Green Card Renewal Process
Is your green card expiring and you need to get a new one? Or did your green card already expired? Renewing your green card is quite simple. The good thing about green card is that once you get the green card it is for life. Meaning you never lose your residency status even if your card expires. The only time you lose your residency is if you were to violate any terms of the immigration.

In this article I will tell you the simple green card renewal process you need to follow to get your green card renewed:
Step 1: The first step is to get all your documents ready to apply for your green card renewal. You will generally need a copy of your old green card, residency proof and maybe some other documents.
Step 2: Once you have your documents ready, you will need to file the application to renew your green card. This petition is filed by filling the form I-90. You will also need to file the fees of $455 and maybe another $85 for the biometrics.
Step 3: Submit your application along with the documents. You can apply online or by mail. If you apply online you can pay using a credit card. If you file by mail you will need to add a money order or check to pay for it.
Step 4: You will next get an appointment to go and get your biometrics done.
This is it. Once you file your application, submit documents, pay the fees, and get biometrics done. Your part is over. Now you just have to wait for your new green card to arrive in mail. It can take anywhere between 1.5 to 12 months. You can track the status of your application status online and can apply for a travel permit if you need to travel before your new card arrives. You can also ask the UCICS to give you proof of residency if you are applying for a job and need to prove your residency.
