The now 71-year-old was just 22 when she filmed the flick, which featured one sizzling beach scene that enabled her to give viewers a glimpse of her ridiculously toned figure.
The Age Of Consent was Dame Helen’s first major screen role and, unsurprisingly, managed to launch her to sex symbol status.
The actress played the lead role of Cora alongside James Mason, who took on the part of Bradley Morahan, and she ended up stripping off to pose nude for the passionate painter.
I was doing nude scenes from the moment I first started doing movies. I never wanted to show much boobs, but I thought, ‘Does it really matter?’ It seemed to be nothing to get your knickers in a twist over
One particularly steamy grab from the film shows the beauty giving viewers a glimpse of her bare bottom while standing with her back to the camera and gazing at her co-star, who was painting away.
Despite Dame Helen going on to flash the flesh in the likes of Savage Messiah and Oh Lucky Man! since filming The Age Of Consent, she then revealed that she’ll no longer be baring all.
The superstar previously told CBS America: “That's the good thing about getting older, you don't have to do that sort of thing anymore."
She continued: “I was doing nude scenes from the moment I first started doing movies. I never wanted to show much boobs, but I thought, ‘Does it really matter?’ It seemed to be nothing to get your knickers in a twist over.
“When I did Caligula it was ‘shock horror’, ‘triple X’, ‘only in porn cinemas’ – now Game Of Thrones is on at eight o’clock at night, and it is exactly what I did in Caligula – basically every scene is sex – upfront.”
Dame Helen certainly didn’t shy away from chatting about her steamy scenes, with her also telling The Sunday Times Magazine back in 2009: “As you get older, naked stuff gets easier...more to do with the role than what men in the audience think. There’s a liberation about it.”

First major leading role in a theatrical movie for Dame Helen Mirren (Cora).
When Mirren's character strips off her frock beside the boat and dives nude, she is wearing only a pair of swim fins. However, when she gets to the bottom, she is wearing a dive mask and snorkel.
A studio version was made with a soundtrack by Stanley Myers . The original soundtrack by Peter Sculthorpe has now been restored. The Sculthorpe soundtrack was the director's choice.

Odd movie, but definitely worth watching
I caught this rather odd but interesting movie at 1 AM on TCM one night (I guess insomnia isn't always a bad thing). James Mason stars as famous, very jaded middle-aged painter who decides to get away from the frustrations of his public life by relocating to a rural Australian island. Unfortunately, once there he finds more frustrations with his eccentric and annoying neighbors, and bothersome former associates who show up unexpectedly. He also meets a young girl (Helen Mirren) who, uh, "re-inspires" him by agreeing to pose for him in the nude. The tone of this movie is kind of strange, going from light-hearted comedy to sudden tragedy and back again. It was directed Michael Powell, after this once- respected director had pretty much torpedoed his own career with the movie "Peeping Tom", which was considered unforgivably sleazy in its era in Britain, but is regarded as somewhat of classic today. Mason (who also co-produced) plays a role similar to the one he played in Stanley Kubrick's notorious film version of "Lolita". He walks the same fine line between an erudite artist trying shake off the shackles of bourgeois morality and a mere pervert lusting after some nubile flesh. Nevertheless, this movie doesn't take the predictable May-December sex route. It may be a little "politically incorrect" by today's standards, but I actually found far less creepy than the hypocritical morality of America today (where the media goes into morally-outraged hysterics every time some celebrity nymphet appears in a racy photo or video clip, even as they show this same photo or clip over and over. . .). For what it's worth, Helen Mirren was well over "the age of consent" in real-life here, and she has the same GREAT body that would become in fixture in British art films and theater over the next three or four decades (even if she doesn't quite demonstrate the acting chops that recently earned her academy award for playing Queen Elizabeth II). This movie has its problems, including its very uneven tone, but it's definitely worth watching.

The London -born actress , now 74, has taken on a number of iconic roles, including the Queen , but at the start of her career she stripped-off for the controversial film ‘Age of Consent’. She starred in the 1969 Australian hit where she played Cora, a young model hired by an artist. The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ actress appeared nude in a number of scenes, while she was in her 20s, which was filmed near to The Great Barrier Reef.
The romance flick saw Dame Helen’s character vye for the attention of Bradley Morahan, a painter played by James Mason, before romance unfolded on the big screen and culminated in a night of passion.
She revealed the cultural shock she had while she filmed in the Commonwealth country but believed it had changed drastically since.
Dame Helen told The Australian Woman’s Weekly in 2018: “It was a very different Australia from the Australia of today.
“We were shooting on the Great Barrier Reef and women weren’t allowed in pubs!”
Despite the restrictive laws, she claimed to have enjoyed her time on-set and later described Melbourne as one of the world’s “greatest cities”.
During the trailer for ‘Age of Consent’, Dame Helen’s character Cora was described as “a girl as beautiful and as unspoiled as the world she lives in”.
Her leading man was said to be an artist who left his “conventions behind in London” and propositioned the young star to model for him.
In one scene, the painter instructs Helen: “It’s the dress, take it off.”
She removed her clothing and posed as she stood in water up to her waist.
In a later scene, while flicking through the work he had produced based-on Dame Helen’s naked body he seemed determined to paint her again.
He said: “It’s going to be the best work I ever did too, look, look at that light on there, chunks of the face need fixing a bit but no hurry, we’ve got all the time in the world.”
As she walks around the artwork, Helen frowns before she yells at him: “You only want me for the pictures!”
She races off into the night pursued by her suitor, who moments before tries to reassure her “it’s not true” before he also darts across the sand and the trailer ends.
The International Movie Database (IMDB) claimed that the film was initially released with an X-rating but later was released under a lesser A-rating after parts were censored.
This included some nude scenes being fully removed and others cut short, in addition to “some suggestive dialogue” not making the film release too.
‘Age of Consent’ was directed by Michael Powell and released in 1969, it can be watched on Amazon Prime .
