Guidelines for Designing an Insulated Dog House

Scores of pet owners keep their dogs indoors at night, and some for a part of the morning as well. However, there can be times where your dog may prefer to sleep out of the house. If you have a secure backyard, then having your dog run around should not be an issue. Keeping your puppy in your garage is not the most secure spot for your dog to be, because there are a lot of dangers that could be found by your pet, such as toxic substances and antifreeze, or you will have tools that might be knocked over without much trouble. Designing a good sized dog house that's insulated should be the safest spot for your dog to be, apart from your home, of course.

You will have to measure your pet upright. The ceiling should not be more than a couple inches taller than your puppy. If you have a puppy, then you ought to allow room for growth. The house length ought to be at least two times as long, and three fifths as wide in measurement to your puppy. If you plan on owning more dogs then you will need to make allowances for that too.

Draw a floor plan. The square should be separated into four parts, for your dog house. Number each of the sections, from each point. Each of the intersections must have an upright post. The dog house needs to have an exterior wall, in addition to an internal wall. The entrance should be in section four, next to section 3. This inside wall is going to protect your pet from the cold. If you have seen an igloo, then you have the right idea. These walls will have three sections: they will have 2 sides of plywood in addition to Styrofoam in between them.

Then you'll have to put together the floor frame. Make a square from the wood. Cut a shorter piece of wood to go through the center. Nail the frame. Then you will have to cut three fourths of a sheet of your outer plywood for the overall floor.

You will then have to measure the roof. The highest area needs to be at the front, and the lowest must be at the back.

Next, you'll need to cut out sections of plywood to fit into the box. Staple one of them to the inside of the exterior wall of the dog house. You will then need to nail the plywood on the interior and the exterior. Dependent upon the insulation that you use, you'll have to cut it accordingly to what the instructions say.

Cut the door out for your dog house. The base part of the entrance should be no less than 5inches off the actual floor. You'll need to nail molding to the door to stop the door from breaking apart. Make sure that there aren't any loose nails sticking through the door.

For the roof, you will have to cut 1/2 a sheet of plywood. It needs to be larger than the whole house. It should not lay level, but more like a slope. This frame will be like a frame inside a frame. Once it has been constructed put aluminum drip edges around the whole roof, and staple 2 layers of plastic sheeting, and then make sure that you staple tar paper, shingles, or any other roof materials. Follow further directions that are provided to you on the materials that you purchased.

Dog bed blanket 'll then have to paint your dog house-make sure that it is non toxic. Make certain that you place the house on a level surface, and according to the weather you might have to move it.
