest appearances on such television series as Family Ties and in such TV movies as Robert Kennedy: The Man and His Times (Marvin J. Chomsky, 1985) in which he played Robert Kennedy Jr., and Brad Davis his father.
River Phoenix made his feature-film debut as geeky boy-scientist Wolfgang Müller in the Science-Fiction Fantasy Explorers (Joe Dante, 1985). The film, which also starred a debuting Ethan Hawke, was not a tremendous box-office success, but Phoenix received favourable notices. He earned even more acclaim in the bittersweet coming-of-age story Stand By Me (Rob Reiner, 1986), based on the novella 'The Body' by Stephen King.
