Imagine waking up one day, going to school, and going to the roof of said school to pine over your lost love. Then imagine looking down and seeing a teacher's fingers get bitten off by a trespasser. Then imagine seeing that teacher literally eat another teacher. Now imagine rushing back into school to get your ex-love and her boyfriend to save them, all while fighting " not zombies ". You try to call for help, but the lines are busy because of emergencies all over town. When you finally get to a television to find out what is going on, you learn that this nightmare is happening everywhere.
Imagine all that, and you would have the beginning of Highschool of the Dead . In a new world of surviving "them", Takashi Komuro and a group of unlikely allies must learn to adapt and change so they can survive, but will they like what they become? This manga, written by Daisuke Sato and drawn by Shouji Sato (no relation), is filled with monsters both living and nonliving, loads of guns, and big breasts on nearly every woman who is old enough to have them .
The manga began its run in Monthly Dragon Age in 2006. An anime adaptation by Madhouse * with assistance from Asahi Production and Dogakobo aired during the summer of 2010 under the direction of Tetsurō Araki, who also directed Death Note for Madhouse, and would later direct Guilty Crown for Production I.G , and Attack on Titan and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress for WIT Studio. The anime was licensed and dubbed by Sentai Filmworks in 2011, premiered on The Anime Network , and even streamed on VIZ Media 's Neon Alley service for a while.
In March 2011, the manga was put on hiatus; it had fallen into Schedule Slips before, but Chapter 29 was the final nail, as it concluded the number of chapters needed for Volume 7. Reasons for the hiatus are scarce: Daisuke Sato was not doing any other writing, but Shouji Sato was still seen working on Triage X , a series that he produces by himself. Shouji was supposedly also taking his time with research on weapons, vehicles, and so on for future HOTD chapters. He even colored all seven volumes of HOTD during the hiatus. In April 2013, the HOTD team released the manga's 30th chapter, then put the series back on hiatus. Almost four years later, on March 22 2017, Daisuke Satō tragically passed away from heart disease. Shouji Sato later confirmed they would not be continuing the series, leaving it understandably Cut Short .

An adversarial attitude is a proven metric for gaining views and therefore revenue. It entices people to watch the video in order to find flaws in his argument so they can prove him wrong.

u/g-0ff , I enjoyed the hell out of HotD, but the issue I have with the fanservice isn't that it's gratuitous, it's the conflict it seems to have with the tone sometimes. Right in the first episode there's that pair of girls swearing to each other that they'll make it through this together because FRIENDSHIP! Then one gets caught and the 'friend' says something to the effect of 'let go of me, bitch ', boots her into the zombie horde, only to get caught seconds later. That's a neat little self-contained commentary vignette!
I'm no film critic, but I'm genuinely not sure what the point of having friend A's skirt hiked up while she's getting eaten alive is supposed to be. Is the dissonance supposed to underline the betrayal?
Everything you said makes sense. Self preservation instincts kick in when we are in danger and silly promises go right out the window.

Because hot girls can get eaten alive too and the scene depicts what that looks like. And the contrast between sexy and gore is always fun.

Drifters of the Dead awoke something in me atleast.
There's definitely gonna be some jimmies rustled when someone claims a fan service show is actually good. The more people try and defend a show like that the more it says the fans doth protest too much. Sometimes its fine to like a show for what it is. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece, but apparently that's not enough.
I dont think this tops Bestguyevers quality unscripted rant on this topic to be honest.

I mean, this is a show about zombies and tits. Hear me out - what if the author never intended to write any symbolism in the first place and just wanted a zombie and tit show?
You could say that about any show so I don't think it's even work bringing up. If someone can find meaning in this show them I think that's infinitely more... well meaningful.
Does it really matter what the author intended? The meaning is constructed by the reader and may or may not align with the author's intention (also it's pretty much impossible to know the actual author's intentions for any work)
You are completely free to disagree with certain or all given points if you find them unconvincing or (even better) have some counterexamples, but I think that simply stating "Stop it, you're reading too deep" is a lazy coup out.
