Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, it captures the familiar — and unspoken — tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. Beautiful, subversive, and pants-wettingly funny, Go the F**k to Sleep is a book for parents new, old, and expectant. You probably should not play this for your children. “A children’s book for grown-ups! I really did laugh out loud—hilarious!” –David Byrne, musician, father of one “Finally, someone tells it like it really is. This is no-guilt funny and a godsend!” –Cristina García, author of The Lady Matador’s Hotel, mother of one “This is the most honest children’s book ever written. F**king hilarious.” –A.J. Jacobs, author of The Year of Living Biblically, father of three “Go the F**k to Sleep is the secret anthem of tired parents everywhere.” –Bliss Broyard, author of One Drop: My Father’s Hidden Life, mother of two “Captures the beautiful struggle of being a parent at its rawest point: bedtime.” –Daniel Sinker, author of The F***ing Epic Twitter Quest of @MayorEmanuel, father of one
Adam Mansbach's novels include The End of the Jews, winner of the California Book Award, and the best-selling Angry Black White Boy, a San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of 2005. His fiction and essays have appeared in the New York Times Book Review, the Believer, Granta, the Los Angeles Times, and many other publications. He is the 2010-2011 New Voices Professor of Fiction at Rutgers University. His daughter, Vivien, is three.

I remember when daughter was born back in 1979. She wouldn't sleep. She cried while I walked her around carrying her. I didn't know she had colic. We didn't gave a microwave back in 1979. We didn't have a lot of things back then. I didn't gave access to a car to drive around so I walked around and carried her. We did have cards so while I rocked her sitting down u could play one handed. Thank you for writing such an amusing book. It wasn't funny then but it is now. And now that I woke husband up by laughing so hard and loud, I have to show him the book.

I loved this honest gem of funny roll over and giggle humor..Since parenting and aunting and grand-parenting is adults only ..I figure once you have tiny screaming meanies and teethers you really get this book. Or you have raised other's tiny squaulers; and know it is a fact it seems an eternity until they find the umpteenth reason not to settle down and go to sleep. I put it on my laptop free ! If my son and my wonderful daughter are not out like a light; I figure I will share it on their next Amazon wish list. Probably paperback; less expensive.. I am not a prude; I got a charge out of this because it is for weary adult ornery overgrown kids!

A modern day classic that really understands the pressures and sacrifices of being a new parent

This book is hilarious and was an instant hit with the crowd during a baby shower. I love this book and plan to purchase it for every one of my friends as they start expanding their family.

This book is obviously not to be read to your kids, it's funny for the parents of small children. Best read aloud in mixed company or at family gatherings... or as a gag gift to uptight in-laws.

This is my go-to gift for new parents. Let their family get the impacticals (fancy clothes kids will wear once) and practicals (diapers and wipes and....) and get the parents something they'll enjoy for years.

I had to order additional copies for family members, and they enjoyed it just as much as I did! What a great book! True and accurate! I will be purchasing this book for all expectant family members from here on!

How could I not? This book is super awesome and got lots of reactions at the baby shower. Soon to be a timeless classic

Great gift for new parents

I bought this for my sister who is the proud owner of 9 month old twins. The twins don't yet understand what curse words are, so this book is perfect for keeping my sister sane while trying to get the little darlings to actually go to the land of nod, preferably at the same time and for the same length of time. As it was her choice to have babies and not mine, I can't vouch for how successful this book is in actually getting said babies to go to sleep, since bedtime chores are her domain, and my role as auntie is to enjoy singing songs and playing with them; handing back at the first sign of tears or nappy filling. However, it was worth buying this as a gift just to see my sisters little face on opening it, and to hear her laugh in a slightly strained way, and to see her eyes fill with something like hope at the prospect that this might actually work.

Works wonders on my 1 month old son and 34 year old husband.

Not only does this wonderful little book send me 1 month off to sleep, it works wonders on my 34 year old husband too. When I need some peace and quiet go catch up on the washing or to just generally have some alone time. I read both of my darling boys this book and off they pop into a deep slumber. Wouldn’t recommend for a child that repeats your words, otherwise you’ll probably be getting a letter from school asking why your child is telling kids to “Go the F*** to sleep” at nap time.

NOT A CHILDRENS BOOK

Hilarious if you don't mind bad language! Bought for my Stepbrother and sister in law who's baby was not sleeping at all and they saw the funny side. I think it may have cheered them up a little bit. They then showed my Dad who thought it was hilarious too! Not suitable for anyone who is easily offended!

Sleep is the cousin of death so dont make me send you on a family vacation

Surprisingly none of the children could actually read so the concern for the swearing was unwarranted, also they did not appreciate the moral of the story in fact they stayed up to listen to the whole bloody thing and asked for an encore

Perfect Gift for Parents

Bought this for my partner as part of a little inside joke. Our son was/is a complete nightmare at night time and would protest like a madman in a jail cell for hours! Leaving me and my partner feeling like we were going insane. He laughed so hard on Fathers day when I gave this to him and switched on Samuel L Jacksons Version on Youtube. It is a silly book, but if you have a mini dictator of a child like ours, you kinda need to find a way to cope. Even if it is with silly little books! As the saying goes " If you don't laugh, you'll cry".

The #1 New York Times Bestseller: “A hilarious take on that age-old problem: getting the beloved child to go to sleep” (NPR). “Hell no, you can’t go to the bathroom. You know where you can go? The f**k to sleep.” Go the Fuck to Sleep is a book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, it captures the familiar—and unspoken—tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. Read by a host of celebrities, from Samuel L. Jackson to Jennifer Garner, this subversively funny bestselling storybook will not actually put your kids to sleep, but it will leave you laughing so hard you won’t care.
