Hook Entertainment Denies Never Paying for Lee Seung-gi's Music

 Hiburan  > Seleb

Hook Entertainment has again opened up about the alleged problem of paying Lee Seung-gi's music profits. This time, the agency vehemently denied ever sharing the profits of Lee Seung-gi's music career.

"Reports recently released by the media about the content of Lee Seung-gi and Hook Entertainment's contracts such as the profit distribution ratio and never paying Lee Seung-gi even once for his music income are different from the truth," the agency said as reported by SBS News, Friday (25/11).

In the written statement, the agency revealed that it had settled finances with Lee Seung-gi when the artist's exclusive contract expired in 2021.

"When Hook Entertainment and Lee Seung-gi signed another exclusive contract after it expired in 2021, both parties had examined all the details of the settlement regarding (Lee Seung-gi's) career," Hook Entertainment said.

"We have also settled the bond and financial debt relationship between our company and Lee Seung-gi. Both parties have written a consent agreement to confirm that," the agency confirmed.

However, they stated that they will continue to track and review the profits from his music career that Lee Seung-gi had officially filed some time ago.

"Hook Entertainment is once again carefully reviewing with experts the large amount of profit settlement that Hook Entertainment has paid to Lee Seung-gi."

"At this time, we plan to set things straight and correct and take responsibility for our mistakes if proven," Hook Entertainment said.

In the written statement, they also apologised again for the recent problems between the agency, CEO Kwon Jin-young, and Lee Seung-gi.

They also apologised to the artist for the issue and the inappropriate behaviour CEO Kwon Jin-young made towards him.

"In particular, we would like to express our apologies to Lee Seung-gi who is having a difficult time because of this."

"We would also like to bow our heads and apologise to those who were hurt by CEO Kwon Jin-young's inappropriate words and actions."

"As a celebrity agency that is supposed to maintain relationships with its artists based on faith and trust, we once again apologise."

The statement and apology came a few days after Dispatch reported that Lee Seung-gi had never once made a profit from his music sales over the past 18 years.

Not only that, in another report, Dispatch also uncovered voice recordings of CEO Kwon Jin-young's anger towards the artist, asking for financial records of income and stating that he "wanted to kill Lee Seung-gi."

Yesterday (24/11), Lee Seung-gi's lawyer also opened up about it. They stated that Hook Entertainment has never discussed payments related to Lee Seung-gi's musical activities since his debut in 2004.

"As a representative, Hook Entertainment has never once mentioned the discussion of payment for music, he (Lee Seung-gi) was not even aware of the income from his music, and only recently realised about the profits due to a message accidentally sent by one of the employees."

Here's Hook Entertainment's full statement on the accusation of never paying Lee Seung-gi.

"Hello, we are Hook Entertainment.

First of all, we are embarrassed and would like to apologise to everyone for the continuous negative news coming out recently as well as the issues between us and Lee Seung-gi.

In particular, we would like to extend our apologies to Lee Seung-gi who is having a difficult time because of this.

We would also like to bow our heads and apologise to those who were hurt by CEO Kwon Jin-young's inappropriate words and actions.

As previously mentioned in Hook Entertainment's press release, we are in the process of securing and organising accurate data to respond to the content certification we received from Lee Seung-gi's legal representative.

It is unfortunate that the media has reported information that has not been accurately verified.

When Hook Entertainment and Lee Seung-gi signed another exclusive contract after the exclusive contract in 2021 expired, both parties examined all the settlement details of [Lee Seung-gi's] career.

We settled the bond and financial debt relationship between our company and Lee Seung-gi. Both parties also wrote an agreement confirming that fact.

However, following Lee Seung-gi's request, Hook Entertainment once again carefully reviewed with experts the large amount of profit settlement Hook Entertainment had paid to Lee Seung-gi.

In addition, reports recently released by certain media outlets regarding the content of Lee Seung-gi and Hook Entertainment's contract such as the profit distribution ratio, etc., as well as reports about Hook Entertainment never paying Lee Seung-gi once for his music revenue are different from the truth.

Currently, we plan to set things straight and correct and take responsibility for our mistakes if proven. As a celebrity agency that is supposed to maintain relationships with its artists based on faith and trust, we once again apologise.

Also, in the case of Lee Sun-hee, as she is an artiste who has been with Hook Entertainment since the beginning, she is nominally listed as a director.

However, from 2006 to 2021, Hook Entertainment was a one-man company with shares owned by Kwon Jin-young 100 per cent, and Lee Sun-hee was never involved in the management affairs or profit sharing of the company.

At the same time, Hook Entertainment also announces that we will not tolerate slander and harm to its artists due to speculation on this matter and will take strict legal action through our legal representatives.

Thank you."
