A New Jersey high- school teacher is facing prison time for her extra-curricular activities — having sexual relations with six students in school and her car, authorities said on Wednesday.
Nicole DuFault, a mother of two, was indicted by a grand jury on 40 counts of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child for alleged trysts with six 14- and 15-year-old boys.
She was with the students on “multiple occassions” throughout 2013 and 2014 at Columbia HS in Maplewood, where she taught for nine years, and in her car, according to Essex County prosecutors.
The 35-year-old teacher had “inappropriate sexual conversations in the classroom,” according to a complaint leveled by prosecutors last September.
Prosecutors said DuFault, who was axed from her job as a language-arts teacher, was caught on tape performing oral sex on one of her victims while another teenage boy was nearby.
Investigators found a piece of clothing DuFault was wearing in the video at her Maplewood home after authorities searched it last year.
The video evidence was used last September to squash an attempt by her lawyer, Timothy Smith, to reduce her bail from $500,000.
DuFault was able to raise the money in October.
Prosecutors also have statements from at least five of her alleged victims that they plan to use during the trial, according to the Daily Mail .
Smith said DuFault deserves to be “fully exonerated.”
“I feel confident in stating and firmly believe in my heart that there is only one victim, not six, and that victim is Nicole DuFault,” Smith told The Post.
DuFault had brain surgery prior to the incidents that resulted in her getting a shunt, a device that removes spinal fluid from her brain, Smith said.
“I believe that Ms. DeFault’s brain trauma and surgery, which rendered her particularly vulnerable to the students’ mentality, will factor significantly in the trial,” he said.
Since she was arrested, DuFault’s husband has left her, and both her little boys, ages 3 and 5, have been taken into state custody, according to CBS .
DuFault is due back in court March 6.
