DESPERATE for the toilet, Matt locks the bathroom door and begins taking off all of his clothes, knowing as soon as he's naked he'll be able to do his business.
He's one of a growing number of men who say they need to remove all of their clothes before emptying their bowels in order to fully enjoy the experience.
“It started when I was six over a fear that somehow my clothes would get covered in poop ,” Matt, 20, told the Sun Online.
“I feel more free and comfortable when I’m naked - clothes just make things hot and constricted."
But it's not just in the comfort of his own home that Matt gets naked before pooing.
He - like thousands of others who have admitted the strange habit on social media - gets naked in the toilet at work, at his mates' house - and even in public bathrooms.
"Whenever I’m somewhere private, even at work, I get fully undressed for it and fold up my clothes,” he tells us.
While pooing naked might seem strange to some of us, many men who have shared their toilet tendencies online are quick to argue that the practice is natural.
Matt says: "I carried on pooing naked from childhood because it's natural to me.
"People probably think its odd because they think they have to wear clothes. That's what we're told, but it's not true."
“As a kid I used to insist on taking all of my clothes off when my parents were potty training me,” one Reddit user reveals. “And if I couldn’t take them off I would refuse to do it. It all stems from that.”
“Clothes are just hot, sweaty, constricting and uncomfortable,” comments another .
"When I take my clothes off I feel more free to do my business, like animals do. Now I always go full nude.”
Psychologist Dr Stauffer-Kruse believes that for some men, their need to get naked stems from childhood toilet experiences.
He says: “Some people may feel shame while on the toilet. It all stems back to their parents' reactions to them when they are potty training and how they felt at that time.
“They may have been told that poo and getting messy from it is shameful so they may react by wanting to get rid of their clothes - it makes them feel less psychologically, as well as physically, restricted.”
Another naked toilet user tells us, “pooping is always an event for me” .
“I lay sheets of toilet paper on the ground, take off all my clothes and balance each item on top of my shoes - then I do my business naked.”
The former lorry driver reveals he used to plan his day around his lengthy and complex trips to the loo, but the freedom he felt by removing everything, including jewellery and watches, was worth the time.
Agreeing with him, another 25-year-old explains that removing his clothes enables him to "have a wider stance and be in more of an ‘open’ position - it leaves less of a mess,” while another says “When I try to poo with clothes on I feel really awkward, kind of like if I had left my coat on, and it makes me feel anxious.
"I don’t want any clothes touching me in those private moments.”
Sticking to a ritual proves a common theme for men who are this way inclined.
One says: “I can’t poop unless my clothes are 100 per cent out of my field of vision. It makes me feel uncomfortable, so I hide them out of site.”
Going to the loo can be an opportunity for some alone time - but for some, this includes stripping off.
“The toilet is a time for me to relax, sit down, grab a book and think about my day. Clothes just really spoil my me-time, so whenever I’m at home, the clothes are off,” says one man.
Dr Stauffer-Kruse explains that this can be because of “men's fascination with being 'primal' and wanting to escape the roles that modern life has bestowed on them - and these roles are often connected to our clothes".
“Some people just like being naked. You hear about people who sleep naked, clean naked and of course, nudists - these people just like to celebrate their core selves without any constraints.”
