I kept hearing this show was excellent - so I was happy to see it come to Amazon Prime from Season 1. This show is entirely different than I expected, and really quite good. Interesting courtroom cases which always makes for a good show, but even better is the cast of characters who have all been fleshed out with complexity. This show also does a great job of introducing secondary characters - such as judges and opposing council - and bringing them back again and again which not only seems realistic, but also really adds to the entire world built by this show. The Good Wife gets almost everything right - sometimes shows like this build a lot of great supporting cast members but the actual main character is my least favorite (I'm looking at you "How I Met Your Mother" and "Gray's Anatomy") but here Alicia Florrick has a fairly unimpeachable moral center, she really is "The Good Wife" while also being very well rounded, totally sympathetic and completely likable. Her kids are also likable and still realistic. And really, the whole series is worth watching just for Elsbeth Tascioni who should get a spinoff.

This isn't the type of television moment like the Sopranos or Breaking Bad - instead it is comfort food television that goes down very easy but you are happy to find that it has a lot more nutritional value than these types of shows usually do.
I recently discovered The Good Wife and I'm so glad I did. It has been such a pleasure to watch the seasons unfold. I think S3 may be my favorite because it is at this point where Alicia really takes flight, taking personal risks that will reverberate through the rest of the series. She is a complicated character who doesn't always do the right thing.

In the first episode of the third season, we learn that Alicia has a rather significant secret. I love the way this plot line unfolds: while first it is just her secret, soon her boss figures it out, too, which has professional ramifications. Then her husband finds out and there are political consequences as well, which change the course of the second half of the season.

The writers know how to craft the three-ring approach where plot lines begin, develop, and end at different speeds, making every episode a mix of past and present and future. The main plot this season is a good example of that. While Alicia's secret is a culmination of the previous two seasons, it is also grounded in the present and will continue to affect the trajectory of her life. I love this kind of developed writing.

Overall, my favorite character is not Alicia but her boss Will Gardner, a likeable guy as far as lawyers go. I had previously seen Josh Charles in S3 of Masters of Sex and he did nothing for me. What a difference the right role can make! He is a dreamboat. I also appreciate Christine Baranski as Will's legal partner Diane Lockhart. These two have a flawed humanity that balances out some of the rest of the series. (The political characters, by contrast, I find loathesome, especially Chris Noth as Peter Florrick.)

I love this series. Highly recommended.
This is one of the best shows ever to hit the airways! It's about a group of high profile attorneys, but the main focus is on a States Attorney and his wife. He is caught in a sex scandal that forces his wife to question her commitment to their marriage. They have two teenage children, who's also inadvertenly caught up in the drama of this. Also, two mother-in laws who grace us with their presence. One, who is quite nosey and competative with the States Attorney's wife, and the other who is completely carefree, but has outrageous notions and antics about how children should be raised. Neither of which the teenagers mother approves of but puts up with. In addition, it's about a high profile law firm called Lockhart/Gardner, the firm where the States Attorney's wife work. And how her life is intertwined with different individuals who also work for this firm, including how she becomes involved with one of the partners. All this among cases that Lockhart/Gardner must bring to trial. Juicy stuff. I highly recommend this show to anyone!
The Good Wife is one of my all time favorite shows. It rarely has wild crazy scenes, but it does have lots of twists and turns that I find riveting. And the court cases are often, not always, very interesting. Alicia, the main character, is wonderful and is developing over the seasons: usually even keeled but every now and then, she sticks it to someone in the courtroom or even better, outside, and you cheer! Passionate Eli Gold is always good for a tantrum or two: love that character! And Jackie, the mother-in-law, is so consistently infuriating that you gotta love her too. Even the kids are well developed characters with 2 very good actors. Kalinda Sharma is definitely complex, hidden, and just plain scary because she is fierce and willing to do pretty much anything to get the job done. Chris Noth as "the bad husband" Peter, is always good to look at and is a true politician who is a true fighter who deeply loves his family. Most of the characters are so deeply flawed in so many ways, but almost all of them make me root for them at some point, and for me, that makes for a great show!
The third season is great. The plot lines are interesting, the characters are interesting, and the overall production is well done. Since the underlying program is about lawyers and the law, if you aren't interested in those things, you probably won't find this series to your liking. I would recommend the third season as worthwhile viewing, but if you are just starting to watch this series, I would strongly recommend that you start watching from the beginning of season one - if you don't, you won't know who some of the characters are and you won't know what the plot lines are talking about.
I love this series. It gives a different perspective on the legal system. We get to see more than just the legal back-and-forth between prosecution and defense; we get to see how home life affects legal life and more.

I don't know how many families there are where husband and wife are on opposite sides of the legal fence. I would imagine that most people who read these reviews already know that Alicia Florrick is a defense lawyer while her husband is State District Attorney for Chicago (Cook County). I saw most of these episodes when they were first run, and I'm thoroughly enjoying watching these the second time around.

I highly recommend every season of The Good Wife.
"The Good Wife" series was so GOOD, I practically inhaled all 7 seasons in the matter of 2 weeks. I would recommend everybody to watch it, especially NOW in this 2016 election year. Without taking any sides this series shows, and I believe, how many lawful and political things get done. People who don't care to watch anything political or about lawyers don't be doubtful, you will fall in love with this one and change your mind. Not one episode was boring to watch like some other shows that starts interesting and then wound down, NOT THIS ONE !!!
I don't quite know why I enjoy it. The characters are interesting, well-drawn, not clichés, and the topics taken up in the legal cases topical and sometimes unusual, e.g. the one about the eruv. The continuing story line of Alicia's relationship with her husband and her boss keep us involved. Alan Cumming has found the perfect role for himself.
