Guys Making Love With Other Guys
Bud Sex: Why Straight Men Are Having Sex With Each Other
In it, she describes the work of the University of Oregon’s sociology doctoral student Tony Silva who looked at rural white men who identify as "straight" and have sex with other men.
Of course, "being gay" is an identity , not an objective fact. It's how one thinks of oneself, just as one might think of themselves as "Italian" although they're a 3rd-generation American and only one set of grandparents had entirely Italian blood.
One of the interesting findings about straight guys hooking up reported by Singal is that an important piece of preserving these men's identities as straight was that they themselves were "masculine" in their behavior, as were the men that they liked to have sex with, thus giving it the feel of sex between straight men.
This was a particularly interesting finding to me. It exemplifies that while sexuality in and of itself can be fluid , how one identifies or thinks of themselves may be more strongly influenced by the cultural demands around them.
One reported always meeting for coffee with his male sexual partner, another said he enjoyed shopping trips or weekends together with his sexual partner. And while the caring seems genuine, it also seems to be kept on the level of "buddies " and was not allowed to reach any deep emotional level that might be misunderstood as "being in love ."
So the idea of men occasionally having sex with other men is not what is abhorrent to the greater world, but rather a man acting in any way that would be considered traditionally feminine.
I have heard many men over the years laugh about a camping trip or being drunk and one of them giving the other a blow job . In the discussion, the sexual exchange is usually treated as a routine thing that is liable to happen in those circumstances.
Perhaps that explains why some straight men will have sex with other men but are terrified by romantic attractions to anyone, male or female.

Why Straight Rural Men Have Gay "Bud-Sex" With Each Other is the title of Jesse Singal’s article on sexuality in New York Magazine.
The subjects of his work were 19-year-old straight (or mostly straight) men who had advertised for male sexual encounters in rural areas.
Perhaps the simplest way of describing the findings is that the men interviewed tended to be masculine in their behavior and enjoyed sex with other masculine men, but noted that it didn't detract from their heterosexual identity.
In my years of sex therapy, I've come across men who rarely have sex with women yet identify as straight, as well as men who have sex almost entirely with women yet identify as gay, and of course, all points in between.
There was a clear rejection of men who identified as gay or displayed stereotypical feminine behavior.
These men were from rural areas, and perhaps both due to prejudice and lack of exposure, may not have been aware that gay people come in all shapes and sizes, as well as likes and dislikes.
For me, as a gay man, an important part of that is that I enjoy masculinity. In my early coming out experiences, I sometimes felt pressured by other gay men to "be myself" and stop "trying to act so butch."
But that's who I was: a masculine man. It didn’t make me "less gay" or inauthentic. Nobody was acting. It is, in some ways, the inverse of what many of these men must have experienced where cultural demands for masculinity are at odds with identifying as gay or bisexual.
Another interesting aspect of the report is that the men almost uniformly denied an emotional connection beyond friendship to each other. Yet they also reported enjoying activities together that go beyond a casual sexual hookup.
Here. we brush across a very interesting key point: our masculine society holds stereotypical female behavior in contempt.
In fact, at one point in the article, sex between men is referred to as "helping a buddy out." Helping a buddy out is what men do for each other, like changing a flat tire. Baking cookies for him, getting "all sweet for him" are things a woman would do and therefore spoken of pejoratively.
Not a terribly big deal where all the guys involved are straight. But to walk like a girl, or throw like a girl or fight like a girl that is what makes you the object of contempt. It is that which gets you labeled a sissy or a faggot, and makes you the object of public scorn.

Some male celebrities have really surprised us all – and not necessarily in a good way. Even though they are married or in committed relationships, they have cheated on their partners – with other men or transsexuals! Some of these male celebrities are still married, while others got the much-needed boot. We decided to track down all of the men who were caught canoodling with other men and we found 5 clear choices. Check out our list of 5 male celebrities caught in same-sex scandals!
Rumors that John Travolta cheats on his wife Kelly Preston with men on a somewhat regular basis have been floating around Hollywood for years. The Oscar-nominated actor has been accused of participating in gay sex in spas all over Los Angeles and one of his former lovers alleges that Travolta has admitted that he prefers men over women. In 2006, The National Enquirer published a damning picture of the “Grease” star embracing and kissing a man as the two were getting off of his private jet.
Casper Smart reportedly cheated on Jennifer Lopez with two transsexual models. With one of them, he allegedly only sexted, but he reportedly hooked up with the other one. Although he has denied the allegations, there seems to be a lot more to the story than what most people know. Back in 2012, one of Smart’s fellow dancers claimed that he was actually gay and just using Lopez for her fame and fortune. Judging by what these two transsexual models have publicly revealed, maybe there’s more truth to the story than Casper would like to admit!
Hank Baskett recently made headlines for reportedly cheating on Kendra Wilkinson with transsexual model, Ava Sabrina London. To make matters worse, he had the affair while his wife was eight months pregnant and he paid London $2,500 in total not to sell her story, which she went ahead and did anyway. Sources say that Wilkinson is done with the marriage and is more concerned about the kids and the finances at this point.
In 2012, Jessica Simpson’s parents’ Joe and Tina suddenly filed for divorce after 34 years of marriage. Rumor has it that he had been cheating on his lovely wife with an aspiring model who is over 30 years his junior, which prompted him to finally come out of the closet. Since the divorce, Joe has been spotted in the company of a different young gentleman who he claims is just a client; however, it looks like it might be a bit more than that.
In 1997, while his wife and children were away, Eddie Murphy was caught in a notorious West Hollywood hooker zone picking up a transsexual prostitute by the name of Atison Seiuli. The “Nutty Professor” star insisted that he was just doing the prostitute a favor; however, Seiuli has a very different story. According to him, before the police pulled them over, Murphy had given him two hundred dollars, had asked to see him in lingerie and wanted to know what type of sex he was into.

Sex between men has been recorded in almost every human society and at every stage in history. At some times and some places it is accepted; more often than not it is repressed or even denied. In certain cultures, homosexual behaviour may be condemned among adults but permitted as play between adolescent boys, or men may have discreet relationships with other men so long as they also marry and have children.
Studies confirm that boys and men across the world report sex with other boys and men, with rates of 10-16% in Peru, 5-13% in Brazil, 10-14% in the US, 15% in Botswana and 6-16% in Thailand. Some men may identify themselves as "homosexual" or "gay" (specific terms exist in almost all cultures) and have long-term or occasional sexual relationships with other men. Others may be married or in a long-term relationship with a woman and occasionally have sex with men, often without their female partner knowing. In yet other cases, sex may take place between men because they are the only sex partners available, as in the case of men in prison or in all-male institutions.
In many parts of the world men who have sex with men are frequently the target of prejudice and discrimination, even legal sanction. This social stigma has prevented many men and boys from admitting that they are at risk of contracting HIV from sex with other men and has prevented the development of HIV prevention campaigns directed at those men at risk. Negative social attitudes often lead to stress for men who see themselves as homosexual; an Australian study found that around 28% of young men who preferred sex with other men had attempted suicide, compared with under 8% of heterosexual young men.
Anal intercourse is often a component of sex between men and is practised by 30-80% of men according to surveys from various settings. Because of increased friction and the fragile tissues in the anus, anal intercourse involves a higher risk of HIV transmission than vaginal intercourse, particularly for the receptive partner. The consistent and correct use of condoms, properly lubricated, is thus crucial for HIV prevention.
Since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, community groups and other NGOs made up of men who have sex with men have engaged in prevention and care. In some countries, homosexual men started the first support organizations for people with AIDS, in the absence of action by governments and traditional NGOs. As one example, the Naz Foundation developed the first clinical services and outreach for men who have sex with men in New Delhi, India, offering education, information, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV testing and counselling, support groups for HIV-positive men and a telephone hotline.
Efforts by NGOs working with men who have sex with men have often been limited in scope and in some cases constrained by repressive legislation and discriminatory attitudes. Most receive little financial or political support from government -- constraints which must be tackled if countries are to mount more effective prevention of HIV transmission through sex between men.

Society is more accepting of same-sex marriage . But are public attitudes on broader gender and sexual identity issues changing as well?
British researchers hypothesized that yes, gender boundaries are expanding. To prove it, they talked to 40 straight male athletes aged 18 and 19, which the study labels the typical arbiters of masculinity, to see if they've ever cuddled and spooned with another man before. The researchers figured that, if gender norms are changing, more straight men will say they're okay with cuddling and spooning with another man.
the men said they were okay with man-on-man cuddling and spooning
What the researchers found was a bit surprising: the men said they were okay with man-on-man cuddling and spooning, and nearly 93 percent claimed to have done it before.
The study looked at three main topics: bed sharing, cuddling, and spooning.
"We have a bromance where we are very comfortable around each other"
Of the 40 men interviewed, 39 said they have shared a bed with another man at least once since attending university. The one remaining student said he didn't remember if he had before: "I might have been pissed [drunk]." But all 40 athletes explained that there was no stigma to sharing a bed with another man, even if the other man wasn't a particularly close friend.
Thirty-seven of 40 respondents also said they previously cuddled with another man.
"I feel comfortable with Connor and we spend a lot of time together," one respondent explained. "I happily rest my head on Connor's shoulder when lying on the couch or hold him in bed. But h
