Note: If you have any problems with this release (as it contains a lot of big changes), report them to me in as much detail as possible (along with error logs, contained in the “log folder), and then you can download the previous version here (1.15.9.32 R37) if you need to. If you downgrade, replace your config.ini file with the backup copy, as they are not downwards compatible between 1.15.9.32 and 1.16.9.32.
Time for another update announcement!
This version of HDoujin now saves the download queue in a separate file (queue.manga), using a new format that allows it to hold a lot more information about each of the entries (including Original Title, Status, Release Date, Reading Direction, Scanlator/Translator, Characters, Language, Series, Publisher, and Parody, among other things). Of course, it goes without saying that not all sites currently support all fields, so if you come across a site that has information you want that HDoujin isn’t picking up, let me know .
When you download and run this release, it should convert your current download queue to the new format without any problems. However, I suggest backing up your config.ini before applying this update just in case (assuming you don’t already have “Backup config.ini before applying updates” checked)! Better safe than sorry, right?
That out of the way, this release is focused more on improving existing features than adding new ones. Unfortunately, the ability to search websites from within the program has not yet been fully implemented, so that will be saved for the next major release– my apologies to those of you that are eagerly waiting for it. I decided it was more important to make sure that current features are as good as they can be before introducing new ones. However, there’s still a lot to like about this release:
Adding manga to the Download Queue is Now Faster Manga information is now parsed on its own thread when you add content to the queue. Before this update, information was parsed on the main thread– this normally happened quickly enough to negligible, but was noticeable when adding a large amount of content to the queue at once (e.g., pages of galleries). Now, the process feels a lot smoother.
New Columns & Column Reordering A few new columns have been added: File Size, Progress Bar, and ETA, and they all display exactly what you’d think (they can be added under Right-Click > Choose Columns).
You can also now reorder the columns in the download queue to your liking by dragging them where you want them, and an option has been added under Choose Columns to allow the columns to extend past the viewing region (adding a horizontal scroll bar).
Relative Paths Properly Supported You can now use relative paths as download directories, which makes it easier to run the program from a flash drive and keep your downloaded content with it without having to change the path every time you plug it into a new computer.
Detailed Information Files Information files (info.txt) now contain many more information fields, as described above. There are also many more customization options available under Settings > Save to > Information > Edit. You can now save the information in JSON files, and tag namespaces are now respected on sites that use them (e.g., g.e-hentai.org, exhentai.org) if you enable it. If you want to save an information file without downloading the content it’s associated with, you can right-click the entry in the queue and click “Save Information”.
Easily Add Sequences of URLs Someone commented asking if there was an easier way to add a bunch of pages at once for sites that support the adding of search results (nhentai.net, g.e-hentai.org, exhentai.org, hentai2read.com). Now there is! Using the Generate field under Manga > Add From List, you can easily generate a sequence of URLs by providing a template with a numeric range.
Improved Clipboard Adding You no longer need to copy exact URLs to use the Add From Clipboard feature. Instead, you only need to highlight the link (or multiple links) in your web browser and copy them like that, saving you the tedious trouble of copying each one individually. It’s also really easy to add lists of URLs from text files– just copy all of the URLs in one go (it’s also possible to open generic text files directly, and all URLs parsed from them are then added to the queue).
ePUB Conversion Support Thanks to a lot of help from someone who really likes ePUBs, ePUB support has been fully implemented over the past couple of releases, making it easy to read your manga on a variety of e-reader devices.
Aside from all of that, subtle changes have been made here and there to improve ease-of-use and site parsing algorithms have been updated. For more information, see the 1.16.9.32 section of the changelog .
[ Note: Due to a take-down request from Jacob of FAKKU, I’m forced to remove mentions of FAKKU from this update announcement.]
New features include Mangafox watermark removal (leave a comment if there are any other sites you use that have an annoying watermark on their images), the ability to view the current session’s download statistics , the updated scripting system (which can be used both to manually add new sites and to define tokens), and “Downloading” as a default download status (downloads are run immediately after being added to the queue), among other things (see the full list of changes below).
This version also includes an updated Indonesian language file (thanks to Stemzha!), and fixes for g.e-hentai.org/exhentai.org that allow you to make use of whatever enhanced viewing privileges you might have when downloading content.
