The Helena May is a unique private members’ social club in Hong Kong. Founded in 1916, the Club is housed in an elegant heritage building. It offers accommodation, fine dining facilities, banquet venues for weddings and private events, an extensive English books library for adults and children and a wide range of social and cultural activities for members to enjoy.
The Helena May is a piece of living history, used and appreciated by a wide cross-section of the community. After more than 100 years, it continues to honour its traditions and services in its original, central location. For these reasons, it is featured on the Heritage Trail , which links historic buildings and sites in Hong Kong to give travellers a better understanding of the growth and development of the area.
The Helena May building has graced Garden Road for over 100 years. When built in 1916, its style matched the colonial architecture around it. Architecturally and aesthetically, The Helena May displays interesting elements of the Hong Kong colonial architectural style prevailing in progressive architectural circles in the early 20th century. Today, however, the building stands out as a superb example of Hong Kong’s architectural heritage. This is thanks in many ways to the generation of Helena May members, who have worked hard to preserve the building as part of the heritage of Hong Kong.
In 1993, the exterior of The Helena May was declared a listed monument by the Antiquities and Monuments Office of Hong Kong , ensuring its preservation for the benefit of future generations. This is a significant title in development-friendly Hong Kong where existing buildings are often replaced with new structures.
Centrally located in the heart of Hong Kong, The Helena May offers elegant speciality lodging in its heritage building. If you are travelling for business, leisure or visiting friends and family, choose our shared accommodation or studio rooms. Covering a wide variety of topics from history, art, literature, culture, architecture to health and beauty, crafts and personal growth, the Club caters to the varied interests and recreational needs of its members. Some of the most popular and much sought-after events include workshops at the club and outdoor visits to unique places of cultural, historical and social relevance. The Club activities are also a unique opportunity for members to meet and interact with like-minded people and make new friends who share the similar interests as them.

Public parking is available nearby. Meter parking – Peak Tram Station Parking – Three Garden Road, Central
Take the Island line of the MTR and exit at: Central Station – Exit J2 Chater Garden
Take the Airport Express to Hong Kong Station and take a taxi to the Club from the Airport Express station, it is a short 5-7 minute ride.
Take the 15C to the Peak Tram Terminus on Garden Road and walk up to The Helena May.
Alternately, buses 23, 23B, 40, 40M etc., all stop at St. John’s Cathedral, and the Botanical Gardens/Zoo which are across Garden Road.
