Guide For Flashing Encrypted Roms

Kunmun
  • Nowadays most of our roms start shipping with File Based Encryption (FBE) enabled by default.
  • For flashing such roms you need to format data partition if you come from a decrypted roms, else you will face a bootloop and get kicked to recovery.
  • First of all dont forget taking backup of internal storage.
  • For that, after flashing the rom go to Advanced Wipe Section > Format data > type Yes.
  • Roms like Pixel Experience will replace your recovery with AOSP recovery in order to get FBE properly working.
  • Also, TWRP UNOFFICIAL v3.5 by @rk585 is recommended.

NOTES:

  • There is no need of Formatting data if you are moving from encrypted rom to encrypted rom.
  • But you have to Format data if you are going from decrypted to encrypted or vice versa.

WHAT IF YOU DONT WANT TO ENCRYPT THE ROM AND FORMAT DATA:

  • Thanks to @ItsRyuujiX for bringing up a workaround for this.(Tested on Lineage OS and some other encrypted roms)
  • For doing this, Flash rom then flash his patch and boot.
  • Then no need of formatting data and your internal will be decrypted by default.
