Jane Fonda may be 79 years old, but she’s still a total babe. She doesn’t just look good for her age, she looks good period. If you're in need of some solid proof that Jane Fonda is 79 years old and still hot as ever, you can see her on Netflix’s original series Grace and Frankie. Fonda plays a prim woman with a love of dry martinis, who just so happens to be dealing with her husband coming out of the closet on top of the whole old age thing. And, she looks hot the whole time because she's Jane Fonda.
Jane Fonda's role on Grace and Frankie is awesome for several reasons. First of all, it’s rebranding the way we see older women in our society. Her character isn’t slowing down at all. In fact, she's living her life to the fullest. She's dating handsome men and starting a vibrator business. Yes, a vibrator business. Also, it’s incredibly cool of Jane Fonda to embrace Netflix’s streaming service. This is an actress who has been around since the ‘60s, who's seen the rise and fall of VHS tapes and DVDs. Hell, she's even seen the rise, and fall, and rise again of the Stars Wars franchise. She isn’t mourning progression, though. She’s embracing it.
Those are just some reasons why we seriously love Jane Fonda, but another reason is because she’s one of the most beautiful actresses to ever grace the big or small screen. Below are 15 mega hot photos of young Jane Fonda. While looking at the photos, just remember that, at 79, she still looks pretty damn hot.
In this photo, Jane Fonda is clearly wearing a man’s button-down shirt… but as a dress. And, it’s totally hot. Jane Fonda looks better in this makeshift dress than most women do in actual dresses. While many women have done a twist on wearing a men's shirt as a shirt dress – Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City and Blake Lively in Gossip Girl come to mind – Jane Fonda's version of the shirt-dress remains inventive and modern since she somehow made the shirt into a strapless dress. The fact that it's somehow staying on her body is very impressive.
Also, Jane Fonda's face is just drop dead gorgeous. Like, how is someone just born which such a good face? Jane Fonda’s good face is what helped her land on the cover of Vogue twice during her short career as a model, which she gave up once her acting starting taking off.
In this black and white headshot, Jane Fonda isn’t rocking a men’s button-shirt as a dress, but she’s still incredibly sexy. Her hair is parted in the middle, with long, flowing waves that make her look like a perfect ‘60s and ‘70s beauty. That’s also the thing about Jane Fonda. She’s been beautiful for so many different decades and different styles. Exploding into Hollywood, she was famous through the mod look of the '60s, the disco look of the '70s, the shoulder pads of the '80s, and still today.
While Jane Fonda may be beautiful, she's been through some very ugly times. She was born the daughter of the famous actor Henry Fonda and socialite Frances Ford Brokaw. Frances suffered from mental instability and spent some time at Craig House psychiatric hospital. During one of her visits to the hospital, Henry Ford asked Frances for a divorce. Days later, Frances slit her throat with a razor. Jane Fonda was just 12 years old when her mother killed herself.
Oh, Jane Fonda. Between the costume, the crossbow and the big, big hair, Jane Fonda is sizzling in this promotional still for the 1968 film Barbarella. By the way, if you want to see a full movie of Jane Fonda being sex on a stick, do yourself a favor and check out this film. She’s in costumes like this the entire time, guys.
It was this film that cemented Jane Fonda’s role as a sex symbol. Though, Jane Fonda never thought too highly of being called a sex symbol. In an interview with Piers Morgan Fonda said, “I think [Barbarella] it's a charming, camp movie, not very sexy. But, at the time, many young boys had their first experiences and I'm glad of that. I think it's kind of cool that I aroused a lot of young men at that time, but it's pretty tame compared to what you see now.”
It may be pretty tame to, say, Margot Robbie in The Wolf of Wall Street, but Jane Fonda still looks pretty hot in those costumes.
While this photo may have been taken decades before, Jane Fonda looks extremely modern in this photo. She could honestly be a girl living in Brooklyn right now, who is extremely picky about her coffee beans being organic and her beer being brewed locally. But, this was years before hipsters were a thing.
Jane Fonda was part of the counterculture movement, aka the hippies, aka the original hipsters. So, Jane Fonda was an original hipster so to speak. As part of the counterculture moment in the ‘60s, she spoke out in support of the Civil Rights Moments. She later spoke out in opposition to the Vietnam War, becoming one of the famous faces associated with this movement.
Jane Fonda remains an outspoken activist today and was even spotted at the 2017 Women’s March. However, she’s admitted to regretting some of the things she’s done in terms of activism stating, “I would like to say something, not just to Vietnam veterans in New England, but to men who were in Vietnam, who I hurt, or whose pain I caused to deepen because of things that I said or did. I was trying to help end the killing and the war, but there were times when I was thoughtless and careless about it and I'm very sorry that I hurt them. And I want to apologize to them and their families.”
Jane Fonda… on the beach… naked. You’re welcome, world.
Jane Fonda’s body has always been flawless. Seriously, you can’t find a single time when someone had labeled her too fat or too thin, as so many celebrities are labeled whenever they gain a pound or lose a pound. (We're really nice to celebrities, aren't we?) Instead, Jane Fonda has always been healthy and muscular looking, which is what helped her build an exercise empire.
Jane Fonda reinvented herself as a fitness guru in the ‘80s. In 1982, she released an exercise video entitled Jane Fonda’s Workout, which became the best selling workout video of all time. She went on to release 26 more exercise tapes, building a massive exercise empire. It’s easy to see how she built an empire based on exercise. I mean, if you told me an exercise would make me look like Jane Fonda, I’d totally do it.
If Jane Fonda isn’t the most chic person to ever step foot out of Bleecker Street Station, we don’t know who is. She's rocking the miniest of mini skirts with over-the-knee boots. You can, unfortunately, hardly see her boots, but you still get the picture. With Fonda’s bangs and huge sunglasses, she’s untouchably ‘60s. Like we should put this picture in a time capsule so that we will all remember how very on trend Jane Fonda looked in the ‘60s.
After becoming a sex symbol with Barbarella, Jane Fonda put her work into serious films, starting with 1969’s They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? For her performance in the film, she was nominated for her first Oscar. She would go on to win her first Oscar for 1971’s Klute, in which she played a New York prostitute. Jane Fonda’s prostitute portrayal was a complex, street-wise woman with a lot of rage beneath the surface. This was a time way before Julia Roberts made playing a prostitute cutesy and adorable.
This film still is from 1967’s Barefoot in the Park, in which Jane Fonda starred with Robert Redford. I mean, what could possibly be hotter than just Jane Fonda... how about Jane Fonda and Robert Redford? Yep, that's hotter. They may be the single most attractive on-screen couple. Yes, they were even more beautiful together than Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in Mr. and Mrs. Smith, though they were hot too.
Jane Fonda’s blunt sexuality in Barefoot in the Park happened during a turning point in Hollywood. The films made in the ‘30s, ‘40s, and ‘50s had to meet the moral requirements of the Hayes Code, which limited violence, sexuality and forbid nudity of any kind. The ‘60s were slowly breaking away from that. So, Jane Fonda wearing just a bra in this scene was actually a big deal, because just ten years before you would have never seen a woman do such a thing. 1967 also saw the release of The Graduate, another movie with highly sexual themes, and Bonnie and Clyde, the film that revolutionized violence in cinema.
This photo of Jane Fonda screams Old Hollywood glamour. With her Veronica Lake curls and come-hither look, Jane Fonda looks like she’d play the femme fatale role in a '40s film noir. But, unfortunately, film noirs were on their way out when Jane Fonda was coming up in Hollywood. In the '60s and '70s, the film industry was rapidly changing to keep up with the counterculture movement of which Jane Fonda was involved. The anti-establishment youth didn’t want to see escapism musicals or war dramas anymore. And so, the film industry focused on gritty, real-life stories instead.
However, Jane’s father came up during a time when Hollywood was still making those musicals, war movies, and anything promoting the American Dream. Henry Fonda started starring in films in 1935, so he was around during the classic Old Hollywood days of moviemaking. He starred alongside many of Hollywood’s most notorious leading ladies like Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Davis, and Audrey Hepburn. While he’s one of Hollywood’s screen legends, he didn’t win an Oscar until 1981’s On Golden Pond. So, oddly enough, Jane Fonda beat her own father Henry Fonda to winning an Oscar.
One more from Barbarella, because why not? Jane Fonda, obviously, looks like a total smokeshow. She looks like a futuristic astronaut Barbie Doll, so what's not to love? While Fonda’s gorgeous face and sexy outfit may be what your eye immediately goes to, we have to point out Jane Fonda’s hair. It is the biggest hair of all time. It is the full-on ‘60s big hair. Like, you could almost see this Jane Fonda hooking up with Mad Men’s Don Draper, right? Also, Don Draper would have loved Jane Fonda.
Jane Fonda, however, was not the first choice for this role. The role was offered to both Sophia Loren and Brigitte Bardot, but, as fate would have it, the role eventually went to Jane Fonda. At the time of filming, Jane Fonda was married to the director Roger Vadim. Roger Vadim was previously married to Brigitte Bardot. Vadim had actually directed Bardot in And God Created Woman, the film that launched Bardot into sex symbol history.
Okay, so let us get this straight. Roger Vadim was married to BOTH Jane Fonda and Brigitte Bardot… and he directed them in their super sexy movies. Roger Vadim seemed like he was one lucky guy. Or, maybe he was unlucky, as his marriages to Jane Fonda and Brigitte Bardot both ended in divorce.
This might be the realest photo of Jane Fonda that we included. She just looks like she's 100% in her element.
While Jane Fonda is "in bed," this obviously isn’t exactly what Jane Fonda looks like when she’s lounging in bed or when she just wakes up. But hey, no celebrity ever really does a bedroom photoshoot like they’re really in bed. But still, Jane Fonda’s low-key makeup and shorter hair both bring out what a natural beauty she is. Oh, and the button-down shirt again. No one wears them better than Jane Fonda. Though, what we really love the most about this photo is that Fonda is reading the paper, because you know that political activist Jane Fonda definitely stayed up to date on the news.
Jane Fonda was married to her Barbarella director Roger Vadim from 1965 – 1973, and, in that time, they had one daughter who they named Vanessa. In 1973, Jonda then married Tom Hayden, a political activist and politician. The couple later divorced in 1990. In her most publicized marriage, Jane Fonda married Ted Turner, the founder of CNN, in 1991. It was then that Jane Fonda retired from acting.
While we already included a few photos of Jane Fonda in her space galaxy costume, this photo of Jane Fonda sans sexy space costume is seriously hot too. And, of course, she’s still rockin’ that huge hair. Also, if Barbarella was a movie that came out today, there totally would be at least one sequel, right?
Well, it seems sexy space costumes can't always save a marriage. Jane Fonda and Ted Turner divorced in 2001, but she stayed true to her retirement from acting for quite some time. It wasn’t until 2005’s Monster-in-Law that Jane Fonda returned to the big screen. This is maybe one of the most curious moves in Jane Fonda’s career. I mean, you retire from acting and then, 15 years later, you return… for Monster-in-Law? FOR MONSTER-IN-LAW?! This is a woman who has two Academy Awards and it was Monster-in-Law that enticed her to come back to Hollywood. We’re just… so confused.
Jane Fonda may have been a sex symbol, but that doesn't mean she wasn't also adorable. Look at her! She's cute as a button. Also, where did that phrase come from? I've never seen a button and been like, "This button is so cute that I want to cry." Something like cute as a puppy or cute as a cat fitting into a small space would be more fitting. Anyway, Jane Fonda was as cute as a button. Jane Fonda’s bright eyes, big smile, and button nose blessed her with classically good looks, but it was her internal grace and confidence that pushed her into the sex symbol category.
We’re still confused about the whole Monster-in-Law thing, but we’ll admit that Jane Fonda was returning to Hollywood during a weird time. She was older and Hollywood has notoriously been unwelcoming to aging actresses. Jane Fonda went on to appear in Georgia Rule, Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding, and This Is Where I Leave You. In other words, Jane Fonda was starring in… flops. It pains us to say that, but it’s true.
Jumping back to Jane Fonda's more sultry side, this feels very Old Hollywood. I mean, she even has a cigarette holder like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Whenever anyone uses one of these cigarette holders, they automatically feel 100% more Old Hollywood. Besides her va-va-voom makeup and hairstyle upping the sex appeal, Jane Fonda’s dress also fits her like a glove and hugs her natural hourglass frame. The fact that Jane Fonda can look so classic and glamorous at times, and also so naturally beautiful and low maintenance other times is a true testament to her looks.
In 2012, Jane Fonda finally found a way to make her comeback. She joined HBO’s The Newsroom. Oddly enough, she played the millionaire owner of a news company that seemed very similar to Ted Turner’s CNN. Jane Fonda isn’t the only older actress who has found success on the small screen. Jessica Lange starred in several seasons of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story and is currently starring in season one of Murphy’s Feud. Both Susan Sarandon and Kathy Bates also star in Feud. Honestly, with how great television has been lately, these ladies are better sticking to the small screen.
You already know what movie this one is from. The big hair, the sexy outfit… it’s Barbarella, y’all! We couldn’t resist adding just one more photo of Jane Fonda from Barbarella, because duh. I mean, you're not sick and tired of seeing Jane Fonda in Barbarella costumes, are you?
While Jane Fonda was clearly not the first blonde bombshell to take over Hollywood, she was one of the most successful. It has been a long tradition of Hollywood – and the world – falling head over heels for a blonde babe. Before Jane Fonda, there was Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield (who could have literally been Marilyn’s sister), Mae West, and Veronica Lake. Way back in the day, Hollywood’s obsession with blonde hair started because it popped better than brunette hair in black and white movies. But, blondes have stuck around.
In her two most recently television roles – on The Newsroom and Grace and Frankie – Jane Fonda has starred alongside Sam Waterston. In The Newsroom, their characters become unlikely allies, while on Grace and Frankie Waterston plays the character who her husband left her for. So, very different relationships.
We’ll end with this photograph because Jane Fonda looks like she’s in her natural element. She’s relaxed, comfortable, and wearing a men’s button-down shirt, which seems like it’s her favorite thing to wear.
What really stands out about this photo is how timeless Jane Fonda looks. Yes, that is a face that was beautiful in the ‘60s, but if anyone saw this face walking down the street in 2017, they would still think she was beautiful. She is the definition of a timeless beauty, as you’ve seen in these photos. She was could rock the glamour looks of Old Hollywood, the mod looks of the ‘60s and the relaxed looks of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Nothing has ever looked bad on Jane Fonda.
Jane Fonda has been a two-time Academy Award-winning actress, an outspoken political activist, and the face of an exercise empire. She’s lived a lot of different lives already, but she shows no signs of slowing down. At 79, Jane Fonda is just as beautiful and just as ambitious as she’s been her entire life. She won't stop and that’s the hottest thing about Jane Fonda.

Jane Fonda has revealed that she got drunk on vodka before filming the iconic nude scene in Barbarella.
The star claimed to be terrified of stripping off in front of the crew, but went along with the act as her husband at the time, Roger Vadim, insisted that she starred in the movie.
In the opening scene of the film, Jane can be seen laying naked on a glass plate as it to create the illusion she was spiraling through space.
Now, at 80-years-old, the mother-of-three has opened up on the scene in her new documentary Fonda In Five Acts.
She said: ‘I was drunk. I drank so much vodka. It was so terrifying for me.’
Jane then went on to reveal that despite filming the scene, and getting the awkward moment over and done with, she then found out it had to be re-shot because a bat flew into shot.
This meant that by the time they got to her second take, she was already hungover.
The star then went on to discuss how she was elated to have lived to see the #MeToo movement.
Chatting to CNN, Jane revealed just how important the moment was for her and how she never thought she would live to see something like it.
She said: ‘We realised for this movement to really matter and for it to work, we have to stand at the margins with our sisters in all sectors. Working women, hospital workers, home care workers, so vulnerable all by themselves in homes, restaurant workers and that’s what we are doing.

‘We are traveling around lobbying to do away with forced arbitration, non-disclosure agreements and unequal pay.’
She added: ‘Equal pay is the major step we have to take to stop sexual harassment. The two go hand in hand. When we are paid decently, a living wage and we are treated with respect, the whole behavior changes.’
