An empire dress with 3/4 sleeves and a v-neck is a great dress for petites of any shape. It makes the whole body appear longer. Wear same color hoes and shoes or boots to continue the longer look all the way to the floor. A necklace in the same style as in the photo, draws the vision up and away from a large bust line. Stay away from large prints, they will only add weight to your small frame. And remember, buy petites only, because regular sizes will swallow you and make you look messy instead of gorgeous!

What is a petite? A petite is any adult 5'4" and shorter, woman or man. As you can see in the photo, the woman on the right has shorter legs, arms, torso, and across shoulders. These women cannot wear the same clothes, although petite women are sometimes forced to wear clothes that are too big on her. The sleeves reach to her knees, the shoulder hangs 3" off, the waistline is on the hips, the hip line is on the thighs, and the pants' waistline is riding too high, and she's walking on the hems. Does this all sound like you? Well it describes me too. It's hard to find petite clothes for petite women. Most of the time the petite clothes aren't really for petites at all, and they're most certainly aren't for curvy petites. If I was rich, I would start my own line of petite clothing for real petites that are real women.
What Curvy Petite Women Should Wear
Keep it simple, the shorter you are the more simple your clothes need to be, avoid lots of frills and flounces, details and pockets, they will all overwhelm your smaller, but curvy frame. Keep your outfits as free of detail as possible, use jewellery to add interest. Go for small patterns that don’t overwhelm, they can distract and draw attention up the body, keep to the top half of the body only. 3/4 sleeves will also draw the eye away f … rom the hips and make you look taller – this is a great optical illusion for anyone with shorter legs or curvier hips/thighs. Look for fluid fabrics that skim your curves and drape close body so you don’t add extra unnecessary width to your frame.
Dress head to toe in the same or similar colours to visually elongate and slim your body, creating one long and appealing vertical line. To distract from your bust so it’s not your focal point, wear larger scale necklaces to draw attention away from the bust and up to your face, have the necklaces sit at your 2nd balance point which is often just under the collar bones. Don’t wear high necklines as they’ll just make your bust look smaller. But if you have a large bust, a V-neck is best.
If your shoulders are narrower, wear gently puffed sleeves or wider collars to broaden them and distract from your bust and hips.
Keep your trousers free of pockets and cuffs, a straight, fuller leg that is the same width from the thighs to the hem is best if you have long legs. Boot cut pants are best if you have short legs. If you can stand them, wear heels and have your trousers hemmed just above the floor to add maximum length to your legs.
End jackets at the hip bone to draw the eye up and away from your thighs.
Skirts need to have some flare but end at the knee. A nude low vamp shoe is most flattering to elongate the length.
An A-line shirt is the best choice for petite women of any shape. But keep in mind it looks best above the knee or right below the knee, no longer. Wear hoes and shoes in the same color to make you look taller. If your legs are tanned, you can do as in the photo. Wearing beige shoes works great too. Pair this skirt with tall boots, pumps, or open toes heels. Wear an hip length top or jacket, does not look well with anything longer on petites.

Understanding your body shape is the key to great style and properly fitting fashion. And properly fitting fashion means choosing designs that fit and flatter your shape and proportions.
Let’s start by noting that there is no right or wrong in terms of body shape, there are just different types, and even within “types” there are infinite options for variation.
For fit and fashion there are eight general body types:
1. The Standard body type: upon which most clothes are styled, but few fit. 2. The Triangle: it’s all about the bottom line, curvy hips and derriere is what makes us sassy 3. The Inverted Triangle: playing up what mama gave us, with our voluptuous curves kept in the top draws. 4. Tubular: Kinda’ sporty, slim and trim. You probably worked hard to exercise those curves off. 5. The Rectangle: Nice and neat, everything lines up well. No real curviness in the waistline, but it’s so much easier to get pants that fit. 6. The Diamond: For most of us who have to work full time, run a family, run a home and run twenty other things at the same time, this is probably the reality…a little more curvy at the waistline.. 7. The Full Curve figure: otherwise known as Rubenesque…the best of everything women get passed down to them. For centuries women have been painted, naked in all their curvacious glory. 8. The hourglass: Curves, curves, curves.
