Irina Shidou , also known as Self-Proclaiming Angel , The Eighth Archangel of God and New Messenger of God , was a former human and Church exorcist that was ascended by Archangel Michael and became an Angel of the Lord. She is also one of Issei Hyoudou 's love interests and the right arm of Archangel Gabriel after having ascended from angel to Archangel , becoming one of the strongest beings in the Universe.
After the events involving Trihexa , Irina began to wonder why an omnipotent and perfectly good God allowed so much evil to exist in the universe. She ended up being extremely disappointed in the Problem of Evil, becoming a student of Theodicy - the desire to understand and vindicate why an Omnipotent and Perfectly Good God would allow so much evil and suffering to exist in the world.
Seeking to understand why there is so much evil in the world, she decided to go after the only person who could answer that question - God. Or rather, the Son of God . Irina then set out on a journey through creation with Issei in search of finding the Ineffable Realm where Yeshua dwelt to speak to Him.
After talking to the Savior and He merged with her for a moment, Irina became for a few moments God Himself, existing united with everyone and everything. Thus, she understood why evil and good exist, finally understanding the motivations of God. She is currently the Personal Messenger of Jesus Christ, occupying Gabriel 's former job before she took Control of the Holy System in Heaven.
She is one of the main protagonists of High School DxD: Edenverse .
Irina is a beautiful young woman with violet eyes. She has long chestnut hair that is usually tied into twintails, each held with a blue scrunchy, but on some occasions, she lets her hair down. She has a well-endowed and curvy figure, something that is most noticeable in her exorcist clothes.
She wears the standard Church battle attire, same as Xenovia's with some slight differences. After transferring to Kuoh Academy and moving into the Hyoudou Residence, she starts wearing the Kuoh Academy girls' school uniform, with black short shorts under her skirt and with an addition of white sneakers with blue accents.
When she transforms into an angel, Irina summons about two white wings on her back. However, after ascending to Archangel, she gained about 12 golden wings on her body like Michael and the other Archangels. Her soul also changed shape, becoming a powerful light capable of exploding the eyes of anyone looking at her and with a high-pitched voice that sounds like a strong radio signal.
Irina is a radiant and cheerful girl with an honest heart and genuinely kind to other people. She harbors loving feelings for Issei Hyoudou , the Red Dragon Emperor of the 21st Century.
Her most notable characteristic is her great faith and devotion to the God of the Bible , to the point that she went into a deep depression upon learning about His death during the Great War . But because of believing in His Commandments and teachings, she decided to remain steadfast in her devotion and transferred her belief to Michael and later to Jesus Christ , the Son of God. After the events involving Trihexa , which ended up causing various entities and beings from various mythologies to be trapped with the Beast of the Apocalypse, she ended up wondering why God allowed so much harm and, although she surprised her friends, she claims that this kind of thought was inevitable and one day it would come to her.
Irina is a person totally upset with the problem of evil and would like to understand why God allowed so many things to happen in Creation, which led her to look for the Messiah of the Jews, Jesus Christ , to try to get the answer she was looking for, however difficult it was, ultimately, to accept the truth. Upon getting the answer from the Second Member of the Most Holy Trinity, she became a more serious person but still with great love and respect for the Creator. She is even more in love with Issei after he helped her on this quest.
Irina was raised by a family of Christians, which from an early age made her have great respect, admiration and love for the Biblical God , devoting her faith to Him. She was also friends with Issei Hyoudou , her childhood friend and currently boyfriend. At some point, she kissed Issei while he slept at her house. She later left Japan and went to England with her family, due to her father's work, where she trained to become an exorcist.
When she was 14 years old, Irina was granted the ability to wield Holy Swords via a Light Container and was given Excalibur Mimic, thus following in her fathers footsteps. Soon after, she ended up partnering with Xenovia , where they undertook a quest to kill the lost vampire of the House of Manthar.
Eventually, she met up again with Issei, her childhood friend, who reincarnated as a demon of Rias, which made Irina very upset initially. After learning of the death of the God of the Bible, Irina to overcome the pain of the loss of her Master, decided to pass her faith on to Archangel Michael , the new "God".
After the events that involved the terrible Apocalyptic Beast, Trihexa , Irina began to question why God allowed all this evil to exist in the Universe. Countless doubts and questions started to enter her head and she decided to ask Gabriel , the Messenger, who unfortunately couldn't answer, because even she didn't understand His Father's motivations. However, Gabriel said he knew someone who could answer Irina's question, the Jesus Christ , the Anointed One, who inhabited the Ineffable Kingdom known as the Pleroma which could be accessed through a portal near the Holy City, Jerusalem.
Irina called Issei to help her on this mission, and Issei wanting to help his childhood friend and girlfriend, joined her in this journey of traveling from Japan to the Holy City. Irina and Issei were going to Mount Sinai, the place where God appeared in the Burning Bush for the Prophet Moses, where near where God appeared to Moses was a portal that could lead to different dimensions and realms of Creation, that is why God did not allow Moses to approach the Burning Bush.
When they finally arrived in the City, they stayed there for a few days until they finally found the Sacred Mount, when they finally entered through the portal, Issei and Irina arrived in a very luminous Realm that almost couldn't be seen, and a powerful Voice inside a Whirlwind manifested in front of the two.
It was the Eternal Logos manifesting in His incorporeal form, so Irina finally asked the Enlightened One why God permits evil, and Jesus not only answered her question but decided to show the Daughter of Eden through "the Creator's own eyes" and merged with her in the middle of the Whirlpool, and Irina saw the limits of the Earth and the gates of Heaven, the myriad of beasts from the Leviathan to the smallest microbe, the glory of lightning and the darkness of the deepest caves, the pyramids of Egypt and the pagodas of China. And she knew more than anything before God could finish them all with one word, and she knew that the existence of all of them, every one, depended on the same light that shone from their wings.
Finally, after understanding all things in the Creator's own vision, Irina can understand the usefulness of good and evil and that, in the end, God's will subtly guides all creation towards a state of harmony and perfection, where good always will defeat evil. Finally, she and Issei were able to return home, but not before she asked for an autograph for the Son of God, who assumed human form and gave her an autograph in Hebrew.
After a few days, Irina was approached by an Angel who told her that the Lord had promoted her from a mere angel to the Personal Messenger of Yeshua, now she serves as God's intercessor for humanity.
Irina was originally a human being, and yet she already had great power as an exorcist. However, after ascending to Angel and then Archangel her powers became extraordinarily greater, surpassing in raw power even the Seraphims powers, being second only to the Primordial Archangels, although she may eventually become as strong as any other Archangel of God .
Transcendent Archangel Physiology : As an Archangel, Irina has virtually unlimited powers compared to other angels such as Cherubims and Seraphims. Its aura is described as an intensely pure and sacred light, able to exorcise legions of demons with its mere manifestation within a radius of 10 km. Although not as powerful as a Primordial Archangel , who is an Archangel born of the Creator's own primordial power, she is powerful enough to have authority over the celestial armies of the Seven Heavens, due to her position as Messenger Archangel, occupying the former place of the Archangel Gabriel .
Solar Empowerment : As an Archangel, she can receive power from the Sun's light, an earthly version of God's glorious light that brings hope to humanity. She becomes stronger, faster, more durable, etc. when they come into contact with sunlight, possibly unlocking abilities related to the affinity and enhancing the existing powers. She may be able to draw sustenance from the sun or even slow or stop aging.
Light Manipulation : Irina can create, shape and manipulate visible light, commonly referred to as light, is electromagnetic radiation that is visible to the human eye, and is responsible for the sense of sight. Primary properties of visible light are intensity, propagation direction, frequency or wavelength spectrum, and polarization, while its speed in a vacuum (299,792,458 meters per second/186,000 MPS) is one of the fundamental constants of nature. Visible light, as with all types of electromagnetic radiation (EMR), is experimentally found to always move at this speed in a vacuum.
Astronomical Object Manipulation : She can create, shape, and manipulate celestial/astronomical objects, such as comets, meteors, asteroids, planets, stars, constellations, moons, nebulas, galaxies, black holes, etc.
Nigh-Omnipotence : Upon becoming a primordial entity, she was given virtually limitless and barrier-free powers for what she could and could not do, with her existence transcending all Creation and existing outside and beyond space and time, being united with the entire Tree of Life, becoming Adam Kadmon . Even the Primordials , seemingly omnipotent entities who exist as boundless infinite beings wholly transcendent of all concepts of time, space infinity, and duality are presented as nothing more than infinitesimally microscopic fragments of his unfathomable self.
Omnipresence : By becoming the One and Absolute Creator Himself, Irina became one with all of creation, with literally all existence being part of Her and yet she holding all of Her essence separate from Creation . Irina can see everything and everyone from all directions and anywhere in time, whether in the past, present or future. She can see Herself through Creation as a reflecting mirror.
Omniscience : Being God, She has become omniscient, which means she knows everything that currently exists or that has not yet been written. She can see all the events of creation, the Multiverses, Universes and dimensions, to the point that only She knows the fate of everything, including the Megaverse (alternative timelines and the Multiverse). She can know every thought of every person that exists in creation, like their names, birth, personal secrets or anything.
