Griffin worked as an investigative reporter for CBS 2 News in Los Angeles for 10 years. He joined CNN in May 2004.

In September 2005, Griffin covered the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina . Griffin's reports about the looting by some New Orleans police officers led to a police investigation. He also broke stories about nursing home deaths after Katrina. [1]

Griffin won a business and financial reporting Emmy Awards in 2005 for his reports on a fault in Ford Motor Company vehicles which caused them to catch fire. He earned his second Emmy in 2006 for the CNN Presents documentary How to Rob a Bank and a third in 2007 for "Hidden Spending", an Anderson Cooper 360° segment about congressional spending. [1] He earned a Peabody award in 2015 for “Crisis at the VA”, a story that broke the scandals of hidden wait times and deaths at VA hospitals across the country. Drew Griffin is an American correspondent and investigative reporter. He works for the CNN investigative unit based in Atlanta. Drew started working for the network in May 2004 after resigning his role as an investigative reporter at CBS 2 News in Los Angeles. He worked for CBS 2 News for a period of 10 years.
Drew’s wide-ranging expertise includes covering sports, politics, corporate, as well as government investigations. Drew’s other recent investigations included the so-called “Super Pacs”, how medical residents cheat on the medical board certification tests for radiologists etc. In 2015, Drew was awarded a Peabody Award for his exclusive investigation report on delays at Veterans Affairs hospitals.
His investigation revealed that more than 19 military veterans had lost their lives as a result of appointment delays.
