Petro declared his intention to reform the pension system through the creation of the position of a public administrator for pension funds. This will enable Petro to mix both public and private money into a "mixed, complementary system."

According Petro, there's no pension system in Colombia. But, there are bank profits. So many have claimed that he will end any possibility of becoming president. Another issue that has caused controversy is that he has repeatedly promised that he would end oil extraction the day that he becomes president, which has created uncertainty for investors as well as the market in general. believe that Petro's proposal for Colombia to stop exploration for oil would result in an estimated loss of $4.3 billion.

Additionally, this proposal would establish an anti-oil front throughout the globe and across the region which shifts the focus of our economy away from fossil fuels. In this regard I'd like to invite Gabriel Boric the Chilean president and LuizInacio Lula Silva to be the Brazilian president.

Petro claimed that he talked to Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister of Spain regarding his idea.

His position on health issues is also controversial. He insists on ending EPS and replacing it by an preventive model of healthcare that "guarantees individual rights, not bankers' profits."

There were also questions raised about the legitimacy and independence of the Banco de la Republica.

Petro said that the Bank Board of Directors belonged to the Democratic Center and "What we would like is an independent Bank of the Republic (...) it seems crucial that the Board of Directors includes the participation of society members," the candidate stated during the debate.
