Update as of July 2021: This location is now a public beach known as Cedar Lake East Beach.
Though Hidden Beach has undergone a number of changes over the years, it has remained a popular haunt for Minneapolitans to escape and catch some rays. Located on the east side of Cedar Lake, the beach gets its name for the winding pathways one must take in order to finally find the place. For this reason, Hidden Beach was once a secluded getaway for those of Minneapolis’ alternative culture who wanted a beach with a different atmosphere than one of the city’s more popular summer destinations.
Notably, Hidden Beach was once the Twin Cities’ only nude beach. In recent years, the city of Minneapolis has made efforts to improve Hidden Beach’s former, more subversive image by cracking down on alcohol use. However, the beach continues to attract a colorful cast of characters, from reggae musicians to skaters to tattooed twenty-somethings.
Another distinguishing feature of Hidden Beach is its very own mud pit. Located east of the beach, visitors have the opportunity to slather themselves in the stuff and rinse off in the lake. According to local rumors, a regular known as “The Mud Man” will greet visitors hoping to get a little dirty.
Overall, Hidden Beach affords a welcome opportunity to those wishing to escape the sometimes oppressive nature of your usual beach experience, where people-watching is often just as enjoyable as laying in the sun. Plus, the beach is kid and dog friendly.

Honestly, i have been to this beach some time back, so things might have changed a bit. Remember going to this beach after some research and finding out from locals here. The place is mostly inaccessible from land and is not even seen from its neighboring beach (half moon). We were a large group of 30, including women and children. We, found it a bit strange when the boats refused to take us there, without giving much reasoning. After much haggling, one boatman accepted, but on the condition that he would drop us near the beach and would not stay. He however promised to come back to pick us up. No sooner did we reach near the shore that we realized why. This was a true blue nudist beach. We saw more than a dozen hippies, families in buff enjoying the lazy Sun. This definitely shocked us and we mostly stayed in the water, lest we might disturb them. More over, we were grossly over dressed for this beach. Keeping the obvious aside, the beach is one of the most beautiful i have seen in India. Pristine water, clear sand, no rocks and excellent for swim. So, in case you do plan to visit, beware, what you are getting into. Be safe and go in peace.
The beach is hidden away from the general public as there is no access to the beach by road. One has to either do a 5 km trek over the hilly coastline to reach the place or go on a boat. The place was infested with hippies and there was no security at all. Families- go at your own risk if you can tolerate hippies (chances of a finding a one who is high is from remote to moderate.)
You'll find only foreigners here nd one small restraunt here which has limited food options such as omlete, pancakes, fruits nd may be sambar rice sometimes. Its nice to spend some time here but get out of here before evening coz d trek from here to Halfmoon cannot be done in the night. Take a boat from Kudle beach to reach here. If you are a gang of 5 or more, you can negotiate Rs.60 per head for the boat ride.
This secluded rocky beach, east of Gokarna and Om Beach, is featured in many guides and websites as 'Paradise' Beach. Sadly, during 2011, the government decided this was no longer to be the case and destroyed all the restaurants and accommodation, but didn't bother to clean up afterwards. Now it's more like 'Paradise Lost'. It can be reached on foot, but it's an arduous trek eastward from Half Moon beach. Local boat owners will take you there at a boat charge of Rs600 each way. They insist on a minimum of 6 people paying Rs100 each, but won't drop the price if there are more passengers. Also, they won't return until it's worth their while, so when you decide you want to leave, you have to persuade others to go with you....or wait. If you do decide to go, you'll need to take your own water and food. There's a rumour of a natural spring there, but nobody seems to know where it is. An enterprising local guy brings fresh fruit and coconuts, which is very much appreciated by those who arrive unaware. Sadly, no longer to be recommended as a 'paradise' beach. Half Moon beach is much more like that.

I have been a lifelong nudist starting in grade school in the 1950’s. During the first half of my life I enjoyed nude recreation on public lands in New England, Virginia and Florida. Upon moving to Florida my wife and I became associated with the North East Florida Naturists (NFN) and we were introduced to AANR and we are now lifetime members. I have been very active in AANR and naturist concerns in Florida over the last 15 years. I’m a past president and director of NFN. Past president (three terms) and director of AANR-Florida. Current Florida Member Trustee on the AANR Board. Over the last 10 years I have worked to enhance nude recreation in Florida. During this time, we have gained a new naturist beach and solidified our hold on several others. We have gained acceptance by the State of Florida as a special interest tourist industry with a significant monitory impact. We are active members of Visit Florida and just recently received a grant from the state to develop a e-Magazine marketing tool dedicated to attracting nudists worldwide to nude recreation in Florida. During my tenure in Florida we have been able to unify the various nudist organizations to speak with one voice. In addition to AANR I’m also a member of South Florida Free Beaches, First Coast Naturist, Northeast Florida Naturists and The Naturist Society.

Northwest Florida, commonly called the Panhandle, is very different from the rest of Florida. The Florida panhandle has a lot to offer including some of the most wonderful beaches in the world that tend to be far less crowded than Florida’s east and west coast beaches. Panhandle beaches have beautiful white sand and bright turquoise water. I especially recommend Pensacola, Panama City, Seaside, Navarre, Perdido Key, Santa Rosa and Fort Walton. In addition, tucked in between these beautiful beaches are small and historic villages and sleepy fishing towns ready to be explored in places like Apalachicola and Port St Joe.

The biggest surprise of all is the Gulf Islands National Seashore just to the west of Pensacola Beach. This National park covers much of the far west shoreline of Florida and extends into Alabama and Mississippi. In the Florida portion you have beautiful beaches with aquamarine waters. There are activities for everyone from swimming, to fishing and boating; but, exploring is my favorite. There are unique displays explaining the history, culture, plants, animals and the unique ecosystems of the Gulf Islands. The highlight is stopping at Ft Pickens and viewing the fortification that has stood since before the Civil War and was an integral part of the nations defense up to World War II.

As you move inland and north the terrain quickly changes to rolling hills and hard wood forests such as Tate’s Hell, Blackwater River, Pine Log and Point Washington all of which are Florida State Forests featuring hiking, birding, camping, boating, swimming, off-highway- vehicle (OHV), biking and horseback riding.
Tucked away in the northwest corner of the Panhandle in Santa Rosa County, adjacent to Blackwater River State Forest is Hidden Lake Nudist Resort. The resort is located at 4414 Wildhorne Trail, Jay, FL. 32565. Hidden Lake advertises itself as “quiet and serene” and it is accurate on both counts. This is a place to get away and enjoy. You can fish, swim, paddle boat or just relax and do nothing.

The resort is surrounded by small family farms. There are many acres for nude hikes and a large lake for fishing, canoeing, kayaking or paddle boating. On August 17 they are planning a Build Your Own Boat competition on the Blue Lagoon.

The Blue Lagoon is the center piece of the resort. It has a sandy beach and a newly built boardwalk. The lagoon is fed by a well and the water is treated and sparkling blue. Because it is well fed it stays moderately cool in the hot Florida summers so it is very refreshing. It is a great place to float and socialize.

Hidden Lake has a large clubhouse with a full kitchen. It has an adjoining deck for lounging and even a spot to fish from. Amenities include Bocce Ball, horse shoes, corn hole and a large fire pit that is very popular with the Friday night happy hour crowd. The resort is open year around with Pot Luck dinners every third Saturday, 5K races in April and October. Their web site has a full schedule of events for the rest of the year. The resort has a large campground to accommodate rigs large and small, tent camping sites by the lake and a few rentals. I stayed in an air-conditioned one room cabin with a queen bed and refrigerator and a 12×12 screened in porch on the lake which was very affordable and comfortable.

If you just want to get away and relax, Hidden lake Resort is highly recommended.
Hidden Lake Resort, is a true gem. I have visited several times and it is so relaxing and people are so nice!!
