Most people know that a woman's cervix dilates to 10 centimeters before she is supposed to start pushing during childbirth.
An image that's going viral on social media illustrates just how big ten centimeters of dilation really is, offering broader understanding of what mothers go through during labor.

Props to moms: Steffanie Christi'an, a singer and songwriter from Detroit, Michigan, seems to have been the first to post the photo on April 9
The image shows a circular wooden board with ten circles carved out of it. Each one is numbered, one through ten, indicating how many centimeters in diameter the hole is.
The tenth circle, which is 10 centimeters across, is quite large, and a baby's head is seen behind it.
That ten centimeters is how big a woman's cervix measures across before doctors and nurses encourage her to start pushing during childbirth.
The cervix is at the very top of the vagina, several inches inside a woman, and separates the vagina from the uterus, where the baby is.
Further, 10 cm. is the pushing point, not the final measurement. The cervix can continue to expand to accommodate a newborn's head, which might be slightly larger.
Steffanie Christi'an, a singer and songwriter from Detroit, Michigan, seems to have been the first to post the photo on April 9.

'This is what 10cm of dilation looks like. This is why we deserve all the things,' she wrote in a post that's been shared 165,000 times.
It was then shared on Twitter by Ngoako Lerato Mannya of Johannesburg, South Africa, where it's earned 53,000 likes and lots of comments.
'My mom pushed all 3 of us out. I need to thank her again, especially for my big headed little brother,' wrote one woman.
'Hello birth control,' wrote another.
Similar charts showing dilation sizes exist on the internet, though this one seems to have struck a nerve with people.

Jessica Alves has revealed she looks at her new 'self-lubricating' vagina 'all the time' after undergoing sex reassignment surgery five days ago.
The media personality, 37, appeared on Monday's episode of This Morning and surprised hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby when she greeted them in Thai and bowed her head.
Jessica, who had her surgery in Bangkok, said: 'The surgery I had is called sex reassignment surgery. It's almost identical to a biological vagina.

'The aesthetics of my vagina is exactly the same as a biological vagina, I look at it all the time.
'In three months time, it will behave like a biological vagina. It's elastic, it self-lubricates.'
Jessica, who was previously known as Rodrigo, almost became emotional during the interview as she told how her life can finally begin after her surgery.
She said: 'I promised myself I was not going to cry. My life will start now. I'm going to continue doing television shows.
'I've done more than 400 television shows as a man and will continue as a woman.'
Previously known as the Human Ken Doll, Jessica admitted she kept having numerous cosmetic surgery procedures because she was not happy living as a man.

Under the knife: Jessica, who had her surgery in Bangkok, said: 'The surgery I had is called sex reassignment surgery. It's almost identical to a biological vagina'
She said: 'I kept having plastic surgeries in order to find myself when in reality I was always a transgender woman. I couldn't transition at the time. I was afraid, I didn't know how to start.
'I also had a lot of television jobs in different countries and what they wanted was Rodrigo. Then I found ways to live with Jessica who was inside me. I became a cross dresser in secret.
'I would wear a wig and a pair of high heels and sit on my sofa and watch a film. It was escapism. I was living as a cross dresser in secret for four years. Then I had my ribs removed and had surgery to make me look more feminine.
'I started having depression and had my psychological assessment and was diagnosed with gender dysphoria. I started my transition process in September 2019 and I feel emotional right now to say I have finished.'

Having spent more than £700,000 on cosmetic surgery, Jessica is still not finished going under the knife.
She said: 'I have to do two more surgeries. I'm not happy with my breasts, I have to change my implants and a few other things. There's one thing I want to say, being a woman feels amazing.'
Jessica plans to continue with her television career but admitted she lost work in some countries when she revealed she is transgender.
She said: 'There are people who have to be on a waiting list for three years before seeing a specialist. Once I decided to transition, I had contract jobs in Russia, no one wanted me anymore.'

Jessica was also asked about her love life by Holly and Phil, but played coy, saying: 'I have been so busy mentally, preparing myself for this surgery. It's a new beginning, a new life. I'm open to suggestions and opportunities.'
It comes after Jessica admitted she avoided relationships with gay men while she was a man and that she hopes to lose her 'virginity' to someone 'special' now that she has transitioned into a woman.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, just five days after undergoing a six-hour Penile-Peritoneal Vaginoplasty, Jessica opened up about the 'lonely' experience of struggling with her identity.
'When I stared my transition after my trip to Thailand in 2019 a lot of people thought that it was a press stunt simply because a lot people didn't take me seriously,' she said.
'People just assumed that i was a plastic surgery addict when, in fact, I was trying to find myself and who I really was!'

Of past romantic or intimate experiences, Jessica went on: 'I have never had a relationship with a gay man because my brain has always been female. I remember when I was growing up I used to wear my mothers clothing and dance around the house and that was when I was happy.
'I am still healing but I already have a vagina and she is perfect. Dr Kamol at Kamol hospital has a catalogue of his work. I am 37-years-old and I chose a vagina that looks young - the equivalent of an 18-year-old's.
'My vagina will function the same as a biological vagina and in three months from now I will be able to lose my virginity and to have intercourse.'
Of the prospect of this, she added: 'The issue is that I don't have anyone on my radar yet. I want that day to be magical and special even, so if I have to wait longer for it I will do so until the right man for my me comes along.'

Jessica underwent the procedure on February 17 and said she is recovering well and feeling comfortable.
She told MailOnline that her family have been incredibly supportive of her decision to get surgery - which cost her £13,700.
But she admits that not everyone has been so accepting of her decision.
'I lost most of the people that I assumed were my friends. They could not cope with the changes,' she regretfully revealed. '2020 was a very lonely year with Covid restrictions - but I was able to have my feminisation surgeries and do my hormone therapy all privately as the waiting list on the NHS to have the first assessment is three years so I could not rely on it.'
