Hanna went to the Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale, Colorado, where she graduated in 2002.

Some of her favorite films are Sunset Blvd. (1950), The Apartment (1960), Some Like It Hot (1959), and Fight Club (1999).

Screen tested for the role of Lux Lisbon in The Virgin Suicides (1999), but was too young for the part. She was cast as Cecilia instead.

Some of her favorite directors are Billy Wilder and David Lynch .

Shares her birthday with her Forrest Gump (1994) co star Tom Hanks 's.

[on working with Sofia Coppola ] Sofia was wonderful. She really listened to me and the rest of the cast when it came to working on the characters. She was also really shy and I was very young, too. It was a wonderful experience.

What I love about Sunset Blvd. (1950) is that it speaks so much to the whole industry, the loss of dreams, and how people base their entire life around this popularity or fame and beauty and then eventually that fades. And what do you have? I think that says a lot, and that's the thing that I don't like about the industry.

[on The Virgin Suicides (1999)] We talked a lot about the oppression of being female in that time specifically or in history. (The Lisbons) lived in an enclosed world and it was hard for them to understand the larger world when no one would let them view it. I think that's the metaphor for why they do it.

My family moved up to the mountains when I was two, and it was wonderful. Colorado is so beautiful and I love being able to go back there. The city is difficult to live in sometimes, but it's nice to be able to go back and be in the great outdoors. I lived in Colorado until I was 18, then I went to Hawaii for school, then I lived in LA for a year, then I lived in Vancouver for a year, and now I'm back in LA.

[on being cast in Forrest Gump (1994)] My mother didn't want to take me. It was a Sunday afternoon and she really didn't want to go, so I went with some friends and Nina ( Nina Axelrod ) ended up liking me. They called me back a couple of times and sent my tapes from Colorado to LA and they ended up casting me.

Unlike her fellow child star from Forrest Gump , the actress who played Young Jenny Curran is much easier to track down: Since appearing in the iconic film 20 years ago, Hanna Hall has played a handful of notable roles.
The Colorado native was cast to yell “Run, Forrest! Run!” when she was 9 years old. She quickly followed up with parts in a few TV movies before earning another recognizable role as Cecilia Lisbon in The Virgin Suicides .
After that 1999 movie, Hanna did another string of shorts and TV movies with some time off to graduate from high school in 2002 in Carbondale, Colorado. She then studied production at the Vancouver Film School and completed those courses in 2005.
In 2007, she appeared as Judith Myers in Halloween . As in Forrest Gump and Virgin Suicides , her character ultimately didn’t fare well.
“I definitely play a lot of people who either kill themselves or get killed or are abused in some way, which is funny because it couldn’t be further from my actual life,” she observed in a 2012 interview with Hollywood Chicago . “As an artist, you like to explore things that you might not experience in life but are interesting to you. We all have those aspects in our personality or our experience on some level.”
In terms of film production, Hanna had the busiest years of her career between 2007 and 2010 when she did some lesser-known horror movies and dramas. In 2012, she told Zap 2 It that she was putting acting on hold to focus on directing a “psychedelic absurdist comedy noir” show in California. Hanna also said it is rare for people to see her and immediately make the Forrest Gump connection.
“It’ll happen for a week, and then no one will say anything for a year. I just look a certain way that week that reminds them,” she said. “Mostly people just think I look familiar so it’s like, ‘Oh did I go to high school with you, or…?'”
These days, her Twitter account indicates she participates in traveling acts and regularly engages with fans. She turns 30 on July 9, just three days after the 20th anniversary of Forrest Gump .
