I should have read the entire description more thoroughly I guess. This is not the first season as I had hoped. It's just a handful of random episodes pulled from the extremely lengthy series. I loved the series and recently was able to binge all 692 episodes! I was sad to see them slowly disappear and immediately searched for a way to see it again. (PCBH really needs to be watched more than once to see everything. The series loved to bring actors back in new roles!) With most being non USA format, I was excited to see this and the 2nd set. I was happy to see Set 1 has different episodes. Set One included 3 DVDS with 12 episodes. #1 has Episodes 166, 287 (The Freak arrives), 327, 400 (Goodbye Bea) #2 has Episodes 536, 550, 551, 552. #3 has Episodes 600, 601, 691, 692 There are fandom sites that can give you the description of each. It's not the entire series, but it is a good way to get your dose of the Wentworth gang. Hopefully one day, they will release a complete set again (one available for in the Unites States).

A very cool collection of Prisoner programmes. Prisoner if you don't know it was a story of a Women's prison set in Australia. Every prison has to have a top dog and this one could be very cool. Each episode some women's tale got told as well as the dreariness of prison life was told extremely well. But don't stop there because the guards story got told too. And they could be very interesting and the boundaries between legal action and tricky behaviour could get very blurred at times. Will the real convict stand up please? Sometimes the real convict was on the wrong side of the fence. A must see...loved it!

This DVD is wonderful,if You "know" the show,and most of the characters. When it was in syndication here in the USA,it was wonderful,only it was cut to half an hour,from it's original One Hour episode. I love seeing this show once again,if only for the "characters",and the goings on at "Wentworth" Prison. However,this was a weekly "soap opera" in Australia. When I saw it,it was already three years old in syndication. Okay...now I get the DVD,and only a "few" of the characters I knew from watching over here are on this DVD. After "the mine cave in" episode,which is where our local affiliate chose to pull the plug here in the States,I was lost. I did'nt know most of the characters after that,as the episodes "jumped" ahead a few years,leaving me clueless. Patsy King,as Erica Davidson had left,and there was a"new" Governor" at Wentworth",and Elspeth Ballantyne as Meg Morris,a Warden was still there,but again,it was a soap opera. Episodes very disjointed,and left me hanging. BUT,FOR ME,it was indeed a walk down Memory Lane. If for any other reason,I watch it for the memories. I truly loved the show. I now have the second set DVD of the show,which gives us a little more of early "Prisoner",and Counterbalances the whole shabang. Although,truthfully,You as the buyer NEED BOTH sets to do it justice. I think "Americans,as well as Canadians bought these just to see "The girls" in action again. For that much,I am grateful. I got to see the "First",and the "last" episode,in these two sets. That's really all I need. I have my fix forever now of Prisoner:Cellblock H. FYI..Please don't buy a "soap opera" without all the episodes.You are sure to miss something!!!!!!!!!! The show ran almost 8 Years. Rest In Peace Lizzie Birdsworth,wherever You have that booze hid,and say Hello to "Mum" from all of us diehard fans!!

I was so excited to buy this series - I had been totally hooked on it in the early 80's in Southern California. I should have paid heed though to one of the earlier reviews that mentioned it was difficult to enjoy disconnected episodes. The DVD is great - the episodes were great. BUT, only getting to watch one episode with no follow-up left me very dissatisfied. I would much rather they put the show out season by season. I'm actually sorry I bought this DVD......

This three dvd disc set is a great introduction to the show, I just hope that they continue to make more episodes available for us to buy! Would love to see it come out in seasons (or broken down into even three disk sets.) On the first disc are the early years of the show - they picked some great episodes to spotlight the beginning of the series. All the classic characters are there, including the introduction of Joan "The Freak" Ferguson. The second disc has a rare treat starting with a flash back of all the more interesting moments in the history of prisoner cell block h, besides getting to see everyone again - it helps tie up the major story arcs for all the main characters. The third disc is how the show ended, and it was a great ending! If you have not seen it this set is worth seeing the end alone. If you are a fan of prisoner cell block H this is a must have. If you are new to the show you are sure to enjoy this rare glimpse into the Australian Prison. My only problem is after seeing these I want more.

Great to see all my favorite characters in action in the "best of" set on my favorite all women's detention center. This "soap opera" from Australia in the 1970s, love those accents, is so much fun. Dvds play in USA machines. I wish they would release all 8 years of this series, I 'd love to see all the episodes I missed.

Australian television was considerably brightened by the arrival of PRISONER CELL BLOCK H in 1979. Although the activities in a women's prison might sound like grim subject matter, the show carried a neat dose of kitsch value, thanks to some poorly constructed sets, and storylines which were often unfathomable. But this was coupled with an innovative--and daring for the time--use of lesbian characters, violence, and drug mishaps. Presented here are some of the best episodes from the show, beginning with four installments from the early days, which helped establish some of the key characters. Secondly, a major plot development is ushered in via a terrorist siege that took place in the prison, and finally the conclusion of the show is rendered in dramatic style, with a huge riot breaking out. Fun and dramatic in equal measures, PRISONER CELL BLOCK H attracts a hardcore legion of devotees who will doubtless be delighted with this 25th anniversary celebration of the show.
Prisoner: Cell Block H , a drama set in a women's prison called Wentworth Detention Centre, ran for eight seasons on Australian television, from 1979 to 1986, resulting in an astonishing 692 hourlong episodes. Among these were 12 choice segments included in this DVD sampler set, selected to give a strong impression of the series' accomplishments and many changes over passing years. During its run, the show was also a big hit in the United Kingdom and, for a time, had a cult following in America. U.S. fans didn't get to see much of the ratcheted-up intensity, darker characters, and added violence that evolved during Prisoner 's middle years and beyond. Now that's possible with this anthology.
Curious newcomers, too, will find much to discover in the 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition . Prisoner concerns the lives and dramas of sundry inmates, guards, and prison officials at Wentworth. The earliest episode here, from season 3, serves as a useful introduction to the program's cast and tone.
