Go Topless Day 2020 is on August 23, and it will be different this year. Because of the pandemic, there are chances that most of the organisers would cancel the parades, but you can still participate in the topless freedom movement, by looking at some of the most powerful photos of women, baring their chest in public. Go Topless Day 2020 coincides with Women’s Equality Day in the United States of America. On this day, women and men from all walks of life come together to celebrate topless freedom laws and also protests against those US states where topless women are prohibited. The event was first observed in 2007, and over the time, the participation has only increased. Hence, to honour Go Topless Day previous editions, we bring some of the most powerful photos that show topless women, participating in rallies and parades.

Go Topless, a Nevada group formed by Claude Vorilhon, leader of the Raelian Movement, a UFO religion founded the revolutionary day, in response to the arrest of Phoenix Feeley (Jill Coccaro), an activist, who was detained for being topless in public in New York, in 2005. Ever since, women come together, every year, on the Sunday, approaching to Women’s Equality Day date (August 26) and go topless in public, on gender equality grounds. It should be noted here that Go Topless Day is significantly observed in the US. According to Go Topless organisation, women are legally allowed to go topless in many US states; again, there are nearly a dozen states, still ambiguous about the matter.

DOZENS of women went topless for New York City's annual Dyke March despite Covid restrictions.
The lesbian pride celebration, in its 29th year running, ended in celebration where groups of women splashed in the Washington Square Park fountain.
The event was brought back for the first time since the pandemic in March 2020.
Organizers described the event as a "protest march, not a parade" and a celebration of "beautiful and diverse Dyke lives", the New York Post reported.
Before 1992, going topless in New York was illegal but was made legal after a Court of Appeals reversed the ban - stating the nudity could not be used for commercial purposes.
The event's Facebook group encouraged "bisexual dykes, pansexual dykes, trans dykes, femme dykes, dykes who are unsure if they are dykes, dykes who will scream that they are dykes from the rooftops" to attend the march which had the theme "Black Dyke Power".
Later on Saturday evening, demonstrators partied at Washington Square Park breaking a midnight curfew and dancing into Sunday morning.
A source from NYPD told the DailyMail.com that while the midnight curfew was in place at the time, the force will not be cracking down on revelers until after Pride weekend ends.
Meanwhile on Sunday night cops reportedly arrested multiple people celebrating Pride.
Videos posted to social media showed large groups of law enforcement surrounding Pride attendees in Washington Square Park before a clash reportedly broke out.
Footage posted on Twitter also claimed that pepper spray was being used against the revelers.
At least three people were arrested as revelers and cops clashed in New York City.
One witness told the New York Post that four people were sprayed while lying on the ground.
“They were just on the floor,” the woman said. “I saw people on the floor rubbing their eyes.”
She claimed those involved “were marching and enjoying Pride, nothing else.”
The NYPD said it had no reports of pepper spray being used on the crowds.
The clash came after the New York City Pride parade banned uniformed police officers from taking part.
The Gay Officers' Action League (GOAL), the LGBTQ+ organization of NYPD officers, would not be allowed to participate, Heritage of Pride, the organizing body of NYC Pride , announced in May.
It also announced that there would be a five-year ban on the NYPD's involvement in the march.
The NYPD would be present in a limited capacity but a private security firm would take the lead.

Venice Beach was flooded with topless women—and men with cameras—on Sunday as protesters came together for Go Topless Day 2016 . The goal of the gathering was to shed light on the double-standard of how female and male nipples are perceived in the public. It's currently illegal in Los Angeles for women to go topless, but nipple gender equality advocates argue that the distinction is arbitrary and antiquated. This wasn't your typical activism rally though, women and men from all walks of life came together to bear their chests (as legally as possible) and spread the good word with an upbeat message of equality.
