Yesterday morning, LVMH hosted a digital press conference to kick off LVMH Watch Week 2021, its second-annual one-group trade show for releasing new watches, and we're dedicating the entire episode this week to unpacking and analyzing the news. With COVID-19 disrupting everything – including the already-in-flux watch trade show schedule – we weren't exactly sure going into the year how 2021 was going to play out, but Bulgari, Hublot, and Zenith soldiered on and hosted the event virtually rather than at the Bulgari Hotel in Dubai. While I've done my fair share of trade show coverage over the last decade or so, I decided to call in reinforcements this week: Jack and James are both on-mic with me, sharing their perspectives and opinions. Interestingly, the three brands that participated each charted their own course: Zenith came out swinging with a new El Primero caliber and a flagship sport watch (with a brand ambassador to match), Hublot continues to focus on under-appreciated technical innovations and remixing its classics, and Bulgari wasn't afraid of bling, combining its watchmaking chops with its 100+ years of jewelry experience.
