Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West

Although Horizon Forbidden West will certainly have better graphics and loading times if you play on PS5, it’s nice to know that PS4 issues won’t be missing out this time. That’s good news for anyone that has been struggling to buy a new console due to PS5 stock issues. The information came from game director Mathijs de Jonge in an interview withGame Informer, where he also shared new story and character details. The presentation revealed that Aloy has some new tools to get around in Forbidden West, like a diving mask to let her dive underwater and a Breath of the Wild-like hang glider.

Horizon Forbidden West will one again see players take control of Aloy, a hunter braving an Earth reclaimed by nature — and the animalistic machines that inhabit it — long after an apocalyptic event. The PS5 version of the game also uses a “cinematic lighting rig” normally reserved for use in cutscenes. A lot about the game was revealed recently at the annual E3 event and all that was shown can be seen down below. An opening for a “Horizon Forbidden West” at Guerrilla suggested that Horizon Forbidden West might also feature a new online mode. The job description states that the developer is in need of someone to work on "systems like matchmaking, tournaments, clans, and leaderboards."

COVID has caused issues with gaming development around the industry, which may be a reason why Sony doesn’t want to commit to a hard release date just yet. From that we could posit Horizon Forbidden West is on track for a release this year, probably towards the end of 2021. That could be optimistic thinking on our part, but the game looks like it's a good way into it's development.

And much like in the first game, it looks like you’ll still be slinging a lot of arrows against your enemies, both human and machine. "Horizon Forbidden West features new weapons that are designed to feel unique and play a specific role in combat with machines and human opponents," Game Director Mathijs de Jonge explained to PlayStation Blog. "The DualSense wireless controller adaptive triggers will help us to make the weapons feel even more unique and satisfying to use."

From the looks of the gameplay trailer, it looks like she's going to need all those skills and gear because she's up against some new and epic enemies. De Jonge also explained how the skill tree is how players will be able to unlock 'Valor Surges', the powerful electric move we saw Aloy unleash during the recent Horizon Forbidden West gameplay reveal. Horizon Forbidden West doesn’t have a solid release date just yet but in an interview with Hardware Zone, game director Mathijs de Jonge has said that it’s in the “last stages of development”. The visuals look stunning, but it is – admittedly – still a work in progress and a solid release date is yet to be confirmed. Horizon Forbidden West continues Aloy's story, and takes her to a post-apocalyptic western United State to recover a piece of ancient technology needed to stop a mysterious threat. The game will offer a whole new open world to explore replete with new machines, gadgets for traversal and weapons.
