Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States
Haulover Beach (Nudist Area) is a safe, pristine, clean and family-friendly sandy beach in Miami-Dade County.

It's a clothing optional beach. There's nothing like sunbathing and swimming au naturel. It has clear water, friendly locals, easy access, and good 3G+ coverage.

You will find that the water here, as with many of the other Miami-Dade County beaches is clear and extremely inviting.

It's around 1.41km in length, which is medium.

In peak summer months it can be difficult to stake out a peaceful place on the sand because it's a popular spot.

This beach is also known as Haulover Park.
You can go to this beach by car. It's easy to get there, which makes it perfect for families!

There are lifeguards on duty at the beach. Be aware that this is a clothing optional beach (so there might be nudist zones).

Dogs allowed all year round.

There is parking space nearby.

Haulover Beach (Nudist Area) is a very family-friendly beach, with calm waters that are crystal clear, perfect for swimming safely.
There are lifeguards, outside shower, umbrella for rent, and chairs for rent.
Haulover Beach (Nudist Area) offers a lot of space for sunbathing and family games.

The water here is suitable for swimming.

Watching the sunset, walking, and running can be enjoyed as well.
March, April, November, December are the best months to visit Haulover Beach (Nudist Area) and other beaches in Miami-Dade County, because that's when the temperatures are warm and there's probably less crowd (not guaranteed).

Legally recognized clothing-optional beaches are difficult to find when traveling in the United States, so when I had a chance to visit one, I was excited.
Haulover Beach came highly recommended by friends who ironically, were on an extended stay in Florida from the United Kingdom. They raved about what a nice beach it was and that on their next visit over, they would plan another trip there.
So, off we went to check out Haulover on our recent trip to Florida.
Traveling down the A1A, the closest parking lot is the Marine center. Turn right and park in the lot. As the day progresses, the parking lot fills up but there are other parking lots near the Marine center that entail a slightly longer walk to the beach. Parking is by automated machine and the cost was $7.00.
After you park, look for the tunnels under the road that take you to the beach. The tunnels are numbered so be sure to remember what tunnel you took for easy return. There are also bathrooms on the beachside just outside the tunnels so be sure to avail yourself of them before getting to the beach. You must be dressed from the parking lot until you cross into the nude area .
For reference, Haulover Beach contains a regular, public, non-nude area as well as the clothing-optional portion. The nude portion can be identified by, well, nude beachgoers, but the physical landmarks are the low bamboo-type fencing on either side and the Lifeguard towers numbered 13-16. Men seemed to gravitate to the ends of the nude area, around towers 13 and 16. Towers 14 and 15 appeared to have the majority of couples.
My husband and I were there on a Sunday and the beach was crowded which we took as a good sign.
There is ample beach to stake your claim. There is a drop-off to the water where a lot of people stroll between the sun worshipers and the ocean.
If you are on vacation and would like to go but don’t have an umbrella or beach chair, no worries as there are ones to rent for the day. A beach towel can be purchased at any one of several gift shops downtown.
We were thrilled to see people of all ages and very few clothed individuals. This is a great place if you want to have a go at social nudity for the first time. The beach seems to invite people to be nude as there is no judgment and everyone is there to enjoy the sand and surf so no one is there to bother anyone. Now, there is the public access walkway you must cross to get to any of the beaches and clothed people were walking by constantly. If you feel uncomfortable having textiles gawking at you, merely move closer to the water or nearest Lifeguard tower.
If you are a single lady who chooses to visit Haulover, I recommend sitting close to one of the Lifeguard towers. There are also Beach Ambassadors like Martin, who regularly patrol the beach looking for inappropriate behavior as well as being a great resource about Haulover and nude living.
There is also the Beach Patrol where I met Xavier and talked to him for a while about Haulover. It is a haven for people who want to enjoy a clothes-free relaxing day so if there are unwarranted activities such as sex, drinking or drug use noted, people will say something. No one wants to see it closed down for illicit behavior.
There are no pets allowed on the beach so you won’t have to fight Fido for your towel or worry about stepping in something. And if you want to enjoy a beverage, bring a plastic bottle as there is a “No glass” rule so no fear of cutting yourself on broken glass either. The beach is exceptionally clean and well-maintained which makes it a shining star among public beaches. It is consistently named in the top ten recommended nude beaches to visit and it has justifiably earned that distinction.
There was a food truck conveniently located nearby so you could get a quick snack without leaving the beach which is a nice feature as you will want to spend as much time enjoying the beach as you can.
Haulover Beach was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon and we did not want to leave at the end of the day. I recommend it to newbie nudists who want to try social nudity in a safe place to seasoned nudists wanting to enjoy the sun and sand nude. As a female naturist, I felt safe enough to walk the beach by myself without anyone hitting on me or making me feel uncomfortable. Haulover has a reputation as being a clean, safe beach and it did not disappoint. The only disappointment I have is the fact that I live on the West Coast and won’t be able to enjoy it regularly. If you are a visitor, I hope you will check it out on your next trip to Florida.

Great article, Linda! HB sounds like a clean, safe, and friendly place to give social nudity a try. I’m glad they have people patrolling the beach.

Every winter, many of us in New England think often about warm-weather getaways. And which word can conjure up the most vivid memories and warmth?
How about Florida , beach, and “clothing optional.” OK, more than a few words but you get the point.
Haulover is the holy grail to nudists around the world. It makes every list when writers and nudists compile information about the greatest clothing-optional beaches you can find in the world. We recently enjoyed a visit to this beach of all beaches in Bal Harbour Florida.
We set off in our rented Hyundai to Route 1 then to 95, just a few exits down to Ives Dairy Road. Then a turn off to the Coastal Route, A1A, also known as Biscayne Boulevard.
Haulover is right down this road about five more miles. Then to a quick turnoff to a large parking area just under that tunnel that passes back under A1A.
Parking is $6.00 per car per day $7.00 on holidays. Bus route 120 from Miami Dade Transit Service gets you there for $2.00!
Grab your towel and sunblock and head towards the tunnel. You will see the sign posted right before the tunnel that reads: Warning You May Encounter Nude Bathers. Yeah, that’s for sure.
Up ahead was the red-roofed round cement changing room/bathrooms that the city provides for everyone here. The naturist spirit of kindness flourishes; how often do you see nice clean bathrooms at any public beach?
It was easy to get there, and this is saying a lot in a place like Florida where there is so much congestion that any trip involving a few exits on Interstate 95 will assuredly have the potential to almost immediately become long black parking lots.
After we hit the Haulover sands, we scouted out a good place to sit. Giant umbrellas and chaise lounges are for rent, but we simply lay on our towels and basked in the sun next to an existing open-walled beach shack.
There is a trailer here that sells wonderful foods like sandwiches, fresh coffee, smoothies, and other snacks. And the bottle of water you might have forgotten.
Many of the people at Haulover are men. But a good share of couples too. It’s a big beach and allows people to spread out over the beach evenly. Not crowded at all.
Some of the best beaches in New England all suffer from the same problem… they are not nudist-friendly, and they are too damn narrow.
Erosion has a way of doing that and we’ve had some severe nor’easters in the past few years that have taken away tons of sand. Not as much of a problem in southern Florida and Haulover is spacious, wide, and great for walking around on.
But the day was easy… we started out from our hotel, the Cambria Suites in Dania Beach . This relatively new property is staffed by friendly people, who really took care of us. Every room is a suite, ranging from 385 up to 610 square feet.
Great for business travelers (who hopefully can carve out a trip to the beach) for couples and even folks with kids who need some space from each other.
Nicely appointed with at least two flat-screen TVs, a desk with enough outlets for all your electronics, Wolfgang Puck coffee for the in-room coffee makers.
Oh, that coffee. Yeah, not only do they offer great free coffee in your room, but the café has surprisingly good and reasonably priced food. Breakfast for $8 entitles you to order an omelet or eggs in any fashion, in addition to the buffet offerings.
No cheap little plastic grape jelly packs here; they had baskets of Dickinson’s Preserves, the kind that comes in the cute little jars! And the oatmeal cookies? Grab some for the beach.
A late-night cheeseburger and fries was a great nightcap during our visit too. It’s nice that the staff is so friendly; it’s noticeable and we appreciated that whatever we asked for,
it was no problem for them. And they were facing some pretty grumpy cruise ship passengers, but through it all remained courteous and attentive to what the crowd needed during a busy breakfast rush.
The biggest source of guests for this hotel and many others is the cruise ship industry that disgorges huge ships including the Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, with 6500 passengers, and many of these cruisers need before or after cruise lodging.
Cambria drives a free shuttle van every day back and forth when ships are coming to port. Nearly all of the biggest players in the cruise ship business offers Lauderdale as a departure point, including Costa, Holland America, Princess, Silversea , and Celebrity.
Cambria Suites’ Manager Mark Akst said that they’re doing very well with the cruise business and honing their services to fit that niche.
For instance, the cafe closes at 10 am and opens back up at 5, but they will accommodate you with a beer or a coffee if you ask the front desk.
We purchased a pair of Miami cards that gave us included admission for a tour of the Florida Everglades and some discounts at local stores. Gator Park Airboat Tours included a 45-minute scenic bus down to the ‘Glades and a chance to learn some local history.
The next time you need a place to stay near the Fort Lauderdale airport, or just to get to enjoy Haulover Beach, we recommend this Cambria Suites!
