Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Ma Robe Plissée New Fragrances
i love all the other notes
except for patchouli
somehow a lot of perfumers don't feel confident about their creation unless it contains patchouli without realising it can smell bad with global warming....
and no one wants to be left with a fragrance nightmare in the dry down when it started off as a wonderful dream....
Next Robe Noire could just be Black Jeans...
Emera1d, I could NOT agree. Parfum Initial was absolutely beautiful. So, of course, they discontinued it, and now it's harder to find - and pricier - that diamonds. But they WILL insist on sloshing this overdone, over-patchoulied mess on us.
Hey, you light bulbs at Guerlain. Even the best joke is tiresome the second time you hear it.
Next up La Petite Robe Noir Ankle Length, - Mini, - Maxi, -Tutu, -Skater, - Pencil, - A-Line, - Petticoat, - Empire, - Tunic,... and what other dress/skirt styles are there?
Still room for flankers for the next two decades I guess -.-
Oh God not another one! Can't believe they can keep getting them LPRN flankers out, but they couldn't keep Shalimar Parfum Initial. So very disappointed wont even bother looking for it in shops.
I love the idea of adding the apricot! Can't wait to try this. I still have a few from last year and the year before that I haven't been able to smell or buy. I wonder if a lot of these are country-specific?
Well this is such news "A new Robe Flanker" shocking. I get them confused.
Can they just put out one flanker that doesn't have patchouli in it? Sigh...
Gotta say I am curious still trying to a find flanker in this line that works for me.
This makes this edition number 352 flanker of the Petite Robe line. JUST STOP GUERLAIN!

Orange creamsicle with a spicy kick. A complete underrated gem. This perfume fills my soul and brings back cheerful memories. I place it in my top 10 perfumes of life. If you appreciate perfumes such as Flowerbomb, Angel, Lolita Lempicka, L de Lolita, Rose Jam, then you will surely enjoy this...
Tart, heavy citrus orange blossom over ambroxan, a subtle vanillic sweetness, and a powerful musk. There's a mild soapiness to it and a soft powdery iris blending everything together. Mature feminine scent. Moderately soft projection for ~2hr, longevity 8-10hr.
Smells very masculine to my nose. All woods and musk. I wish I could perceive the other notes.
Iris and blackcurrant play so nicely together. This is a bit mature and has prominent patchouli but somehow it still works for me! Need to test it on my skin next time.
After getting this from Scentbox, I realized the salt smell was much stronger than I'd like. Very unfortunate! Anyone want to trade?
It’s just… okay. I expected something more special from this, but it was just generic. It had a very quick blast of the original and then started smelling like Prada Luna Rossa Ocean, which is also nothing special. The iris in this is the more soapy kind. I was kind of hoping for the Armani Code...
A wispy, whimsical white floral ambroxan. That aquatic amberwoody smell with the uplifting scent of jasmine, a hint of sweet orange, and an underlying creamy sweetness from the vanilla and sandalwood. Moderately soft but consistent projection for 3-4hr, longevity 8-10hr.
I love this scent, but in about nine months of owning it I've worn it 1 (one) time in public. Therein lies the problem: Guilty Absolute doesn't function as perfume but as a piece of olfactory artistry. To wear it is akin to wearing a t-shirt with a Monet print on it. It's a tacky...
A gentle nutty sweetness, evocative of the eponymous praline accord, with a heaping dose of added raspberry candy. Slightly nutty and extremely sugary sweet, with the jasmine giving it an airy boost. Has a similar BR540, Burberry Her-esque vibe to it as For Your Love, but this one is way too...
Opens with a sweet blast of sticky plum and runny honey, and also a surprising freshness, which is very welcome and a citrus zing from the bergamot and grapefruit. A backbone of cedar and hazelnut carry the scent, and the amberwood gives extraordinary longevity. The vetiver gives a stylish edge...
I'm getting fruit-scented eraser. The ones that I used to beg my mom to buy me in elementary school. They smelled not like any certain fruit, but like "sweet purple", and that white creamy rubber. It's not unpleasant, and it actually gets a few bonus points for the nostalgia...
Powerful, dense musk cloud flavored with a powdery rose and, despite no citrus in the note breakdown, a soft pithy lemon to my nose. Has a little greenness, a faint woody backbone, and some mild animalic undertones. Linear and very consistent performance, with moderately strong projection for...
Totally smells like smoking wood more than anything else. Then you smell chestnut and heat, then vanilla and amber. I like fragrances that don't necessarily smell like perfume, so this one tickles me greatly. I traded Jazz Club, which I don't like, for this, and I'm definitely...
A relatively fresh take on the classic rose-oud-saffron combo, not dissimilar to its sibling Perfect Oud. A soft, faintly powdery rose uplifted by the camphorous oud accord, a slight leathery undertone, plus a noticeable green vegetal quality to it similar to patchouli. Strong projection fades...
Don't really smell anything to be honest, not enough to make out any note anyway.. Usually I love Cuba stuff
I have noticed that Fragrantica has now veered towards advertising rather than artistry and having a common goal of sharing our love for fragrances. I have been here long enough to notice the different changes that are happening both good and bad. Good is when we share passion and information...
I think their sales dropped recently.. not sure they've ever done very well in UK, not least because they insist on calling knickers 'panties' which is almost universally loathed & 'pants' is slang for something being rubbish - 'omg that's just pants'....
I adore Gold. I don't often love lily as a note. Of course there are so many types of lily that it really does depend on the one highlighted, but I love the lily (Casablanca?) used here. I never took note of him as a perfumer. The only other creations of his that I own are Velvet Orchid and...
Knowledge and competition of ideas (just like people buy Elon Musk’s cars without being pushed to do so) is the only way to change the world, not a forced morality to go green. What Elon’s stunt?
Thanks for the article. I'm familiar with the expression, "as above, so below," inside of astrology. In astrology, Elemi is ruled by Mercury/Hermes the Psychopomp, the god who is uniquely able to enter and leave the underworld of his own volition, among other marvels of course. A...
My Mom had the bottle with a stopper (pure perfume), and I remember at the time it was her signature fragrance in addition to Zeenat, which was a bit similar to Clea, but with overpowering oak moss accord. Unfortunately, back then it was not easy to order or find YR fragrances, and my Mom ended...
As a side note, I made a conscious decision to add "niche" to the title of the episode since it seems to be a term people feel strongly about. Usually, I really don't like using "niche" to describe anything because it seems to mean a lot more to other people than it does...
Great read, wondering what happened to them! I really love this house. I have the OG’s Perla and Cara which are beautiful. I will have to try the newest fragrance very soon.
Chergui de Lutens y L'heure bleu de Guerlain
Missed it, after looking at the site every day for weeks. Not paying $250 on eBay or Mercari. Oh well. Maybe next year. ETA added myself to the notification list in case the tonka version comes back in stock but am doubtful that Guerlain will make more available.
I hate to critique these types of articles, because not only are they interesting, they're fun to read and are very informative. First of all, I need to critique your use of the word "redolent". "Reminiscent of" or "akin to" would be more appropriate or commonly...
I second pacific rock moss but also will add sel de argent by BDK which I like even more than PRM…. The dry downs are very similar, but PRM has a bit more floral in the dry down and more citrus in the opening…. I much prefer the experience of SDA.
My first ever Amouage scent was Jubilation XXV, and I fell in love with it. Chong brought Amouage into the spotlight and made them a giant in the luxury fragrance game.
I love honey notes, despite the sticky sweetness of honey itself, I generally find the note a more subtle and complex base for gourmands than the typical sugar-esq sweetness of most things marketed to the teen and 20 something population (which, no judgement, I'm a fan of photorealistic...
I guess I'm a sentimentalist, but Annick Goutal - the brand - was quite dear to my heart. I purchased Gardenia Passion at her perfumery in Paris decades ago and fell in love. I have a few in my collection today, but I have to admit that the new bottles leave me cold. I understand how and why...
Your lovely essay made me eager to try L'Heure Bleue, which has quickly become one of my favorite fragrances. (And I'm a man in his late 60s.) And I love that the first Paris photo you posted is of one of my favorite corners in that city, right in front of the Café St-Régis, on the Île...
Despite of the tacky bottle and the ridiculous ad, the perfume notes sound promising.
Like rickyrebarco says; ´I hope to try the new parfum version in the 'regular' bottle for us plebeians´ I´d be more than happy. Don´t care for this ´Maisons d’art coffret´, I think it´s an ugly thing, that´s going to collect dust...
Did they reformulate this and remove all the bubblegum sweetness referred to in this initial impression? Because this smells just like a 1950’s soapy barbershop vetiver. It’s derivative, just not of Invictus. I’m 90% certain this scent was used in an old shaving cream.
