This is a cheaply made product. On day 14 or so, while attempting to secure the locking mechanism to secure the device to the front dash the tab broke while using only normal pressure. I immediately contacted the manufacturer at the email address provided in their written materials. I receive a computer generated "We have created a ticket" email but nothing since. About 20 days later I sent another email asking when I would hear back from them and have gotten no response to that either. What seemed like a great deal has turned out to be a waste of time and money DO NOT BUY.
The camera tends to come loose from the mount, so I'm always retightening it. I tried to play the videos on several computers off of the SD card, and can't make them play. Format not recognized by any of the players I tried (PC).
It's $14, what do you expect? mine came with a broken windshield mount
I did not live up to what you said it would. The restitution in very low and the night vision is not working. I think it does not work on any of the cameras . So I am now very happy with the camera.
This is a review of the DP Dashcam DP DVR120. I bought this at Fry's FYI. You can't expect much for a $20 dash cam. It has quite a few features, including a rotating LCD screen, but it fails in its main purpose: taking videos. The videos are blurry and blotchy, forget about fine detail like being able to read license plates. I plan to use this for surveillance in a confined space, but would not use it as a dash cam. If you get into a hit & run accident, you may not be able to identify the other car(s) by the video. The box claims "5 mp camera mode", which I assume relates to taking photos, not videos. The maximum setting for video is 3 mp, and I doubt if it really is 3 mp. Has settings up to 1080p, which is a joke. One surprising feature: the battery is a user replaceable lithium battery. If you're looking for a good dash cam for your car, look elsewhere. This may be suitable for surveillance, depending on your needs. Pros: - Lots of features for a $20 dash cam - Fairly intuitive menu system - Good accessories - Lightweight and compact - LCD screen is decent, considering the price of the unit Cons: - Terrible, almost useless video - Fairly useless instruction manual with very small print - My computer couldn't read dash cam via USB cable, had to remove SD card from dash cam to play videos
ok i have had my dash camera for about 8 months now, and it finally died on me. overall i was not very happy with the product. there were a number of issues that essentially can be brought together with 2 words, low quality. ill begin by listing all the problems i had and then go with the few good things that i have caught with the camera. starting off the buttons are not intuitive when you are going into the menu's the record button is your select button where i would expect the select to be the mode button. its not but thats about the most minor of complaints i can give secondly in the menus the camera says that it can run in 1080 p and to put it simply that is a huge overstatement the picture is grainy and not nice when you pull it off of the camera to view on your computer. ild say it might record in 720 but i wouldnt be surprised if it was 480. its motion recording is... left wanting. if you are driving at any speed there is no way that you can see someones license plate it just fails at it. the battery never had any real life whatsoever. it would stay on unplugged for maybe one minute but after that it would die. not to mention within a month of using the camera the battery just stopped working all together and began to expand and balloon out so to save the camera i threw the battery out and ran it solely on the power cable. this created a number of issues. firstly that the time and date are completely dependant on the battery to be stored so for the past 7 months i have had to deal with the fact that it would not record the time or date of when i was recording. also when you are recording audio on the camera it has a wine that is recorded with it and the microphone is not very powerfull either that being said it is still possible to hear conversations when recording. so the battery issue and the motion capturing issue made it so that every time something would happen i would say out loud the time date and place as well as the other persons license plate should it involve another driver. the screen in the camera does not display in the same aspect ratio that it records in. the camera says that it has 6 infrared lights to help with night vision but quite simply put you can have any number of infrared lights shooting out of the front but if your camera does not have a way to switch to a mode in which it can actually view those lights its pointless, that being said the night vision of this camera gets a 1 star for me also with the battery out of the camera it solely relies on the power from your car so unless you stop the recording before you turn off the car you will lose the last segment that you were recording. and one more minor inconvience is that the lock nut on the swivle joint jums threads so there is no real way to get a real firm camera mount on this guy and i toyed around with the idea of replacing the camera onto a diffenet mount but deciided against it just know while the suction cup is decent the mounting is not so great now the final thing that made this camera die. today when i turned on my car the camera booted up, did its normal chirp that you cant turn off and then when the camera actually started to record it was only recording in green scale. i unplugged it and replugged it back in, i tapped it a few times and did what i could but the camera itself would not record any color but green. so i decided to tear the camera down and look into why this was happening and as far as i can tell there is no damage to any of the traces on the mother boardthe solder on all of the comopents still looks fine if not a little sloppy on the flux clean up there is no indication of water damage and there is no damage to the flex cables but putting everything back together and resetting the cables also didnt help. so im fairly certain the camera unit itself has just gone out or maybe the processing chip is starting to fail who knows. now the good, having a camera, any camera even one thats this....uh poorly made, is a great idea it can help you show that you are not at fault for an accident and if you are good at math you can show wether or not you were speeding if you get pulled over and ticketed, or wether or not you ran a red light or show that someone driving in front of you had something fly out of the back of their truck and almost or actually hit your car, any camera is a great tool for making sure that you are covered in an accident or traffic violation. but this one is just bad. its functional and it worked for the 8 months i used it i just wish that it worked better. now that being said this was a gift, but i personally would not purchase this product again, nor recomend it to anyone else i would say fork over a littl bit more money and get a slightly better one if you are working on a budget, but if you can afford a $100+ one ild deffinatly go that route as thats probably what im going to do know that im in the market for another dash cam. cheers guys have a good one
Bought one at a local electronics store. Right out of the package, the display screen showed multiple white bars across the top, making it hard to see the status icons. The battery would not charge, not even enough to allow you to turn the thing off. Only way to use it was with the cigarette lighter cord plugged in, and if you turned off the car the video was lost because the camera lost power. You had to manually save video first before turning off the car. And it came with a 2G memory card, but the card was not recognized by the device and had to be replaced. The device is very cheaply built, thin plastic parts that do not fit well (battery case cover kept slipping off), screen bends and creaks when you rotate it. (Probably why the display was broken.) Returned it next day.
Poor video quality, grainy picture, and after having mine for about 6 months all the buttons have stopped working except for power, and the battery pack has died out as well. The IR feature is totally useless as well and has worse quality than old cheap camcorders that used to have the mini-vhs tapes. In my opinion this is a waste of money if you have to replace it within 6 months. You might as well pay the additional amount and get something decent.
