First. It is watchable. Second. It is watchable ONLY because they stole from the best. Actually, they stole from many of the best. The biggest victims here are the two movies, SABRINA (1954 & 1995). The story of a nobody girl who has a crush on a rich and irresponsible playboy, gets a makeover (which turns her into a sophisticated beauty), and then suddenly, the playboy and his older brother are competing for her affections. SABRINA. EXCEPT, in this story, one of the brothers supervises her makeover so that she can be used to impress wealthy clients (MY FAIR LADY/PYGMALION, and PRETTY WOMAN). The makeover turns her into a bewitching beauty which is a complete surprise to everyone involved and the brothers are having a hard time keeping things professional. At first, {one of the brothers} and the {nobody girl / sophisticated beauty} are attracted to each other but also LOATHE each other (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, NORTH AND SOUTH). Mounting Romantic & Sexual Tension ensues. Mix all these ingredients together, add in a dash of confusion & kissing with both brothers, then top it all off with a hot and steamy bedroom scene (I'll let you guess which brother makes it to the "lady-garden" first) - and you have your typical Harlequin Romance Movie. Sadly, it doesn't work as well as the originals that this story was stolen from. In fact, instead of a cohesive and engaging story, it comes across more like the Frankenstein Monster - a creature that was stitched together from the assorted parts of dead folks. All of which in their life and prime were vital and beautiful, but after being dissected and rehashed have lost their originality and timelessness and become a cheap and overworn copy. SPOILER ALERT. IF YOU DON'T LIKE DETAILS SHARED STOP HERE. THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH SPILLS SOME BEANS. The sex scene was a particular surprise because none of the originals went this far. In the lead-up to this scene, I was expecting the male lead to declare his undying love, apologize for his boorish behavior so far, and then ask for her hand in marriage. But instead, he grabbed her up roughly and proceeded to have his way with her without so much as a word of "like" let alone "forever love". And like the ninny she is, she didn't put up any kind of resistance to a man who had treated her like a piece of merchandise from the start. It wasn't exactly a sexual assault, but simply a rude man and an equally rude, but weak woman. I was flabbergasted! This movie - unlike ALL of the originals - never communicated any kind of lasting love or deep passion. The male leads were both damaged and unprincipled men. The female lead couldn't make up her mind between the brothers and seemed available to either one of them, depending who made the fie Personally, I thought the heroine should have dumped both self-absorbed brothers and gone to law school, but I got the feeling that she didn't have the inner strength to do such a sensible thing. And if she had done so, then where would all the *fun* have been? My first choice, though, would be to skip the counterfeit altogether and spend your time with the original stories that are all masterpieces. People with lesser talent shouldn't tamper with works of genius. It seldom works as well as the original. The best thing about this movie is an appearance of an elderly but still beautiful Dyan Cannon as the mother of the two ne'er-do-well brothers. It was looking at a museum piece. She really looked great.

It was good for the age of the film. I feel as if it was made now, it would have been closer to what actually happened in the book it was based on. Sadly, I haven’t read the book it’s based on, but my experience with the book versus the movie, the book is always better and the movie is always lacking. I’d like to say that I’m disappointed that this is the only one of Diana Palmer’s books that was made into a movie, because I’ve loved all of the books of hers that I’ve read. Granted, nowadays the feminists would hate all of her books and there would probably be some sort of protest if more were turned into movies because how the male lead behaves.

I've watched a few of these harlequin movies for something to do. The others were mainly dumb. This one I really liked. The actress was appealing, the handsome brother from London was quite attractive, and the conflict over the vineyard and how it would work out, while a bit predictable, added a subplot to keep it interesting. I didn't really see that she was in love with her boss, though I guess that was the idea at first, that she had a crush on him. He was like a handsome child, though. I didn't see his appeal. He was goofing around, letting her do all the work, overlooking her, dating other women...what would she see in him? Just his looks? I'd see him more as a pain in the butt boss whose work I had to do because he was incompetent...or at least uninvolved. The brother from London was appealing except for his constant interest/disinterest flip-flopping as he tried to "run from everything he loves." A bit trite and predictable, as one might expect, but I still enjoyed it.

Attractive characters. Snappy and amusing dialogue. But like most good movies, there is a poor ending. Nonetheless, I viewed it multiple times.

If you like Harlequin movies that always have a happy love interest ending, you'll probably like this one. For me it was just ok. BUT, when Dyan Cannon came running out to meet Regan (Jonathan Cake) I thought it was going to be his sister and then he called her "mother!" As soon as I saw her face and knew immediately it was Dyan Cannon, who I have enjoyed in so many movies (I'm in my 70's), my immediate thought was that she has had the best face lift I've ever seen in a Hollywood female movie star! She's 80 years old (as of this date) and her figure looks as great as it did in the sixties. WOW! She was worth seeing to make the movie tolerable for me. Cheers Dyan!

Really enjoyed this movie although at times the acting was terrible, but I kinda expected that so it didn't bother me so much. These movies are like that... I am just a sucker for romance and I remember these stories from years ago that I was too young to be reading but read them anyway. This is a nice story line if you do not overthink it and just enjoy a nice fictional romance.

Jonathan Cake is eye candy with a Brit's accent. The filmography in the vineyards was just beautiful. Two brothers after one girl is always a good story line...a girl's story who was a Cinderella in the Twenty-first century. Great movie. The title of the movie and the cover photo shot has nothing to doing with the movie. Diamond Girl? Watch it.

Harlequin romances are all about the pretty unnoticed inhibited normal girl with an attitude that has never met the man of her dreams and tries unsuccessfully to control her emotions. This is claire. Her color seemed a little pale to me and the film seemed amateur at first but after awhile didnt notice this. This is one of my fav harlequin movies.
