An epic fantasy adventure for monstergirl lovers, and those who enjoy harems with happy endings. David was a member of the Golden Cross, a four-man mercenary band with his brother and two friends. I'm really glad that I stumbled upon this story and choose to take a shot at it. Harem Heroes: Heaven's Gold Spear is a story set in a fantasy world split between humans and monsters who have been turned turned into cute anthropomorphic monster girls. However, it manages to distinguish itself from its peers with a couple of crucial points: 1. As mentioned in the title, the author spends the majority of the time crafting the body of the story. This allows for the novel to be a good stand-alone adventure story unlike many other similar novels where the "story" is just sex scene after sex scene stringed together by flimsy excuses for plot. So, this is a pretty great adventure story set in a monster girl fantasy universe with a couple of intimate moments sprinkled in to accentuate the story, not the other way around. Additionally, this story draws upon Kenkou Cross's monster girl universe as inspiration for its world setting so the world is already extremely well developed and built out. 2. The main character isn't helpless nor is he overpowered. In many harem stories, the main character is usually either a weakling that needs to be protected (somewhat understandable in an universe where some women who can bench trucks and decimate armies with their spells) or Chad "Mchugedick" Thundercock who slays women with his penis and words while slaying other enemies with his sword and sorcery. David, the main character, falls in the middle of the spectrum. He's not a a pure hearted hero with a heart of gold nor is he a smooth-talking rogue. In terms of personality, he's more of an average guy that just wants to find his old adventuring buddies and will treat people nicely if they are friendly to him. He is relatively strong compared to an average adventurer/wizard and can stand his own ground in a fight without relying on his monster companions but is nowhere near the levels of army-destroying, world-shattering power that some protagonists in the genre has. 3. The side characters (love interests, villains, acquaintances, etc.) are all decently developed. Unlike the majority of the stories in this genre where women are just walking cardboard vaginas with either little personality differences or are just generic female character templates, most of the female characters introduced all have very different personalities. Yes, many of them do express interest in him but their relationship develops over time instead of going from handshake to sex within a couple of chapters. The antagonists all have very valid reasons for opposing the protagonist instead of being carboard cutouts. Hell, there are even other decent males in this story, which is a rarity in this genre. A huge plus is that there were enough distinguishing traits for the majority of the characters that I can actually remember them by name and describe their personality, rather than only remember characters by their physical traits and their related plot-events. Pretty much the only major criticism I have for the book is that later on (in the last 30%ish of the book), the author falls a little into the pitfall that plagues the harem genre; the lack of characterization for the female harem members. There were several characters that were introduced later on that got pretty much no development, especially the second-to-last member of the harem. To be honest, I'm still not quite sure why she was introduced since she was only relevant in a single plot point (breaking out) and all but never interacted with the main character at all. Hopefully, if this gets a sequel (and there definitely is the potential there), she'll get more development. In conclusion, comparing this story to the standard monster girl harem is like comparing a hand-baked cake with tasteful decorations and frosting compared to one of those store-bought abominations slathered with inches of icing to cover up the inferior structure with plenty of empty sugar. Harem Heroes: Heaven's Gold Spear is a monster girl story with a very solid foundation of plot and character with a few dashes of PLOT interspersed to spice things up (but not overpower the plot and story).
1) Yes, this story is based on MonsterGirlEncyclopedia (but you don't need to 'read' it to get hooked by plot) 2) really good character developing 3) pretty nice MC (rare sight these days) - not punchbag, but absolutely not OP reincarnated god\former marine (damn how i tired of this), clever but not genius. Relatable normal guy. 4) actually good plot and reasonable "bad guys" the only '-' in my opinion is rather quickly expanding harem. Overall, what we have here is one of the best monstergirl themed novels since Anonemoose's Monstergirl Saga (even better in some points). Will definetly buy next volume, if there will be one ofc
I'll warn you all right off the bat here that writing isn't my strong suit, but I just had to give a review for this. This book was an absolute fantastic read, with me giving it a 4.5 out of 5 stars! The story mostly focuses on David, a very likeable character that gets the short end of the stick quite often but winds up very lucky in the end. Another reviewer put it quite well when s/he said that he's got talent but is by no means overpowered, which makes the story even better in my opinion since I really hate the type of MC that crushes every obstacle in his/her path like a boot to an ant. All of the side characters are great, very vividly described which is a MAJOR thing because I like to know more than what a girl's hair color is and the fact she has blue eyes (I've noticed some authors just call their character by their race like a lamia or something and not offer any further detail, like that's supposed to tell us everything, it's really frustrating!) and it's easy to follow along with their goals and motivations. Spelling and grammer can be improved but it's not enough to really distract from the story, or at least it wasn't for me. I do wish more scenes would be given like more detail on *******SPOILERS******* what happened with David and Nona before the pyramid aside from the two paragraphs we got and the last meeting between David and Ophelia before he went into Vasherton. More detail at the end for the group "activity" would have been nice too. ********END SPOILER******** I don't want to say too much more because knowing me I may accidentally spoil something really important but for those of you that enjoy the harem genre I assure you that you will enjoy this book. That being said, please Olie, start writing the next one!
David is a wizard. He loses a fight, & instead of being killed, he’s petrified. Next thing he knows, it’s 3700 years later, & someone worked out how to wake him up. Shenanigans ensue as David is thrust into a new world order. First off, this book needs a damn good line edit. Then it needs a damn good overall edit. The part where our hero is blatantly raped, & the narrative twists this experience to make it all okay? That should be the first big cut. Opie Anderson, go find a male rape victim willing to speak to you about his assault. Then re-think your work.
Not bad, I guess, if harems are your thing. The story line was pretty unique, but the hokey emotional stuff was a little over the top. There were a lot of unanswered questions, so it makes me wonder about the "happy ending" (great play on words though).
A definite must-read for monster girl fans! Readers should check out the monster girl encyclopedia online for monster girl lore since this book makes heavy use of existing material.
Great story, interesting characters, and high quality romance. Other readers, be advised that this is a very adult story. If that's not a problem, give this a shot. Definitely hoping for more from Opie.
This book has nothing to do with Heaven as we know it, the pornographic sex is nauseating...if you are into magic there are better books out there...I couldn't get past the sex scenes...I'm sorry that my kindle ever saw this book.

I't was nice
The main character ad more a mentality of a 13 year old boy playing World of Warcraft than a real mercenary mage. Is personality did not reflect one of hard mercenary mage status. In my opinion. The harem part was ok
