Miss Zilola

In the beginning, we were as passionate as we were in the first classes of our CELTA. We had a writing TP lesson, and it was greatly conducted by our teacher, Mrs. Aziza. During the lesson, she taught us how to applaud and praise students for their efforts. She also shared some of her own experiences to explain what usually works better and what sometimes goes wrong in a writing session. It was inspiring to see how simple techniques could motivate learners so effectively. We truly enjoyed that class very much.

However, coming to our own lessons, we struggled a bit. I cannot say I did, as I have been teaching for over two years, but the other girls claimed that productive skills were a little bit more demanding than receptive ones. This discussion opened our eyes to the real challenges of teaching writing and speaking, especially when students have limited ideas. What we found out is that organizing the classes for productive skills is a great challenge for a teacher. But our teacher tried to reveal all the secrets and shared many useful techniques and methods.

Knowing that every ease comes after a difficulty, we hope we are going to ace our course.

I think the third week went really quickly and I truly enjoyed it. All the lessons were very creative. By observing Parizodas and other girls lessons I stole some of their creative methods , which was really valuable. I’d like to implement their structure and creative formats in my own lessons.

Another thing I really appreciated is that I became closer with all of you not just as colleagues, but more like friends or even sisters.

That made the experience even more meaningful for me.

Honestly, I don’t have any negative feedback. I feel that we all improved our teaching skills, especially in developing a stronger “teacher voice.” I personally noticed that my teacher voice became much more confident and that really made me happy.d.

Miss Parizoda

This week was full of adrenalin. Because finally we learned how to conduct writing and speaking lessons. I am feeling that day by day I am becoming more engaged in teaching. At the beginning of this course, I didn’t know that we will become so close to each other. However now I cannot imagine our lessons without my groupmates, and even if one of them doesn’t come, it feels to me that someone important is missing. I was really eager to have my speaking lesson, but unfortunately I didn’t have it. But now I am realizing that actually I learned even more useful tactics by observing my groupmates and I stole some ideasJ. So I do not regret for not conducting speaking lesson. Writing lesson was good. I had the roller coaster of emotions, because I had my tp lesson to students!!! It was not difficult though, as if I know all of the students. Of course, it was not faultless. But I enjoyed doing it. And as a weekly hometask we were given two movies which had long lasting influence on me. I was familiar with one of them, however at that time I was not really mindful about it. For this time, I do not know what kind of power it was, it really hit me hard. I used to complain that schools are the best place to waste the time, and school officials try to keep students at school, while students are more willing to go to study centers. Looking at the past, schools were build, because there was demand for teaching and people went there with passion to learn. And now back to our ‘modern’ world, student run away from schools. What made students reluctant? Lessons? So who is to blame? How can we change the situation for the better? Now I have answers for all. This week changed my mindset and now my inner feelings say that “Schools are exactly your place, and if there is no one to change the world, you must be the one who makes a difference. Do not expect something from others, start everything from yourself. Help those who are in need!!!”

Miss Teacher

The third week of our CELTA course. We are already beginning to feel more confident in teaching, and some small skills or details have even started to become habits during classroom practice. Of course, we still face difficulties, but nobody is perfect—and neither are we. What matters is that we have a long journey ahead of us, where we can keep working on our weaknesses, In shaa Allah.

Well, this weekwas both challenging and interesting. It was challenging because we couldn’t always gather enough students for the demo lessons, and unfortunately some of us had to give lessons to only two students(us). Why interesting is because we worked on two very important skills--writing and speaking—which required us to brainstorm and design the most creative activities in order to make the lessons engaging and meaningful.

I realized that even something as simple as presenting new vocabulary or handing out a worksheet can be approached in a creative way. This side of lesson planning was very interesting and resourceful for me. Luckily, having a group of children to teach was a real game changer for me, because I was able to apply activities and what I had learned from observing others’ demo lessons to my own class and share my own ideas too).

I am especially grateful to Mrs. Aziza for her guidance and for helping us understand how delicate and responsible the work of a teacher is from a religious side. how important it is not to become a victim of nafs along the way, and to always think of whether what we are doing is truly halal. The films she shared with us were also as meaningful as her classes. They showed me how deeply our career growth is connected to our inner wishes and intentions. If we genuinely want to help children grow into good people one day, we must carry those values into our teaching, and continue improving ourselves on this path.
