Formula 1’s sexy “grid girls” are gone.
Race organizers have announced that the trackside models will not be part of the 2018 World Championship season beginning March 25.
Sean Bratches, managing director of operations, said that the longstanding F1 tradition poses a problem in this politically correct era.
“While the practice of employing Grid Girls has been a staple of Formula 1 Grands Prix for decades, we feel this custom does not resonate with our brand values and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms,” Bratches said.
“We don’t believe the practice is appropriate or relevant to Formula 1 and its fans, old and new, across the world,” he added.
Grid girls typically wear outfits adorned with sponsor logos. Their duties include holding umbrellas, flags and name-boards as drivers line up on the starting grid.
The BBC reports that “some races have begun to experiment with alternatives, such as using male models instead of female, or children as mascots.”

Do you ever sit back and silently ponder, I wonder Freelee the Banana Girl is up to?
Well we’re gonna tell you anyway, because she’s back at it again doing weird, carrot-based shit.
Freelee, real name Leanne Ratcliffe , first gained notoriety around a decade ago when she began vlogging about her raw food lifestyle.

She advocates an extreme, low processed, low-fat, high-carb raw vegan diet; one that included consuming 51 bananas in one day.
Despite having no relevant health qualifications, Freelee grew a certified organic fanbase of almost a million followers. Her YouTube videos have view counts in the millions, with pearlers like ‘ How & why I squat on the toilet (live demo) ‘, ‘ Time lapse of me eating a 1700cal bowl of pasta ‘ and ‘ How I lost my period on a RAW VEGAN Diet ‘.
The latest? Freelee has “abandoned” her old YouTube and Instagram accounts and has started afresh with the handle @freelee_official .
Her new Insta has only 6 posts sharing select snippets of her newfound freedom, which involves flashing her melons to unresponsive trees in a South American jungle:

She explained the change of pace in her first post, writing:
11 years ago I renamed myself Freelee during a waterfast because freedom is what I hold most sacred in life. Since then I’ve been shedding the layers that hold me back. I freed myself from the 9-5 slave drive and moved to the jungle. I spend most of my day nude; free of restrictive clothing.
The next five posts delve into her past issues, including battles with anorexia and cocaine addiction .
“I was sick of working my life away making someone else rich. Maybe the worst, I was bored. I wanted to be turned on and to FEEL something meaningful every day. That morning I decided to free myself from being a slave,” she wrote.
“There wasn’t any social media back then so I transitioned by becoming a personal trainer with my own business. Soon after I found veganism and my true passion in life. Don’t be afraid, you CAN create this too.”
It’s that simple! Each post is bookended by the hashtag #gofreeyourself, because solving your problems is as easy as running away to a remote country, taking off your clothes and posting about it on social media.

In fairness, there’s something to be said about realising that you’re unhappy in your life and making some changes.
But the reality is, going “off-grid” (while posting about it to the ‘gram via a steady internet connection) with your nips out in some far off country probably won’t solve your problems.
Follow her footsteps and you might end up with an enlightened state of mind; or a bull ant-bitten titty.
