Guide to Procuring Mid-Range Atlas Copco Diesel Compressors
Kourosh B
First, let's define what we're talking about. We call industrial air compressors with an air delivery rate of 11 to 23 cubic meters (with an operating pressure of 14 to 7 bar) "mid-range" or "Medium Air Compressors." If you need such a diesel compressor, be sure to read the following:
In the chart above, you can see 11 models of Atlas Copco mid-range and standard-pressure compressed air compressors. Their compressed air delivery range is between 300 and 800 CFM, equivalent to 8.5 to 22.65 cubic meters per minute, and operating pressure from 7 to 14 bar — standard pressure.
Since both the pressure and delivery rate required by the consumer of this medium industrial air compressor are considered moderate, all of these models have a single stage or air-oil separator element, and there was no need to equip them with two elements, whether in parallel or in series. Regardless of technical specifications, several points are important regarding these diesel compressors:
1. These compressors are produced in two types: equipped with the PACE system and without it.
This system allows pressure adjustment in increments of 0.1 bar. — Photo of the screw compressor controller

PACE stands for Pressure Adjustment through Cognitive Electronics and is known as the Atlas Copco XC2003 controller. These controllers allow the user to adjust pressure at intervals of one-tenth of a bar.

2. As we have said many times before, the Atlas Copco industrial air compressor has one advantage and only one clear advantage over all other screw compressed air compressor brands: ease of access and service.

The internal parts of Atlas Copco compressors, whether in stationary or portable models, are easily accessible from the side, and their service and repair are more ergonomic. This distinction will only become prominent when you perform service on Kaiser compressors or some other brands.
3. The diesel engines installed on these compressors are from various brands. The general belief is that Caterpillar, followed by Cummins and Deutz, are more reliable and longer-lasting engines; after them, John Deere can also be mentioned. However, it should be noted that this belief is a rule of thumb and engine differs from engine. Also, Kubota and MTU (Rolls-Royce engines) brands have made significant progress in recent years.
4. All of these compressors are equipped with a tow bar, road lighting system, wheel safety features, after-cooler, return valve and WSD, spark arrestor and internal shutdown valve, cold start, and safety cartridge, and it is possible to request Atlas Copco to paint them in different colors.
5. Atlas Copco diesel compressors are produced in optimal sizes for heavy operating conditions with easy service capability, and their engines are strategically selected. They are also equipped with an optimized and fuel-efficient fueling system. These are Atlas Copco's claims in introducing them.
