Harley Quinn's LGBT moment between the titular character and Poison Ivy creates a major problem for the gang.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the Harley Quinn Season 2, Episode 7, "There's No Place to Go But Down, " now streaming on DC Universe.
While the first season of Harley Quinn teased something more than friendship for Harley and Poison Ivy, this season toned down the foreshadowing down a bit. Instead of relationships, Harley's been more laser-focused on killing off the Injustice League to rule new New Gotham.
However, in the latest episode, "There's No Place to Go But Down," the series picks back up on their LGBT thread and while fans are ecstatic Harley and Ivy finally get their big kiss, there's one major problem: Kite Man.
Season 2 has Ivy head over heels in love with him, so much so they're engaged and wedding planning . And it's not reflex or a desperate move for companionship, Ivy truly loves him. When she takes the mic at the talent show in Bane's Pit, Ivy reveals to the inmates in a most vulnerable moment, she's truly happy because of him and couldn't ask for a better soulmate.
Which is why when she and Harley escape and lip-lock in a passionate moment, it catches viewers off-guard. Had Ivy and Kite Man been experiencing problems, it would be easier to understand. But she's wrapped up in a future with him and Harley's obsessed with owning the town, so it comes left-field. And this is where the issue arises because Kite Man hasn't just been good to Ivy, he's been great to Harley and her team too.
Kite Man helped them in the Freeze debacle when he had to fly a special flower over to save Nora so they could go free. He also helped Harley steal Firely's flame-thrower and in fact, he's saved Harley and her crew on quite a few occasions. And it's genuine as he goes out of his way, sacrificing to do so because he knows they're like family to Ivy. It's what makes this cheating moment so hard to stomach; he's not the annoying, macho guy from Season 1.
Immediately, the ladies realize their smooch has created a massive problem because Kite Man isn't someone who should suffer infidelity. He was already insecure and had confidence issues, but admittedly, he should have sensed something coming when Ivy refused his first proposal. Still, when she accepted the second time around, she pushed for it and it felt organic, so this really is a tad cruel. Fans knew it was coming as the showrunners Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker have made it clear they were always angling towards this moment , but most people thought it would happen when Ivy and Kite Man separated.
Right now, it's an injustice and not something we can condone. Fans clearly want Harley and Ivy to get together, but it shouldn't come at Kite Man's expense. They're torn on what to do now as the episode ends right after they kiss, with both women having a perturbed look on their faces. Acknowledging their feelings is right but the way they did it is wrong. Hopefully, they tell Kite Man the truth sooner rather than later as he's all in and ready to walk down the aisle, not knowing Ivy's betrayed his trust.
DC Universe's Harley Quinn stars Kaley Cuoco, Lake Bell, Diedrich Bader, Alan Tudyk, Rahul Kohli, Christopher Meloni, Tony Hale, Ron Funches, Wanda Sykes, Natalie Morales, Jim Rash, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Alexander and J.B. Smoove. New episodes air on Fridays.
I'm a former Chemical Engineer. It was boring so I decided to write about things I love. On the geek side of things, I write about comics, cartoons, video games, television, movies and basically, all things nerdy. I also write about music in terms of punk, indie, hardcore and emo because well, they rock! If you're bored by now, then you also don't want to hear that I write for ESPN on the PR side of things. And yes, I've written sports for them too! Not bad for someone from the Caribbean, eh? To top all this off, I've scribed short films and documentaries, conceptualizing stories and scripts from a human interest and social justice perspective. Business-wise, I make big cheddar (not really) as a copywriter and digital strategist working with some of the top brands in the Latin America region. In closing, let me remind you that the geek shall inherit the Earth. Oh, FYI, I'd love to write the Gargoyles movie for Disney. YOLO. That said, I'm on Twitter @RenaldoMatadeen . So holler.

DC Comics artist Chad Hardin reveals the original, unedited version of Harley and Ivy's first in-continuity kiss from 2017's Harley Quinn #25.
Harley Quinn artist Chad Hardin has shared the original, unedited version of Harley and Poison Ivy's first in-continuity kiss -- revealing that the moment underwent a small but very significant change prior to its publication.
While Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy had already been romantically involved in out-of-continuity DC Comics projects, even sharing a kiss in DC Bombshells , the pair didn't have their first in-continuity kiss until 2017's Harley Quinn #25. More specifically, in the issue's "Surprise, Surprise, Part One" story by Amanda Conner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Hardin, Alex Sinclair and Corey Breen, Ivy takes Harley in her arms and kisses her on the cheek.
As part of its Pride Month celebration, DC recently shared the panel containing the kiss on Twitter as part of a discussion regarding queer-coded characters. Hardin responded to the tweet , writing, "I have the unedited art if you want to post that too." Shortly thereafter, Hardin posted the art in question , writing, "It is always easier to ask forgiveness than get permission."
Hardin's uncolored art reveals that, originally, Ivy was supposed to kiss Harley on the lips. This was presumably changed at the behest of editorial. Strangely enough, however, while the type of kiss was changed, the risqué placement of Ivy's left hand was left completely intact.
The romantic pairing of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy remains a popular one among DC fans, and has been prominently featured in DC Universe/HBO Max's Harley Quinn animated series. Their romance was teased throughout Season 1 before finally being made official in Season 2. What's more, the show's Harley/Ivy romance will be the subject of an upcoming comic book limited series and, of course, will continue into the upcoming third season.
