Shame on a hotel for giving people with reservations a room. SHOCKER.
A place where people from the hotel industry can come and share the stories of the things our guests do and say that make customer service the hated job that it is.

Oh boy of there were a contest of stupid shit I got yelled at for it’s this one:
I apologize in advance for any mistakes, I’m on mobile and the lag is atrocious.
My city has been hosting the playoffs and conferences for the past few weeks so we’ve some pretty rough flips. I 100% do not blame housekeeping for dropping rooms to clean.
Our sister property had it worse and was having to relocate reservations to a brand that only has queen beds. Unfortunately this lady was chosen and she was not happy about receiving a queen. So my sister property’s night audit checked in with me to see what my inventory was looking like but all we had were double queens. She said she was waiting for No Queens McGee to call back to inform her that she did not have any luck with us.
As the night goes on this lady walks in gives me her last name to check in to her reservation.
Boobra: I’m sorry, I don’t have anyone by the last name McGee. When did you book the reservation?
No Queens McGee(NQM): um I was supposed to have a reservation. She was supposed to make the reservation over here. That’s what she told me.
By then I caught on to who was standing I front of me and I inform her that the sister NA was trying to reach out to her to let you know we only had doubles.
NQM: that’s weird I just called reservations he said y’all had a king.
Boobra: Well it looked like there may have been a cancellation but the king got booked up quickly. I have no other kings to offer you.
She then starts going off how shitty we are and that she called the hotel and some man said we hand kings, meanwhile I’m looking around me tryna find this mans she said she spoke to. (Both her and I know she spoke with reservations)
I apologize to her but reminded her that because she didn’t not have/make a reservation with us the room type she was wanting was not guaranteed to her, regardless if she called to confirm that we have it. She then states she wants to speak to manager. I said her problem with her original reservation is with (insert sister property name here) and you can speak with their manager but since you did not a reservation with us we cannot help you. She did not like that response and demands I give her my name. I happily give her my first name but of course, that’s never enough for Karen’s because they’re seeking more than giving the information to my manager or corporate. I told her my last name is irrelevant, I’m the only Boobra here. You don’t have a reservation with us. Have a good night.
She walks away yelling because she didn’t like that That I didn’t give her my last name. It’s okay girl my boyfriend don’t wanna give me his either. only to come back 5 minutes later to snap a picture of me and leave.
I hope she enjoys my “you’re dead to me” face I gave her. should have asked her to send it me.
Anyway I called security to kick her out as she was hanging around in the driveway and she was not a guest. 2 can play the petty game.
I read these stories all the time and I'm just dumbfounded at how rude these people are to you all. I'm so sorry for them. I have always treated the FD people I encounter at hotels with the utmost respect and kindness, and in turn, they have always bent over backwards to help me when they can.
I remember checking into a hotel with my wife years ago, we were going to be staying a while (work trip) and when we got there they told us that our handicapped accessible room had some type of water leak in it, and that it wasn't available. My wife is in a wheel chair, so it's an issue if it's not a handicapped accessible room. They then looked at me like I was about to catch fire and throw lava balls at them.
Instead, I just said, "Wow, that really sucks, well, do you have anything available on the first floor? the main thing is just not to have stairs, and I prefer the first floor in case the elevators go down or there is an emergency."
The FD agent looked at me like I was an alien or something for not blowing up at them and being friendly. And he said "Of course sir, you know what I'm going to do, I'm going to upgrade you to a Suite we have on the first floor for your stay at no extra charge!" I was like "Awesome, sounds like a plan!"
I got an awesome room, nobody got yelled at, and the room even had an exterior entrance, which I thought was weird but it ended up being SUPER convenient for getting my wife in and out.

Had a guy stop to check rates one night, I let him know we only had our king jacuzzi suite available for 179.99 a night. He immediately turned red in the face and said I don’t need the jacuzzi suite, just a regular room and I’d need to give him a better rate than that. I obviously don’t negotiate well under pressure because I responded with “ok I tell you what, for you it’ll be 179.99 because I have 1 room left and it’s my most expensive room. He yelled a little and went to shop around. About 20 minutes later he called and asked if it was still available, none of the other nice hotels had rooms left at that point. I said it is, would you like to reserve the room with a credit card? He said no he would be over soon, I let him know I can’t guarantee him the room without a credit card. He yelled a little more and still declined reserving it.
A few moments later I had a guy come in, asked him how his day was. He said his week had been awful, he and the wife were in the mountains on the other side of our state, their truck broke down on the first day there and wasn’t fixed until the day before they left. Still got to see a mountain, but didn’t get to do most of what they wanted to do.
He said the price of the king jacuzzi suite was more than he could afford and said he needed to go somewhere cheaper. I dropped the rate from $179.99 to 90 dol
