David Hasselhoff’s daughter Hayley has become the first plus-size nude model to grace a Playboy cover.
The curvaceous cover girl of Playboy Deutschland’s May issue described the groundbreaking event on British talk show “Lorraine” on Wednesday, the Daily Mail reported .
“I think it’s very empowering,” said the “Baywatch” icon’s progeny, 28, who has been a curve model since she was 14. “To be asked to do something like this when we’re all worried about our own self-image, it was a revolution.”
She added, “‘It was a great honor, and it’s a message for curvy women: to know they are wanted and desired.”
Hasselhoff was photographed by the legendary Ellen von Unwerth in Paris during the lockdown. The bombshell was reportedly forced to wear her own lingerie for the photo op, as the team couldn’t find clothing that fit her UK size 16-18 frame during the pandemic.
“We shot it in a very artful approach,” gushed the glamazon of the “tastefully topless” photos, which show her flashing the camera a saucy look while flaunting skimpy undergarments.
Despite oozing on-camera confidence, Hasselhoff was initially “apprehensive” about her first-ever nudie shoot.
“It was one of those moments where you have a thought bubble and that apprehensiveness,” she recalled. “But then that positive thought came back in and said, ‘Hold on a second. That’s the whole reason you’re here today.'”
Hasselhoff’s goal is to inspire plus-size people, which she says is important since there’s been a recent lockdown-sparked obesity spike.
“I get to make this movement for curve women during a global pandemic and let them know they have every right to celebrate their bodies,” she said.
As such, the Playboy pioneer hates the label “summer body” — a term for the stereotypical chiseled beach bod — because it implies that bigger figures are somehow less.
“Well, we’ve all been stuck inside for how many months now, and you’re telling people they can only get to the beach if they’re summer-body ready?” she said. “You’re summer-body ready right now.”
Naturally, Hasselhoff’s status as a body positivity icon may conflict with her dad’s stint on “Baywatch,” a show that celebrated traditional beauty standards. However, the supersize model says her journey differs from her father’s — that was “a television series” and her story is “real life.”
The youngest Hoff explained that through projecting her own “body positivity,” she’s helping open doors that didn’t exist in the red-swimsuits show’s time.
“There is so much more availability now for artists to celebrate who they are,” the voluptuous trailblazer said, adding that “media and television play a big part to help people through their own journey of self-love.”
Ultimately, Hasselhoff hopes the Playboy issue will help people embrace their bodies regardless of shape or size.
“Hopefully, it will touch somebody and [encourage them to] say, ‘I am loved, I am worthy,'” she said. “We have good body days and bad body days. Remember, our bodies are ever evolving with the life that we live. Don’t be down on yourself if you have those bad days.”
Hasselhoff is not the first plus-size gal to grace an iconic publication. Japanese-Dutch beauty Yumi Nu made history last month after becoming the first Asian curve model to appear in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.
