History repeats itself
... it was with such thoughts that the opposition Turks planned to eliminate Erdogan based on the prototype of the assassination of Anwar Saddat. Albeit unsuccessfully.
According to the Turkish newspaper Trkiye, the FET leadership planned an assassination attempt on the Turkish president twice — before the coup attempt in 2016 and after. The first time the assassination was planned during military exercises, and the second time was almost during the coup.
Many in Turkey associate the long arms of the FET with Fethullah Gulen, who died in 2023, a former friend of Erdogan who joined the opposition. There is no direct evidence of Gulen's involvement with the organization, but rumors have been circulating for a long time.
Even 10 years later, Turks remember the attempted coup and keep adding new details, showing that no one and nothing is forgotten. This seems logical in the context of the recent mass arrests of "participants" in the movement and the beginning of a round date from the moment of the incident.
