Why has something natural and beautiful become such a disgrace within society’s unreachable expectations for women? Women who have hairy armpits, unlike many other controversial things in this world, is very authentic. Not only is it natural, but it also allows for women to embrace who they are. To put it very simply, female body hair is sexy and shouldn’t be looked at as disgusting or weird.
Why We Need to Embrace Female Body Hair
This may seem unimportant, or like there are many other “issues” to talk about, however, putting other women down and making women feel less attractive is where the line needs to be drawn. If you choose not to have hairy armpits, then that’s fine, this article isn’t designed to convince you to do something that you don’t want to do. This article, however, is intended for us to create a culture where women don’t feel ashamed for how they choose to represent their bodies.
It’s simple. We uplift, encourage, and respect the women who choose to not shave their armpits. We learn to complement these women and make them feel sexy and beautiful. We encourage others to do the same. Let’s make encouragement normal, or in other words, let’s make it a lifestyle. Accepting those who choose something that you don’t agree with will say a lot about your character.
Unfortunately, there will always be someone against you. But let’s focus on the women who encourage us to feel empowered. Actress Julia Roberts is a perfect example. She doesn’t try to make it a fashion statement, instead, she normalizes it by showing women that it isn’t a huge deal if a woman forgets to shave. Julia Roberts encourages us by not making it seem like an obligation, but a thing we need to accept. Unlike Julia Roberts, Miley Cyrus, GiGi Hadid, Bella Thorne, and other well-known celebrities remind women everywhere to indeed make it an intentional fashion statement.
No, it’s not about you. It’s about the thousands of women who don’t feel like they can express themselves. It’s about the women who have been laughed at, provoked, and harassed for something that needs to become normalized. It’s about women who want to have hairy armpits. Let’s forget about our opinions for a second, whether you support them or not, and try to understand differing opinions. Let’s strive to make all women feel powerful, liberating, and free.
All you women out there who either forgot to shave, doesn’t feel like shaving, chooses to make bold statements around the stereotypes, or wants to embrace the authenticity of who you are, then we need more of you. If you’ve forgotten, women with hairy armpits or hairy anything are beautiful and sexy. Let’s choose to be different, whether that’s choosing to have hairy armpits or championing those who have hairy armpits. We all have a role here, so let’s do our part to create a culture of empowerment.

Golden Globes 2019: Best Beauty on the Red Carpet

No Shave November has nothing on the new, budding women's movement, Janu-Hairy.
This month, women all over world are putting down their razors, waxing strips, tweezers, thread, lasers and everything else we use to pluck, pick and remove hair and going au naturale. For some, it's empowering to go against the grain and our society's fixation with female hairless bodies. It's natural, so if you've got it, flaunt it. For others, seeing visible armpit and leg hair still creates discomfort. When you've spent years desperately attempting to rid your body of hair, being photographed with armpit hair on the red carpet requires getting over your own conditioned disapproval and a negative response from the public.
Julia Roberts ' 1999 armpit reveal at the Cannes premiere of Notting Hill is a classic case. Although the Homecoming actress told Busy Phillipps that her visible body hair "wasn't a statement," twenty years later, she can still vividly remember the moment it happened and the resulting photo that made world news. It spurred that much conversation.
"When I was a younger woman, I thought it was a statement," Busy said. "I thought it was really punk rock and cool."
Two decades later, however, millennial and Gen-Z women are agreeing with Busy. Fueled by the ability to be as authentic as possible, these stars consistently bring their cultural beauty traditions, statement-making fashion and body hair to the red carpet. Unlike Julia's accidental reveal in the '90s, Miley Cyrus , Paris Jackson , Amandla Stenberg and more are making a very clear statement in the era of #MeToo and other pushes for female equality: Body hair is a natural, and thus should be accepted. In fact, it's cool.
In honor of the sentiment and Januhairy, check out what the stars that are getting behind the push for body hair acceptance below!
Cheers to the woman that started it all. Back in 1999, the Homecoming actress took to the Cannes Film Festival red carpet wearing a red sequined
Before it was cool, the '90s sitcom star revealed her body hair on the Golden Globes red carpet with pride. Pulling her dress up and laughing, the actress let it be known that she's not ashamed.
This singer does not care about shaving her legs. Last year, when asked how her partner Simon Konecki feels about the star gave the ultimate clapback : "He has no choice," she retorted. "I'll have no man telling me to shave my f**kin' legs. Shave yours."
The Hate U Give actress, who doubles as an activist, made a major statement at the European premiere of the movie late late year. In a beautiful black gown and flawless beauty, the star posed to reveal the natural hair under her arms.
Everyone was talking about Michael Jackson 's daughter's bold style at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, which included a Dior ensemble and body hair.
The star has demonstrated herself as a champion for the movement by posing on the carpet with visible body hair multiple times and posting the iconic 1999 photo of Julia Roberts on her Instagram. She captioned the photo, "Beautiful in every way."
While the CFDA Fashion Awards is one of the top fashion events of the year, the Girls actress made a serious statement about her style by wearing her armpit hair with pride in 2015.
Her sister agrees, revealing her body hair at the 2017 Golden Globes.
If you're joining the movement, at least you know that Hollywood is on your side!

Now Reading Photos Celebrating Natural Pubic Hair (NSFW)
It had its heyday in the '60s and '70s, but natural female pubic hair has since fallen out of favor. So much so that, apparently, there are now sexually-active hetero men who say they've never seen it . To celebrate the neglected bush, artist Marilyn Minter spent six months photographing it, asking "all kinds of women, [with] different hair colours, different textures, different skin colours" to grow out their natural hair down there and bare it for her camera. The photographs Minter took are collected in her first book, Plush .
"Over the last decade, pubic hair has all but disappeared in popular culture (which is fine)," Minter explains to us, "but I became interested in showing beautiful images of pubes as an alternative perspective. I suspect the no-fur trend might be a fashion, so I wanted to remind younger generations that fashion is fleeting, but laser is forever. Do whatever you want — just don't laser!"
The 70 full-colour images in Plush , released in a limited run by Fulton Ryder Press to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach, make an eloquent visual argument against lasering — and maybe even against shaving. Sensuous and unabashed, they're perhaps the most powerful interpretation of "Long hair, don't care" we've ever seen. In Minter's words, "Bush is beautiful. Bring it back!" Click through for 18 of the most striking photographs from the book.
And if you're inspired here's how to grow out your pubic hair.
